Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 234
Chapter 234: Chapter 234
It was not long before the captains arrived.
A young blonde boy stepped forward, "Sorry for the wait. We had work to complete. It looks like the groups were already assigned. My name is Erik Greyson from Duskmist Academy. The members assigned to me, please come forward", the boy spoke with a smile on his face.
Three students came forward after hearing those words, and one of them was who was muttering about the captains being late.
Erik Greyson smiled at them, "Follow me, there is so much to do", he smiled at them, more so at the one who was talking badly about the captains.
To many, it would be just a smile, but Aaron felt that it was a Devil’s smile if the devil exists.
There were stories of a devil in the world his past self belonged to, though he never saw the devil, but this smile he just saw was similar to the pictures that showed what the Devil’s Smile looks like.
"I am sure he knows that one badmouthed him before they arrived", Aaron thought to himself, which raised a new thought in his mind.
"The senior introduced himself as Erik Greyson, the same last name as the city commander, most likely connected to each other. Adding the fact that the blonde looked at the one who badmouthed him behind his back, there is a high chance that everything that we spoke was heard by them".
"It looks like some kind of test to see the competent and ones who would grumble at everything. This would make it easy for the higher-ups to easily divide the work, making the best use of the workforce that was given to them".
Thinking this, a small fear appeared in Aaron’s mind, but he quickly pushed that away.
He didn’t do anything wrong, and has no plans to do such in the future. There are two issues for him, though. He couldn’t let them know that he was at level 500. Unless his life or ones he cared about were in danger, he wouldn’t give everything he had.
The other was the tugging feeling he got from the mist. To find out the reason, he might have to venture out, but if the guards are watching the students all the time, that might not be possible.
He needs to be careful. Though everyone is human, many care for themselves. That might not be the worst part. The worst would be stealing from others and silencing them to keep the deed a secret.
If there is an item just like the ring, no one would let go of the chance to get that. It would be dangerous for Aaron if someone followed him.
Though by his estimation, there was no one stronger than him in the city watch. Even the commander felt weak. The only difference was that the commander had more battle experience, and he could use that battle experience to defeat him, even with limited strength and resources.
Even though that was the case, the only way he would be able to keep the equipment would be if there were no witnesses, but eliminating him would make him a criminal, possibly.
With how things were going, the disappearance of even a single person would be under scrutiny, and if that person was connected, then the situation would be even worse. The higher-ups may get themselves involved in the matter.
If he let the witness live, then news about that would spread, and when others get to know about it, there is a chance that they would seek it out in order to obtain from him, in one way or another.
Though it may be only useful for Death Professionals, many see only the credits that they might earn when they look at the equipment.
Whether he gets rid of the witness or not, he would find unnecessary trouble.
So, the best way was to find a time when no one was paying attention to him or couldn’t and seek whatever that was tugging him.
Soon his group was called by a dark-haired kid, who is their supposed capatain, Noah Kwinton.
"Aaron Skyhart from Dusk Academy, I heard about you. The topper of alliance exam and also the Inter-academy tournament. You may be a genius, but here my word is the law to you. Do you understand?" Noah shouted loudly, trying to establish himself as the Alpha.
"Oh yeah, he is a dick alright, just as that twit from first-year", Aaron thought in his mind, but to the outside he smiled and nooded, "Yes, Captain", he replied, showing fake feelings.
"Okay, follow me. I’llshow what you’ll work on from now", Noah spoke as he moved, and the group followed him.
---
The days went on.
For Aaron, who spent half a day every day levelling, the stay here was boring. All he had to do was work in the logistics.
The job given to his group was to keep counting numbers. They had to count the resources that they had at the end of the day. How much did they spend, and how many new resources were delivered to them?
The city was just a Tier-2 City. So, the exchange of resources among the guards is not much, but the divisions are the same as any city. It was quite boring to work on the tedious worksheets detailing all the expenses and earnings, detailing where they happened and when.
The work may be simple, but to someone like Aaron, it was quite burdensome. Though that may be the case, he didn’t complain.
One was that he was helping the world in this way, though not much, it was something.
Second, because of their captain, who, for some reason, started to pick on him, no matter what.
"He is either jealous because he was not a genius, or that brat might have complained about me to him", Aaron thought in his mind when he understood that Noah Kwinton was unusually strict and being a prick to only him.
Either of those could be true.
Dusk Academy stands in the top five, and that means almost anyone who was able to get a spot in the academy is a genius or born with a golden spoon.
Arnold Kwinton was someone born with a golden spoon, maybe even Naoh can be considered as such, but Aaron doesn’t know anything about him, except his name and the year he was in at the academy.
For people like that, it was quite common to look down on others, and many can’t see if someone surpasses them. They would get quite jealous, especially if that person didn’t have a powerful background.
As Noah can’t do anything that could cross the line, and Aaron has no intentions of giving an excuse for him to cross the line. Aaron was not stupid. He understood that Noah was pushing him so that he would do something that could be used as an excuse by Noah for crossing the line.
So, he just stuck to his work, without saying or doing anything more than required. He just did his job every day, and nothing else. He couldn’t as anything outside his assigned duties that could backfire on him, and he doesn’t want that.
As usual, that morning, he was doing his job, but then...
