Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 158: You Can’t Find Him?
"What happened?"
Faced with Natalie’s question, Franklin Finch raked a hand through his hair. "I don’t know either. But a grown man just disappeared, he..."
"He’s not a child anymore. He’s an adult." Natalie picked Jordan Rivers up from the bed and set him on the floor.
Jordan was clever; he immediately put on his shoes by himself, then reached out for Natalie’s hand and asked cheerfully, "Sis, are we going home?"
Natalie glanced down at him.
Even though Jordan had been brought here by Isaac Vaughn acting on his own, she couldn’t just leave him with Franklin Finch.
She had no choice but to take him back with her for now.
She could contact Jordan’s aunt later.
"Thank you for looking after Jordan these past few days. I’ll take him home now."
With that, Natalie took Jordan’s hand and started to leave.
She’d just reached the door when Franklin’s cold voice sounded behind her: "Do you have to be like this, Natalie?"
Natalie stopped in her tracks.
Looking at her back, Franklin let out a cold laugh. "No matter how much of a bastard Isaac is, he’s genuine with you. Don’t you think you’re being a little too heartless, Miss Kendall?"
Natalie unconsciously tightened her grip on Jordan’s hand.
Jordan looked up at her, then immediately turned to face Franklin, shielding Natalie like a little wolf cub. "Don’t bully my sister!"
"Ha!" Franklin’s face twisted with disdain. "What a pair of ingrates, both of you."
He waved his hand impatiently, barely restraining himself from swearing. "Go, go, just leave already."
——
Natalie brought Jordan home. He sensibly said he could stay by himself.
But Natalie still called for a temporary nanny to come over.
Once the nanny arrived, she got ready to head to Beckett Group.
She got in the car, but didn’t start it right away.
Eventually, she pulled out her phone and dialed Isaac Vaughn’s number again.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is powered off..."
The robotic woman’s voice still came through, cold and unfeeling.
Natalie gripped her phone tighter, a sudden wave of unease rising in her chest.
Maybe Isaac was just trying to avoid going to the bureau with her to file for divorce.
But what if that wasn’t it?
Just as she was being consumed by her chaotic thoughts, her phone rang.
She thought it was Isaac, quickly picked it up, but it turned out to be Lucas Lowell.
"Hello."
"Natalie, how about lunch together? I happen to be near your office for something."
"No, you go ahead."
"It’s boring eating alone. You have to eat anyway, so why not together? There’s a really great restaurant near your company—won’t take much of your time."
"Really, I’m not hungry."
Natalie’s voice sounded a little off.
Lucas asked if something was wrong, if something had happened.
"If something’s up, just tell me. Don’t worry, no matter how big, I can handle it. I know people everywhere."
Lucas sounded supremely confident, almost boastful.
Natalie paused for two seconds, then actually spoke: "Can you help me find someone?"
"Of course." Lucas agreed without hesitation. "Finding people is easy. Tell me, who is it?"
"...Isaac Vaughn."
"Who?" Lucas was stunned. "Second Master Vaughn? You can’t reach him? What’s wrong?"
"Can’t get in touch. His phone’s off."
"Probably out of battery." Lucas said lazily, but when he didn’t hear Natalie respond, he cleared his throat and changed his tune: "Alright, no problem. I’ll find him for you—even if I have to turn the city upside down."
"Thank you."
"No need for thanks." Lucas went back to his easygoing tone. "So, can we have lunch together at noon?"
Before Natalie could answer, another call came in.
