Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Seizing the Weakness

He’d hurried back too fast, his jaw shadowed with stubble, making him look even wilder.

Natalie reached up to touch it, and when her fingers brushed the corner of his lips, he turned his head to kiss her fingertips.

"Is it really serious?"

"It’s alright."

Isaac hugged her tightly, burying his face against her neck.

Natalie gently patted his back, "Get some sleep."

"Mm."

——

When Natalie woke up, Isaac wasn’t beside her.

She walked out and ran into him coming from the kitchen.

"Are you trying to survive on air or something?"

The fridge, aside from water, had absolutely nothing in it.

Natalie walked over, wrapped her arms around his slender waist, and nestled into his embrace.

"You hungry? Let’s go out to eat then."

Isaac looked down at her fluffy little head resting on his chest, both exasperated and amused: "Alright, let’s go."

In the elevator, they ran into that woman who knew Tristan Jordan again.

The woman saw Natalie and greeted her warmly, asking, "Why didn’t I see Dr. Jordan? Is he still at work?"

Obviously, the woman had seen her and Tristan together last time and misunderstood their relationship.

Before Natalie could explain,

The woman said again, "Men like Dr. Jordan are so rare these days. You two are such a perfect pair—so talented and beautiful. If you have any good news, you must let me know! I’ll definitely send a big red envelope."

Just then, the elevator reached the first floor. The woman said goodbye to Natalie and walked out first.

Natalie turned to see Isaac with his arms crossed, leaning against the elevator wall, his face in a half-smile, but his eyes were icy cold.

He walked out, then, noticing she was still standing in the elevator, said,

"What’s wrong?"

Natalie stepped out and quickly explained, "Assistant Jordan just helped me move. We ran into her that day, she misunderstood."

"Mm."

"Still mad?"

Isaac snorted, pinched her nose, "Next time you see her, just tell her who your husband is."

Natalie nodded obediently, "Okay."

She was so well-behaved, so soft.

Isaac’s eyes darkened, and he pulled her into his arms, pressing a kiss down onto her lips.

Natalie closed her eyes, stood on tiptoe, and responded with all her heart.

As their kiss got more and more heated—

"Oh my god!"

Suddenly, a woman’s startled exclamation.

They pulled apart to see the woman from the elevator had turned back and caught them in the act, frozen in shock.

Clearly, the woman thought she’d just witnessed an affair.

"Honey." Natalie called Isaac softly, "Let’s go."

She hooked her arm around his, pulling him forward.

Isaac was still processing it; by the time he came back to his senses, she’d already led him past the woman, pausing just long enough to nod to her politely.

He curled his lips into a smile, slipped his arm from hers and put it around her shoulders.

The two disappeared from the woman’s sight as intimate as could be.

——

The next day, at The Grant family home.

Jason Grant, supported by the caretaker, slowly walked out of the house.

On the sofa, Vanessa Grant immediately stood up, "Jason! Are you behind what’s trending online? What are you trying to do?!"

Jason shot a cold look at Isaac, who sat silently to the side.

Isaac met his gaze, completely calm and unruffled. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Jason’s composure faltered.

"Jason, you’d better go clarify immediately! The car accident had nothing to do with Isaac! It was all your fault!"

Jason brushed off the caretaker’s hand, sat down.

He raised his neck, "Clarify? Sure. As long as Isaac begs me."

At that, Vanessa turned to her son, "Baby..."

Isaac gave a little laugh, the smile not reaching his eyes.

"Uncle, do you think I don’t know who’s backing you?"

"Ethan Vaughn. Right? What did he promise you? Saving The Grant Group from bankruptcy?"

"Do you really trust him? It wouldn’t be the first time he’s stabbed someone in the back."

"Why not ask Scott Quinn or Aaron Alden what happened to them after they helped Ethan?"

Jason’s face changed color.

Vanessa exclaimed, "It’s Ethan! So it’s Ethan!"

"Jason, you’ve lost your mind! How could you help Ethan go against Isaac? He’s your own nephew!"

"Yeah! He’s my fucking nephew!" Jason growled. "But when he got involved with Natalie Kendall, did he ever think about me being his uncle? Or that he’s my nephew?"

Vanessa was left speechless by his retort.

Jason sneered, glaring at Isaac, "I’m supposed to trust you instead of Ethan? You stabbed me in the back, Isaac. This is just the beginning!"

Isaac stood, walked up to Jason, bent down to look him in the eye, "Alright, Uncle, as long as you’re sure you won’t regret it."

Then he straightened up.

"Too bad for The Grant Group though—it’s doomed."

"Baby!" Vanessa cried out, alarmed.

Jason glared at him in rage, "What did you say?!"

Isaac’s lips quirked, "But Uncle, better it goes down in my hands than in Ethan’s, don’t you think?"

"Isaac Vaughn!" Jason tried to lunge at him but, too weak, collapsed back onto the sofa halfway up.

He was panting heavily, his gaze towards Isaac filled with both rage and fear.

Isaac turned and walked out, all coldness in his retreating back.

——

Vivienne finally made it back to Janton, so, of course, she had to call her friends out to have some fun.

They went for dinner and then moved on to a bar.

She headed to the restroom, and coming back, ran into a fierce argument between a man and a woman.

The man was clearly older. He slapped the woman hard across the face, knocking her to the ground, and then viciously kicked her several more times.

"You bitch! I feed you, clothe you—everything on you, I bought it for you!"

"Now all I ask is for you to put on a smile, and you won’t even do that? It’s not like I’m asking you to sleep with anyone!"

The woman curled up on the floor, too hurt to even move.

The man spat at her and left her there.

Vivienne hesitated, then walked forward.

"Um, are you okay?"

The woman didn’t respond.

Vivienne crouched down, gently touched the woman’s shoulder, "Are you alright?"

The woman finally lifted her head.

Vivienne’s face changed as she saw who it was.

"Jessica?"

Jessica Vance hadn’t expected to run into Vivienne, let alone let her witness herself at her lowest.

She wanted to run. Right now, she was nothing but a pile of mud.

But on second thought—so what?

Vivienne helped Jessica Vance to her feet.

"Um, do you want to go to the hospital?"

Jessica shook her head.

Vivienne hesitated, then decided to take her home instead.

In the car.

Jessica kept catching Vivienne sneaking glances her way and sneered, "If you want to laugh, just laugh. I must look ridiculous to you, right?"

"Uh, I didn’t mean that."

"I lost. Completely lost. This is what I get." Jessica’s emotions boiled over.

All the pent-up pain from so long finally erupted now.

"It’s not fair! Why does Isaac keep Natalie Kendall in his heart? What’s so great about her? What does she have that I don’t?"

Jessica paused, then sneered at Vivienne, "And you—don’t forget, you’re also a loser. Isaac only has Natalie in his heart. You’ve got no right to laugh at me."

Vivienne protested instinctively, "Isaac doesn’t really love Natalie. He’s just using her."

"What did you say?" Jessica narrowed her eyes, sensing she’d hit a nerve.
