Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 83: She Runs to Him
"Isaac? Isaac, what’s wrong with you?"
Isaac Vaughn was suddenly snapped back to attention by Natalie Kendall’s voice.
He focused again.
On the hospital bed.
Jason Grant lay there quietly, motionless.
The scene where his uncle sat up and scolded him just now was nothing more than an illusion.
He walked in, and the caregiver immediately approached.
"Mr. Vaughn."
Isaac nodded slightly and looked at Jason Grant on the bed.
"What you told me on the phone just now, is it true?"
"Yes! It’s true!"
The caregiver pointed to a nearby basin, "Just now, I was cleaning Mr. Grant as usual. His fingers moved like this, like this."
As the caregiver spoke, they demonstrated with their own fingers, "They moved just like that. It startled me!"
"Is he waking up?" Natalie gripped Isaac’s arm at the words.
Isaac glanced at her, patting her hand, "We can’t be sure yet. The doctor needs to come and take a look."
Soon, the doctor arrived after hearing the news.
But after an examination, no signs of Jason Grant waking were found.
The caregiver’s face turned red, continuously emphasizing on the side that they truly saw his fingers move and were not lying.
"Continue to closely observe," the doctor finally said.
Isaac thanked the doctor and escorted him out.
Upon returning, the caregiver had a look of embarrassment on their face, "Mr. Vaughn, I, I..."
"As the doctor said, continue to closely observe. If you discover anything, remember to inform me immediately."
"Okay, okay, I will definitely..."
At that moment, the ward door was suddenly pushed open.
Old Mr. Grant, upon seeing the people in the room, angrily questioned, "What are you doing! Jason needs quiet rest!"
The caregiver explained, "Old Mr. Grant, today when I was cleaning Mr. Grant, I noticed his fingers moved!"
"What!" Old Mr. Grant’s eyes widened in surprise at the news.
However, in his grandfather’s reaction, Isaac sensed something unusual.
Logically, his grandfather should have been delighted to hear such news.
Yet, his grandfather seemed only surprised, not joyful.
"But the doctor just examined him and said, said Mr. Grant isn’t showing signs of waking yet." The caregiver’s voice lowered.
Old Mr. Grant discreetly sighed in relief and wheeled himself in.
He looked at his son on the bed and then turned to the caregiver, "Are you sure you didn’t see it wrong?"
The caregiver quickly replied, "No! No! I saw it! I really saw it!"
Old Mr. Grant said nothing more, withdrew his gaze, clasped his son’s hand, and shooed them out, "If there’s nothing else, leave now."
For Isaac, Old Mr. Grant didn’t have a word to spare, especially seeing him with Natalie.
If it weren’t for his urgency to advance Natalie’s marriage to his son, he would have even wanted to curse them for being shameless.
Isaac and Natalie exchanged a look and left together.
After they had left, Old Mr. Grant coldly announced to the caregiver who was tidying up the basin, "You’re fired."
"Bang!"
The basin in the caregiver’s hands crashed to the floor.
She looked utterly astonished.
She didn’t understand what she had done wrong to be dismissed.
——
Since Isaac was now the deputy general manager of the Rhovan branch, he had returned to Janton this time to accompany Natalie.
But the company still had a ton of matters needing him, so he had no choice but to return to Rhovan.
Meanwhile, Natalie couldn’t leave yet.
The announcement to board repeated over and over.
Isaac hugged Natalie, whispering sweet reassurances in her ear.
"I promise I’ll come back as soon as I have time, okay?"
Natalie clung tightly to his waist, her face buried in his embrace, unwilling to let go.
Just as Isaac gritted his teeth, considering changing his flight, she suddenly released him, then walked straight out of the airport without looking back.
Isaac watched her seemingly resolute back and couldn’t help but smile wryly.
No goodbye?
Just left like that?
The next day, Natalie went to Beckett Group.
In the meeting room.
The position originally belonging to Sebastian Beckett was empty.
The rest of the seats were filled with company shareholders and high-level staff.
Natalie walked in accompanied by Matthew Beckett and Julian Beckett.
All eyes instantly turned to her, fixing on her.
Natalie instinctively paused.
"Nat, it’s alright, don’t be afraid." Matthew patted her, gesturing for her to sit in Sebastian Beckett’s chair.
Who would’ve thought that just as Natalie approached, before she sat down, a mocking voice sounded:
"A little girl fit to sit there?"
"Handing the company over to such a girl, isn’t that madness?"
"Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!"
Facing the crowd’s skepticism, Natalie took a deep breath and sat down expressionlessly.
The crowd was briefly silenced, seeing her sit down so calmly.
Matthew stood behind Natalie, his hand on her chair back.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Nat is still young and doesn’t know much yet. If there’s anything done wrong or unsatisfactory in the future, please guide her."
Natalie listened quietly, her eyes growing colder.
Her father seemed to be speaking up for her, but he was also emphasizing her "incompetence," reinforcing others’ impressions of her as "easy to bully."
*
"Nat, this is your grandfather’s office."
"The decoration might not quite suit a girl like you. Someday, I’ll have someone redo it for you."
"You rest for now, I have another meeting."
With that, Matthew left.
Natalie walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the busy traffic outside.
In her heart, she felt lost.
Her grandfather had handed over both the Beckett Group and the family to her.
She couldn’t fathom why her grandfather would make such a decision.
"Knock, knock."
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Natalie turned around.
"Come in."
The next moment.
A man in a black suit, handsome and with an elegant demeanor, walked in.
"Hello, Miss Kendall."
Looking at him, Natalie sensed goodwill in his eyes and responded:
"Hello."
"Miss Kendall, I’m Tristan Jordan, appointed by Old Mr. Beckett to be your assistant."
Finishing his introduction, Tristan saw no resistance in Natalie’s eyes, so he stepped closer.
Smiling, he said, "From now on, I’ll help you better adapt to everything here."
"With me around, Miss Kendall doesn’t need to worry about anything. And I believe that you will do wonderfully."
This was the first affirmation Natalie received today.
She looked at Tristan, inexplicably finding him to exude a reassuring sense of trust.
"You said you were arranged by my grandfather?"
"Yes."
Natalie nodded, earnestly saying, "Then, thank you for your hard work."
"You’re welcome, Miss Kendall."
And Tristan truly lived up to being arranged by her grandfather.
With his help, Natalie managed to get through the day smoothly.
"Miss Kendall, these documents will help you better understand the Beckett Group."
Natalie took the documents Tristan handed over and went back to study them throughout the night.
The next day, Tristan would explain the areas she didn’t understand.
His explanations weren’t dull, but rather interesting.
Natalie thought if he became a teacher, he would certainly be well-liked by students.
That day.
After completing their work, the two of them walked out of Beckett Group together, discussing work as they headed toward the car.
Suddenly, a deep male voice called from a distance:
"Little Ear."
Natalie turned her head, seeing the person leaning against the car nearby, her eyes widening in disbelief, unable to hide her surprise.
Then, under Tristan’s startled gaze, she ran towards the man.
Isaac opened his arms to catch her, gently stroking her back while casting a cold gaze at Tristan.
Tristan, with a smile, walked over and greeted, "Second Master Vaughn, long time no see."
Natalie, hearing this, asked in surprise, "You know each other?"
