Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 121: She Was Letting Him Say Goodbye to the Baby
The doctor and nurse walked in.
"How are you feeling?" the doctor asked Natalie.
After receiving an okay response, the doctor jotted a few notes on the medical record and advised Nina, "Family members should take good care of her. These next few days are crucial."
"After the operation, her body is weak, so she must rest well. Don’t assume that being young is an excuse for neglect; be careful to avoid leaving any health issues that could affect having children in the future."
Upon hearing this, Nina’s face turned serious, and she nodded repeatedly to show she understood.
After the doctor and nurse left, she said to Natalie, "I’ll go find a place to buy some soup for you tomorrow to help with recovery. Do you want to eat anything else? Wait, I’ll check what you should avoid eating right now."
Nina took out her phone while speaking.
Natalie whispered, "No need to go through so much trouble."
Nina said sternly, "No way. Didn’t you hear what the doctor said just now? You need to be careful now."
"Thank you, Nina, and sorry for the trouble."
"Stop being so polite. If you keep this up, I’ll get mad."
Natalie smiled, and her phone dinged.
It was a message from Isaac asking if she was finished with her tasks and if they could continue talking.
She turned off her phone without replying.
She was very tired and wanted to rest.
——
When Tristan Jordan entered, Mrs. Jordan was in a video call with Vivienne Jordan.
A few days ago, Vivienne returned to Rhovan to continue working, but since Isaac had already left that place, she was having a hard time continuing in a job she took because of him and was planning to resign.
"Tristan, say something to your sister; she wants to quit her job."
Mrs. Jordan handed the phone to her son as she spoke.
Tristan took it, sat on the couch, rubbed his brows, and asked, "Why are you suddenly resigning? Weren’t you doing well?"
Vivienne pouted, "It’s just so far from home."
"Why didn’t you think it was far from home when you insisted on going?" Tristan bluntly pointed out.
Vivienne stuck out her tongue, turned over on the bed, and looked at her brother in the video, wanting to say something but hesitated.
Tristan noticed and asked, "What’s wrong? Do you have something to say?"
Vivienne scratched at the bedsheet with her finger, "Well, today when I went to the hospital to see a sick colleague, I saw Jiang, umm..."
"What?" Tristan didn’t catch it, "Saw who?"
Vivienne sighed, sat up straight, and said word by word, "Natalie Kendall."
Tristan froze for a moment, then stared at his sister in the video, "You saw Natalie Kendall at the hospital? The one in Rhovan?"
"Yes," Vivienne nodded.
After hanging up the video call, Tristan got up and went out.
Mrs. Jordan came out of the kitchen just then, hurriedly calling after him, "Tristan, where are you going? Dinner is almost ready."
"Mom, I’m heading to Rhovan."
"What?" Mrs. Jordan was shocked, quickly stepping forward to stop him, "Why are you suddenly going to Rhovan? Did something happen to your sister?"
Tristan quickly reassured his mother, "It’s not Vivienne, she’s fine. I just have something to take care of in Rhovan. Mom, I can’t explain it now."
A day later.
Tristan landed in Rhovan.
He felt impulsive himself.
But he couldn’t control himself.
Not knowing what was wrong with Natalie Kendall, he had to see her with his own eyes to be at ease.
If she was unwell, why didn’t she choose a hospital in Janton, why come all the way to Rhovan?
After asking around, Tristan finally reached the door of Natalie’s hospital room.
Just as he was about to knock, a woman’s voice came from behind, "Who are you looking for?"
Nina saw the unfamiliar man at the door and immediately became wary.
She quickly stepped forward, blocking the door, and frowned as she scrutinized Tristan.
Tristan said, "I’m here to see Miss Kendall. Is she inside?"
"No," Nina was not about to let him in easily.
Natalie Kendall didn’t want anyone to know, which is why she came all the way to Rhovan.
"You better leave," she said firmly.
Tristan didn’t force his way in but instead suggested, "How about this, would you inform Miss Kendall that Tristan Jordan is here to see if she’s willing to meet me?"
Nina didn’t say anything, entered the room, and quickly shut the door.
Tristan waited outside.
Less than five minutes later.
The room door opened.
"You can come in."
——
That evening, Isaac had a dinner meeting at a private club.
Coincidentally, Julian Beckett also had a dinner engagement there that night.
They met at the entrance when the dinners ended.
Julian was accompanied by a tall, seductive woman.
Isaac remembered that Natalie once mentioned her brother liked women of this mature type, which reminded him of Nina.
Julian exchanged a few words with the woman, who glanced at Isaac meaningfully.
Isaac’s face turned cold, thinking Julian had terrible taste in women.
After the woman got in the car.
Julian approached Isaac but heard him speak first, "Was she worth dumping Nina for?"
After all, he’s Natalie’s friend.
Although Isaac was displeased with Nina monopolizing Natalie, he felt he should speak up for her friend given the circumstances.
Unexpectedly, Julian frowned, speaking coldly, "What are you talking about? Nina and I have not broken up."
"Not broken up?" Isaac was shocked, "Then why did she take Natalie to Glanville to nurse a broken heart?"
Upon hearing this, Julian frowned even deeper, "What’s this about Glanville? Nina told me she was visiting relatives in Rhovan."
After a pause, he asked Isaac, "Did you just say Natalie and Nina are together?"
But by this time, Isaac wasn’t listening to Julian anymore.
Natalie hadn’t gone to Glanville.
She went to Rhovan.
Why did she lie to him?
Not only was the location a lie, but also the fact that Nina wasn’t heartbroken—so why did she leave Janton?
Suddenly!
During their voice call two nights ago, he had heard hospital background noises, which resurfaced in his mind.
He realized he had caught onto something.
But he didn’t dare to believe it.
Isaac walked toward his car briskly.
Julian could only see his steps growing anxious and frantic, as if he was provoked by something.
After contemplating for a moment, Julian took out his phone and called Nina.
But Nina didn’t answer.
——
He bought the earliest available flight overnight.
When Isaac landed in Rhovan, it was 10 AM.
He rushed straight to the hospital.
On the way there.
Holding his phone, he looked at the chat window with Natalie, hesitating several times, but he didn’t dare send even a word.
Upon reaching the hospital.
He headed to the inpatient department.
Upon actually confirming Natalie’s name there, Isaac suddenly became afraid.
He didn’t dare to verify the truth.
Didn’t dare to face her.
It turned out everything had been traceable.
He had been on the right track from the beginning, just thrown off by her.
It wasn’t a stomach issue.
The retching.
The unfinished smoked fish.
And—
When she asked him to talk to her belly, she was actually having him say goodbye to their little baby.
"Sir, are you okay?"
A nurse only saw Isaac slide down the side of the guide desk until he was squatting on the floor. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
He hung his head, gasping for air.
The suffocating heartache made him completely unable to stand.
