Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Because He’s Ruthless

It wasn’t until the plane landed in Seaharbor that Natalie finally turned her phone back on.

She saw that Isaac had called her many times and sent lots of messages.

She replied to him with just one message.

[I’ll come back when I’m done.]

The day she found out her mother wanted to kill her, she had actually wanted to ask Isaac what her father and older brother thought about it.

But then she realized, after being taken away by Isaac for so long, her father and brother had never come looking for her—their attitude was clear enough.

Maybe it wouldn’t matter if she just disappeared.

It was at that moment that she had this idea.

Because she found out that her "sacrifice" moved no one.

So she didn’t want to be a puppet anymore, didn’t want to go along with them and do things she didn’t want.

She flagged down a car and, once inside, dialed a number.

Tomorrow was the 5th.

After a long wait, someone finally picked up.

Natalie spoke coolly: "You’ll be in Seaharbor tomorrow, right? There’s something I want to talk to you about."

But after she finished, there was no reply—just heavy breathing on the other end.

Natalie frowned slightly, and the call was abruptly hung up.

——

The next day.

Zenithar.

The fifth day of each month was set as the "date day" for Natalie and Jason Grant.

Their relationship had been arranged by the Beckett and Grant families.

They were supposed to marry as soon as she reached legal age.

But now, she planned to have a serious talk with Jason Grant.

She waited a long time, but Jason never showed up.

Just as she was about to call, a figure in a wheelchair slowly appeared.

To her surprise, it was Old Mr. Grant.

Natalie hadn’t expected that Jason wouldn’t come—that it would be his father instead.

When Old Mr. Grant saw her, his anger was laced with shock.

After all, the accident scene had been horrendous.

She really was lucky to be alive.

"Why are you here?"

Natalie noticed Old Mr. Grant was now in a wheelchair. Was he unwell?

She was about to ask out of concern when Old Mr. Grant cut her off with an angry roar: "You know perfectly well Jason can’t come!"

Jason Grant can’t come?

Why?

Natalie frowned. "Is something wrong with Jason Grant?"

If not, why couldn’t he come?

"Don’t pretend you don’t know!" Old Mr. Grant, thinking of his son’s state, was overwhelmed by grief.

His gaze at Natalie was cold and sharp, devoid of his old kindness, and his tone was icy: "If you have something to say, then say it."

Though Natalie thought his attitude was strange, she decided to express her decision first.

"I want to call off the engagement with Jason Grant."

"Ha!" Old Mr. Grant wasn’t surprised—if anything, he was mocking.

"With the way Jason is now, your engagement was void long ago."

He paused, then his eyes were even colder: "But do you think, just because the engagement is over, you can be with Isaac Vaughn?"

Natalie froze.

How does Old Mr. Grant know about Isaac?

Just as she was about to ask, a deep male voice sounded.

"Grandfather."

Natalie looked up—an upright, tall figure approached from behind Old Mr. Grant.

Wait.

He just called him grandfather.

Who was he calling?

Soon Natalie had her answer.

Isaac knelt beside Old Mr. Grant’s wheelchair, repeating, "Grandfather."

Isaac Vaughn was Old Mr. Grant’s grandson?

Then Jason Grant was his uncle?

Natalie’s shock left her staring at Isaac in disbelief.

But Old Mr. Grant, looking at Isaac—the grandson he’d cherished most in the past—now had only ice in his eyes.

"Isaac, do you really have the nerve to call me grandfather? How have I ever treated you, and this is how you stab at my heart!"

Isaac’s eyes darkened and his fingers tightened around the wheelchair’s armrest.

"I’m sorry, Grandfather."

Old Mr. Grant turned away, looking weary.

What’s the point of saying anything more now?

What happened, happened.

The Grant family, Jason, and even himself, had all become laughingstocks in Janton.

He didn’t want to stay here a minute longer.

He was about to leave when Isaac stopped him.

"Grandfather, I have one request—please promise me."

Old Mr. Grant frowned and looked at him.

"Please keep secret the fact that you met Natalie Kendall here today."

Old Mr. Grant looked at Natalie, then coldly laughed: "Isaac, what if I refuse? What are you going to do to me?"

"Grandfather, The Grant Group is barely holding on. I know you’ve been worried."

"Isaac!" Old Mr. Grant stared at him in disbelief, eyes red with anger.

Was this really his grandson?

He was actually threatening him with The Grant Group!

"Cough, cough!"

"Fine! Fine!"

He laughed bitterly in his rage. "Good! Isaac, well done!"

Isaac gritted his teeth. "Grandfather, rest assured, I won’t let The Grant Group fall."

Old Mr. Grant’s eyes were clouded. He let out a cold, bleak laugh and nodded, "Then I must thank you—thank you, Isaac."

Such a fine grandson!

Truly a fine grandson!

At that very moment, Old Mr. Grant even thought it a pity that Isaac was only a grandson by blood, not by name—not actually a Grant.

If the Grant family could be handed to him, it would be a thousand times better than now.

Because he was ruthless enough.

"Grandfather, let me have someone drive you home."

Isaac straightened as he spoke.

After Old Mr. Grant left,

Isaac turned to Natalie.

Natalie looked at him too.

"Jason Grant is your uncle?"

"Yes."

There was no way to hide it anymore, so he didn’t.

He walked over and tried to take her hand.

But Natalie quickly pulled her hand back.

"Jason Grant is your uncle, and I’m his fiancée."

She stared at him. "You knew all along—about me and your uncle?"

Didn’t that mean they were...

The word sent a chill through Natalie.

Isaac grabbed her hand again, looking into her eyes: "Little Ear, I am me, you are you, and he is he."

"Our relationship has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s not important."

Is that really true?

Is it really not important?

Natalie’s mind was a complete mess.

She pressed her lips together, was silent for a long time, then finally asked, "Your uncle... What happened to Jason Grant? Old Mr. Grant said he couldn’t come—what did he mean?"

At that, Isaac’s eyes dimmed.

"He was in a car accident."

"Is it serious?"

"Yes. He might never wake up."

"What?" Natalie was shocked.

Isaac asked, "Do you want to see him? He’s in a hospital in Janton. If you want to go..."

Natalie shook her head gently.

"If I don’t go see him, will you think I’m heartless?"

"No."

He knew she had no real feelings for his uncle.

"Even though I was engaged to him, that’s all it ever was—just an engagement."

"Yeah, I know."

Isaac walked Natalie out with him.

"Since you’re in Seaharbor, do you want to visit Granny Peterson?"

Natalie nodded quickly.

After visiting Granny Peterson, Isaac took her back to Rhovan.

On the flight back,

Natalie nestled in Isaac’s arms and told him, "I just wanted to come back and talk about ending the engagement—once it’s done, I’ll return to Rhovan."

"Okay." Isaac held her tighter.

——

Back in Rhovan, Natalie continued her classes at Rhovan University.

Whenever Isaac had time, he’d pick her up himself. If not, he’d have the driver do it.

That day, after finishing a meeting, Isaac left the conference room and Charles Peterson came over to say there was a young lady looking for him—she was waiting in the lounge.

Isaac headed to the lounge, opened the door, and was momentarily surprised to see who was inside.

"You..."

Just then, his phone rang—it was Natalie calling.

"What’s up?"

"This afternoon’s class was canceled. Can I come to your office?"

Isaac looked at the person in front of him, his gaze darkening slightly.

He spoke to Natalie on the phone, "I’m not at the office today. I’m out elsewhere."

"Okay, then I’ll head home."

"Alright."

He hung up.

Natalie was just about to leave when she overheard two women passing by, talking.

"Who do you think is that girl looking for Vice President Vaughn? Could she be his girlfriend?"

"No idea, but the two of them are in the lounge together right now."
