Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 98: Inviting a Wolf Into the House
Vivienne Jordan suddenly realized she had misspoken and immediately shut her mouth.
But Jessica Vance was relentless.
"What did you mean by what you just said? Isaac Vaughn using Natalie Kendall?"
"No, you heard wrong."
"You clearly just said..."
"We’re here!" Vivienne Jordan slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a halt. "We’re at your place."
Jessica Vance looked out the car window.
This was Janton’s famous wealthy district. Everyone residing here was of significant wealth.
But to her, this place felt more like a den that devoured her flesh and blood.
She unbuckled her seatbelt and pushed open the car door.
Vivienne Jordan hesitated before speaking: "Why don’t you get a divorce?"
"He treats you like this, and you still endure it?"
Jessica Vance gritted her teeth, unable to control her low growl: "What do you know!"
She turned back to glare at Vivienne Jordan: "Do you think it’s because I don’t want a divorce that I’m not getting one?"
To put it bluntly, her parents had practically sold her off.
If she really got a divorce, she couldn’t return to her parents’ home. What would she do then?
"I’m sorry." Vivienne Jordan noticed Jessica Vance’s emotions were intense, guessing she must have her reasons, and realized she had misspoken.
Jessica Vance got out of the car and walked towards her front door.
Vivienne Jordan started the car, about to leave, when she saw her suddenly turn back and walk over to the driver’s side.
Vivienne Jordan rolled down the car window.
"What’s wrong?"
Jessica Vance said, "Thank you for today."
"Oh, no need to thank me."
"Leave me your contact info."
——
The night was as dark as ink.
Isaac Vaughn was on the small balcony attached to the bedroom smoking a cigarette. After the smell dissipated mostly, he went back inside.
Natalie Kendall was taking a bath, and her phone on the bedside table chimed.
Isaac Vaughn glanced casually at it, the notification window on the screen showing an unread message:
[The task is done, please settle the final payment.]
Natalie Kendall came out.
Isaac Vaughn took the towel from her hand, letting her sit on the bed, then he sat behind her to dry her hair.
Once it was half-dry, he went to the bathroom to get a hairdryer and continued drying her hair.
His long fingers gently threaded through her hair, giving a massage effect.
Natalie Kendall squinted comfortably, dozing off with the warm breeze.
Once it was mostly dry, Isaac Vaughn turned off the hairdryer and set it aside.
"Little Ear, have you been up to something lately?"
Natalie Kendall turned her head to look at him, about to speak when his phone rang.
After Isaac Vaughn finished the call, he looked at her: "Frederick Whitman was beaten and is in the hospital."
"Oh," Natalie Kendall responded indifferently, seemingly unsurprised.
Isaac Vaughn continued to ask, "Was it you?"
"Yeah." She didn’t intend to hide it.
Isaac Vaughn pulled her onto his lap, burying his face in her neck, "Did something happen that I don’t know about? Did he upset you?"
"He spoke badly of you behind your back."
Natalie Kendall had planned it that way from the beginning.
But she only managed to contact some thugs from Janton.
That’s why she agreed to Frederick Whitman’s cooperation request, leading him to Janton and then making her move.
After hearing her story, Isaac Vaughn couldn’t help but laugh.
"Next time something like this happens, just tell me, and I’ll handle it."
He clasped her slender, fair fingers, "You shouldn’t get involved."
Natalie Kendall nodded.
"Isaac Vaughn, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you."
"Go ahead."
"Would you consider joining Beckett Group?"
Isaac Vaughn was taken aback.
Natalie Kendall lightly tugged on his sleeve, "I might not be able to give you a very high position for now, but would being a vice president be okay?"
Isaac Vaughn held Natalie Kendall tightly in his arms, his palm pressing against the back of her head, pulling her to kiss her.
Inviting a wolf into the house, do you understand?
He was the "wolf."
But she was completely unaware.
She even felt guilty for not being able to secure higher authority for him, the "wolf."
She was truly naive.
"Little Ear, are you sure?"
The two of them separated, both breathing heavily.
He pressed his forehead against hers, noses touching, nudging slightly.
"Have you thought it through?"
Natalie Kendall tilted her head, her pure, doe-like eyes gazing at him: "So, will you come? You will come, right?"
Isaac Vaughn just stared at her, not answering.
Until she said, "I want you to come."
He couldn’t refuse her.
——
Beckett Group.
The Monday morning meeting.
Shareholders and executives were all present.
Matthew Beckett was speaking to someone beside him.
The meeting room door opened, and Natalie Kendall walked in first.
All eyes turned towards her, spotting a tall, impressive figure following behind her.
Matthew Beckett’s gaze darkened, instinctively pressing his hand against the table.
He had a very bad premonition.
Sure enough, after the morning meeting ended, Natalie Kendall announced Isaac Vaughn’s appointment as vice president.
Everyone’s expressions varied.
But since this was Natalie Kendall’s decision, and she was now the chairperson of Beckett Group, no one dared to publicly object, so they all looked at the grim-faced Matthew Beckett.
Julian Beckett was away on a business trip and didn’t attend the morning meeting.
That evening, when he returned from the trip and got home, Matthew Beckett angrily told him about this.
"What did I say? I said Isaac Vaughn is a wolf! A traitorous ambition!"
"Just wait and see, your sister’s heart and eyes now only have him. Sooner or later, he’ll swallow Beckett Group whole!"
"Julian, if we don’t take action, there will be no place for us father and son in Beckett Group!"
"Your sister has gone mad! Completely mad!"
As he spoke, Matthew Beckett glared resentfully at Cynthia Kendall.
"Are you satisfied? Nat being so estranged from us, isn’t it all because of you that caused this!"
"She’s someone who grew up by your side. How can you be so heartless?"
Cynthia Kendall let out a cold laugh.
Julian Beckett, seeing this, hurriedly stopped his father from continuing to blame his mother.
"Dad, let’s discuss this in the study."
In the study.
"Julian, what do we do?" Matthew Beckett paced back and forth irritably with his hands behind his back.
Julian Beckett’s face was cold and dark.
"It’s strange. Wasn’t Nat planning to divorce Isaac Vaughn before? Why is she not only not divorcing him now but also trusting him so much?"
"How can we separate the two of them?"
"Julian, what are you thinking?"
Julian Beckett snapped out of it and said in a deep voice, "Since Isaac Vaughn has already entered Beckett Group, we’ll just have to take it one step at a time."
Matthew Beckett let out a heavy sigh.
Julian Beckett left the study and returned to his room.
Upon pushing the door open, he saw his mother in the room.
"Mom?"
Cynthia Kendall turned around.
Julian Beckett’s eyes suddenly darkened as he saw what she was holding in her hand.
