Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 177: My Son Is Begging You to Get Back Together?
Cynthia Kendall and Natalie Kendall exchanged glances, her tone indifferent: "What do you think I should know?"
Natalie wasn’t sure either.
But this whole thing was odd.
Cynthia and Matthew Beckett had been emotionally estranged for over a decade, yet they had always managed to keep things peaceful on the surface.
Why did Matthew suddenly become fed up with Cynthia and insist on sending her to a sanatorium?
Perhaps—
A suspicion lingered in Natalie’s mind.
But before she could voice it to Cynthia for confirmation, the sudden sound of the doorbell interrupted her.
The moment the door opened, Nina Abbott cried out "Ambush," lunging forward to hug Natalie.
"Nat, I missed you so much."
Natalie caught a whiff of alcohol on Nina and frowned slightly, holding her up, "Have you been drinking?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Just a little." Nina smiled, squinted, and made a tiny gesture with her fingers, pouting, "I’m upset. It’s all your brother’s fault!"
As Nina talked, she tugged Natalie further inside.
Natalie wanted to caution Nina, but Nina was too drunk to catch any hints.
"How could your brother be like that! He clearly promised to ’chase after his wife,’ and then what? Where’s the promised chase I’ve been waiting for so long?"
"I’m furious! I’m going to complain! I’ll tell his mom how he behaves, not keeping his word!"
Natalie looked exasperated, wanting to cover Nina’s mouth.
If only she knew that the "mom" she intended to complain about was right here, she’d regret saying a word.
"Is there a problem with how I raised my son?"
Suddenly, an icy female voice sounded.
Nina, who had been complaining to Natalie, was shocked, and turned toward the voice.
"Nat, she, she..." Nina clutched Natalie’s hand tightly, sobering up significantly.
She vaguely guessed who Cynthia Kendall was.
She wished she could just drop dead.
Wished she could dash her head against something.
Cynthia looked Nina up and down expressionlessly, and asked, "Are you dating my son?"
Nina, in a moment of hot-headedness, blurted out, "We dated and broke up. Now he’s begging me to get back together."
As soon as she said it, Nina wished she could bite her tongue off.
"My son, begging you to get back together?" Cynthia could hardly believe her ears.
This was still in Chinese, right?
Natalie reckoned that keeping Nina here any longer would only make things worse.
"Nina, let me get someone to send you home first."
With that, she drew Nina out the door, instructing Isaac Vaughn’s bodyguard to take her back.
Before getting in the car, Nina held Natalie’s hand, tearful, "Nat, did I cause trouble? Your mom seemed to really dislike me. She won’t stop your brother from being with me, will she?"
"Don’t overthink it. Go home and get some rest. We can talk more tomorrow," Natalie comforted Nina, watching as the car drove away.
Upon returning home via the elevator, she remembered something.
Immediately, she called Nina, but the line was busy, so she called Julian Beckett, which was also busy.
Sure enough, ten minutes later.
Julian’s call came through.
Natalie answered.
"Nat, is Mom there with you?"
"Yes."
"What happened? What’s going on?"
Natalie wanted to say nothing was wrong, but she knew her brother wouldn’t believe that.
Her relationship with Cynthia was like oil and water; there was no way Cynthia was visiting to bond.
"I’m heading back to the country immediately."
"Brother, you’re there for negotiations, and that deal is critical to the Beckett Group—it’s crucial for you."
"But—"
"Brother, trust me, I can handle it. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of her."
After hanging up, Natalie was just about to return to her room to rest when the doorbell rang again.
