"Do you think my skin’s too pale?" Thane questioned, his gaze pointed at the bathroom mirror he had Gilbert hold out to him.

Gilbert huffed, "I don’t think Mrs Grayson will care about that."

Thane kissed his teeth. "She has to see me looking my best." He insisted.

As a joke, Gilbert offered, "There’s still time, I can drive out and buy you some makeup."

Little did he expect his employer to contemplate the idea. "Would that really work?"

Fortunately, Hannah texted him that they were on the elevator, heading their way. He kept the mirror back in the bathroom, where he noticed the cabinet was already stocked up.

"Master Grayson, are you certain about being admitted? You’ve always preferred home admission." Gilbert brought up, stepping out of the bathroom.

Reclining into his bed, he sighed, "Maverick talked me into it, convinced me that I could be cleared quicker, seeing as our trip back is in less than a week."

Gilbert nodded, understanding the motive behind his agreeing, however, he was left unsettled. "What about..." he left his sentence hanging.

An all knowing look glimmered in Thane’s eyes, "I-" His words were cut short by the scent of his cologne, wafting through the air.

Thane’s eyes lit up, when Hannah pushed the door open, allowing Brooke wheel into the room.

"Mrs Grayson." Gilbert greeted.

Brooke smiled at him, "Gilbert, Hannah and I stopped to buy you some dinner, we figured you might not have had any."

He looked behind her at Hannah, who had her gaze pointed to the ceiling.

"Thank you, Mrs Grayson."

Hannah faked a cough, "It’s dinner for the both of us, and it’s in the car. Downstairs. Outside."

Gilbert nodded, "Ah, yes, I am famished, Master Grayson, I’ll be taking my leave now, please call me if you need anything." He said, picking up Hannah’s hint.

Thane nodded, going along with their obvious scheme. "Eat to your fill."

"Hannah wait-" Brooke called out to her, but she had already walked out the door, leaving her alone with her husband.

"How are you?" Thane asked, "Have you eaten anything yet?"

"I ate with Hannah on our way here." She replied, keeping a civil distance from the hospital bed.

"What about you, have you eaten anything?" she asked, curling her hair around her finger.

His eyes fixed on her lips, he said, "I haven’t tried what I’ve been craving for a while now."

Brooke’s tongue licked her lower lip involuntarily. When she realized what she had done, she dry coughed and wiped with the back of her palm. "I think I’ll go wait outside with Hannah..."

"I’m sleeping over." He informed her all of a sudden.

Brooke’s ears stood, "You’re not coming back tonight?" her heart sunk. She wheeled over to the bed and reached for his wrist, examining his hand.

"Has your condition worsened?" she raised her head, examining his face.

Thane withdrew his hand and playfully flicked her forehead.

"Ouch-"

"You finally looked at me." He stated, making Brooke’s cheeks burn from embarrassment, she tried to wheel away, but he held her by the wrist.

"And where is my wife running off to?"

Brooke looked away, too embarrassed to face him, "Just for a stroll, for some fresh air."

"Are you sure you’re not running away?" he teased.

She puffed, "Mr Grayson, you act like a child sometimes."

"Mrs Grayson, you’re too evasive." He retorted.

"I’m being serious." She retracted her hand, and faced him, "Don’t you think all of this is moving too fast?"

Thane sensed that she had been feeling bothered about something, and guessed a couple of things, including this scenario.

He let out a sigh and sat up straight, finally ready for ’the talk’ he had been avoiding.

"Do you want to take things at a slower pace?"

Brooke bit her lower lip. She didn’t know what it was that felt wrong with their relationship. She could feel there was some void that she doubted anything could fill.

"I don’t know what we are to begin with. You say you want me to love you, but I don’t really know what that means. All this was supposed to be for revenge, so I get confused and don’t know if I’m getting my hopes too high..." she took a pause, realizing she was putting herself out there, again, for someone else.

"I’m sorry. You’re in the hospital, and I’m here making this all about me." She slapped her forehead, "How selfish, right?" She forced a laugh, but Thane did not relax his expression.

Her stomach churned, she wished she could rewind time and stop herself from making a complete fool out of herself in front of him.

For a half minute, Thane didn’t say anything, which made Brooke nervous. She searched her mind for another conversation to filter the air, only for Thane to finally say something.

"Brooke, do you like me?" he inquired.

"Like you? What do you mean by that? I thought this was about you-"

Thane inserted, "You confuse me too. Sometimes you act like you have the same feelings, but other times you become completely oblivious that I start to question myself. So I want to know, to hear it directly from you, do you like me?"

Brooke sighed, "You’re turning the conversation on me. I asked first."

Thane argued, "I know my answer, and you know it too."

Brooke folded her arms, "What if I don’t know? Maybe, I need to hear it from you too. So I don’t put myself out there and get hurt again."

Thane slid his legs off the bed and leaned in close, "My answer, doesn’t come in words." His hand fell to her cheek, giving it a gentle caress.

Brooke closed her eyes, welcoming the heat from his palm transferring to her face, causing her face to flush red.

His voice a still whisper, asked, "Do you still want to know?" his fingers glided to her lips, gently rubbing them, before prying them apart.

Brooke nodded and opened her eyes, a fiery look in them. "Yes." She moaned and closed her eyes.

Thane snaked his fingers to the back of her head and tipped her closer, until their lips met in a kiss...
