Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 244
Chapter 244: Chapter 244
Aaron left the area after he got the necklace. There was nothing else to gain anyway at that place. Moreover, with him taking away the necklace, the mist started to thin little by little.
This would certainly attract attention from everyone, not just the alliance but also the cults.
The appearance of any mysterious occurrence can be attributed to the presence of something powerful, like treasures or even some powerful creatures.
How its appearance attracts people, so would its sudden disappearance. People would want to know why this anomaly suddenly disappeared.
If the anomaly was caused by some treasure, they want to know who obtained the treasure, and maybe be can get the treasure from them. If the anomaly was caused by the presence of a powerful creature, the people want to know why it suddenly disappeared from the area.
If a powerful creature disappeared from its resting area would be for very few reasons.
One is that it found something interesting and moved to get that.
Second was something even more powerful has appeared in the territory. So, either it moved away in terror or was killed.
There could be other reasons, like an upcoming calamity or something along those lines that they can sense, which lower-level creatures can’t.
Powerful creatures have very few reasons to move from their place of resting, and none of those reasons are good, and they have a reason to alarm the higher-ups of all the organisations.
Whether they are good or evil, they don’t want their people to die unnecessarily, unless the leaders are psychopaths who revel in the deaths of people.
Though Aaron didn’t think to that extent, he knew that the sudden disappearance of the mist would raise questions, and investigations would follow. He didn’t want to be entangled in such a mess. So, he disappeared from the place once he got what he wanted.

Duskmist City...
"Hmm, the mist seemed different today", the commander Greyson thought to himself.
He could feel that there was something different about the mist, but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was. So, he quickly pushed that thought away.
There are much more important things to think about than the mist, like what to tell the Alliance and Dusk Academy Higher-ups about what happened in the city.
The city got almost wiped out, if not for the intervention from Aaron.
He stopped the ritual, making sure that the city and the people inside survived. For such acts, the alliance would give some benefits to the person, and in this case, Aaron.
The council, which had become greedy over the years, took the side of a boy who was jealous of the hero, causing strain between the hero and the city. The hero, Aaron, has already left the city.
The Dusk Academy was furious about what transpired here. They gave a week, and after that, Dusk Academy students would be withdrawn from here.
Such a move wouldn’t miss from the eyes of the alliance, and once the alliance finds the reason, they were sure to punish the council and him too.
Though he was sure that his position would not be sacked due to the situation across the world. If it were a year or two before, he, along with the council, would be sacked. For now, he would be punished, but the council would be sacked for sure.
If they didn’t and the public came to know about this, the alliance would lose the public’s faith in them, and it would crumble.
So, the city would surely be in disarray for the next few days or maybe a few weeks. He needed to be prepared for the change.
He had no time to think about the mist at that point.

Underground...a few miles away from Duskmist City...
The cult members have gathered at their secret base to talk about what to do regarding their recent failure.
This group was given the task of levelling the Duskmist city. Even a half-destroyed city would have been considered a success on their part, but they were only successful in destroying less than 10%.
The main part of this failure was that the summoned creature didn’t act.
The cult made a device that would alert them when the ritual was successful and when the summoned creature appeared. Of course, it was limited by distance, and also, it could only do so as long as these devices were paired with that particular ritual.
They can’t be paired with another similar ritual and think that it works here too.
No, it has to be paired with the one they are overseeing. This was a way to alert the members when it was time to escape.
The summoned creature won’t care whether they are the ones who summoned it or not. They would destroy everything in their path.
They got the signal that the ritual succeeded, much before their estimated time, but they were happy nonetheless and also were in a hurry to escape the creature before it appeared outside.
So, they didn’t think much.
Only after the failure to destroy the city came out, did they start to think about what had happened.
Did the devices falter for some reason?
They have no idea how to check that.
So, they had discreetly checked for the reasons why the creature didn’t attack the city.
The only information they got the information that the ritual was stopped by a student. There was no mention of the creature.
The group didn’t believe that and discarded the information, believing that this was a misleading tactic of the alliance.
There were two reasons for that.
First, their devices alerted them of the creature’s appearance. So, such a creature can’t be defeated by a student. Someone powerful was present in the city, who silently eliminated the creature, without causing any ripples.
Also, the man who was overseeing the ritual was not someone that a student could defeat. He was Rank-6, though that was something he had achieved recently, but nonetheless, he was a Rank-6 necromancer, which would mean he was on a different stage.
No student could defeat the man.
This only made them sure that there was someone very powerful present in the city, trying to lure the escaped cult members out. They were sure that the news was the bait, which would attract their attention.
The cults would always go outside their comfort zone to kill any geniuses that could endanger them, but this group were no fools to fall for that trick.
Instead, they gathered and were discussing about who the person in the city was.
They would later find about the fact that there was no such person and the alert might be due to the destruction of the ritual.
The issues at that time would be that they would find that the student who destroyed the ritual was long gone, and also that they failed to see the changes in the mist quickly enough to report to their superiors, but that was in their future.
At present, they were thinking about how to salvage the failure.
---
No one was paying much attention to the thinning mist, as their minds were on something else.
When they finally pay attention, it will be too late.
In a way, Aaron’s luck played a vital role in this endeavour. If he were unlucky, everyone would have been attracted by the changes in the mist and with many searching, a few might have uncovered what had happened.
The information would have spread to everyone, no matter who found the information, which would make him an instant target, but as everyone was busy with their own problems at that moment, they didn’t see the changes.
This gave Aaron sufficient time to escape their scope. Even in the future, when they try to probe what happened, they wouldn’t be able to link that to Aaron.
