Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 45: His Uncle Probably Just Wants to Get Natalie into Bed
The voice on the other end changed.
Ansel Vaughn’s deep and solemn voice came through: "Come back immediately."
And then he hung up.
Natalie Kendall was gripping Isaac Vaughn’s arm, her fingernails unconsciously digging deep into his flesh.
Isaac gently patted her to soothe her, "I’ll be back shortly."
She looked at him and suddenly realized she had left deep marks on his arm, turning slightly purplish. She quickly withdrew her hand.
He, however, held her hand in return and looked into her eyes: "Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered if the sky falls."
——
PM.
The Vaughn Residence’s living room was brightly lit.
Isaac walked in from outside, and a cup flew towards him.
He didn’t dodge. The cup hit his chest with a dull thud before shattering on the ground.
"Baby!"
Vanessa Grant exclaimed in shock, instinctively wanting to go over to check if he was okay, but her husband stopped her.
Ansel Vaughn glared, sneering coldly: "You’ve really brought disgrace to The Vaughn Residence!"
Isaac’s expression turned calm and he stepped forward, sitting down on the sofa.
"Since you all know, I won’t hide it."
"Baby, you!" Vanessa was full of disappointment, "Even though I don’t like the one you chose, you two did get registered. How can you, how can you cheat and go to a hotel with another woman."
Vanessa and Ansel’s marriage was extremely happy. Ansel had loved and cherished her for decades without change, so she couldn’t comprehend infidelity.
She never thought this would happen to her own son.
Before marriage, it could be forgiven, but once married, one should be loyal to their partner.
Upon hearing his mom’s words, Isaac’s eyes flashed.
Things didn’t seem to be as he thought.
If it were true that his relationship with Natalie was exposed, his mom’s focus wouldn’t just be on infidelity.
"Mom, how did you know I went to the hotel?"
"There are photos. Your cousin sent them to me."
Vanessa said, taking out her phone to show Isaac.
The photos only captured the back view of him and Natalie.
His mother recognized him at a glance.
After all, she carried him for ten months.
But she didn’t recognize Natalie.
Firstly, because Natalie was draped in his coat at the time; secondly, because his mom wouldn’t associate her with Natalie at all.
"Your cousin went there for afternoon tea and happened to see you. She had seen you both at your grandpa’s birthday, thought something was off, and came to ask me why you two broke up so soon."
Thankfully, at the time, they only said they were dating, not that they were already registered.
A close call.
Isaac shrugged indifferently: "Just fooling around."
"Baby!" Vanessa was deeply hurt, her eyes reddening, "How can you be like this!"
She really couldn’t accept her son’s attitude toward marriage, feeling very cold-hearted.
At this moment, Ansel suddenly called Isaac to follow him upstairs with a stern expression.
Vanessa stayed downstairs for a while but couldn’t relax, so she followed them upstairs.
Just as she reached the door of the study, she heard noises coming from inside.
She was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.
The sounds grew louder and louder until her son let out an uncontrollable cry of pain.
Vanessa immediately pushed the door open and rushed in, shocked by the scene before her:
"Husband! What are you doing!"
——
At the hotel.
Natalie checked the conversation window with Isaac every two minutes, afraid of missing any messages.
She waited like this until 2 AM when her phone finally rang.
She answered immediately, hearing Isaac’s lazy voice: "You answered so quickly, not asleep?"
Natalie’s voice was muffled, "How could I sleep? Are you okay?"
"I’m fine, don’t worry," Isaac said, "They only got a back view, can’t tell it’s you."
Natalie held the phone tightly, saying nothing.
Isaac laughed: "I already said I’ve got you covered if the sky falls, what are you worried about? Go to sleep."
Natalie asked again: "Are you really okay?"
"Yeah, I’m fine. If you don’t believe me, open a video call and you can see my chest."
Natalie hung up without a word.
A minute later, a message from Isaac popped up on her phone.
[Sleep well.]
*
Isaac always thought he was quite fit.
He frequented the gym, boasting well-toned chest muscles, abs, and a V-line.
So he didn’t expect that after just one beating, he couldn’t hold up and ended up with a fever.
The family doctor had come, given him an injection, and prescribed medication.
In a daze, he heard his mom complaining tearfully to his dad about how his dad had been too harsh, saying not even a tiger eats its cubs.
"Do you know what kind of foolish thing he did!" Ansel’s anger was hard to contain.
But his anger only brought tearful accusations from Vanessa: "You’re being mean to me."
Ansel’s anger subsided immediately, and he embraced his beloved wife, coaxing her.
Later Isaac fell asleep.
When he woke again, he first sensed a fragrant and soft bundle in his arms.
Opening his eyes, he looked down and saw a small, cool and beautiful face emerge from the fluffy head nestled to his chest.
A delicate, pale hand reached up and placed itself on his forehead.
"No more fever."
He closed his eyes and rubbed into the crook of her neck, his voice slightly hoarse, "How did you get here?"
"Climbed in through the window."
"..."
Isaac chuckled softly.
Natalie said, "Actually, your mom invited me to stay here for a while."
"Walking right into the trap." Isaac rolled over, pressing against her, "Aren’t you afraid of being discovered?"
Natalie wiped the sweat from his forehead and quietly looked at him: "Why did you lie to me? You said you were fine."
He was beaten so badly there wasn’t a spot on him that didn’t hurt.
"I’m really fine, don’t believe me? Try me?"
He leaned in closer.
Natalie propped herself up and kissed his lips, "You better lie down."
Isaac "tched" at her.
Feeling greatly insulted.
But carefully tasting the coaxing tone in her words, he felt at ease, so he lay back down as she asked.
Here was The Vaughn Residence, and she’d snuck in to see him, which was enough.
"I should be going."
Natalie started to move, but Isaac grabbed her waist from behind.
His front pressed against her back, his lips nudging her ear.
"Stay for a while longer."
Natalie stayed quietly in his arms, listening to his whispers by her ear.
"Have you decided on whether it’s a lawn wedding or a beach wedding?"
"I think a beach wedding would be nice. By then, don’t wear a wedding dress, wear a bikini."
Natalie wanted to sew his mouth shut.
——
The next day, Isaac woke up, and Natalie was long gone, probably left in the middle of the night.
He sat up.
Vanessa came in from outside.
"Baby, are you feeling better?"
"Yeah, I’m better."
His mom appeared somewhat awkward, likely still bothered by the "infidelity" issue.
He promised repeatedly that there wouldn’t be a next time.
Only then did her expression slightly improve.
Through some indirect questioning, Isaac learned that Natalie was not at the hospital but at the hotel instead.
Vanessa said, "Your uncle has prepared a surprise. It’s probably to have a candlelight dinner with Nat, making up for not having a proper proposal to Nat."
Isaac’s face immediately darkened upon hearing this.
Candlelight dinner?
Romantic?
His uncle might just want to get Natalie into bed!
