Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 232
Chapter 232: Chapter 232
It took three days to reach Duskmist City from the academy. It was almost dusk when they reached the Duskmist City. freewёbnoνel.com
The convoy was attacked by monsters every once in a while, but the guards assigned to the convoy took care of them, as they were powerful than an average second-year student, which was the main cause of their delay.
The good thing was that the academy anticipated this, and they set out a few days before they were expected to arrive. It was not just this convoy, but every convoy that took second-year students to their assigned city or town, that started earlier than required for their arrival.
So there was no delay in their arrival. The group arrived a day before their original arrival date. So, the group has an extra day to spend getting to know Duskmist City before they have to start their work.

When Aaron first heard about the city’s name, he wondered why it was called Duskmist City. Every City’s name has a reason for its naming.
The Rock City from which Aaron hails from, was called that was because of two reasons. The rocks here are very strong, and it was not easy to break them. A Rank-4 or hundreds of Rank-3 beings are needed to break the rocks.
The entire wall that surrounds the city was made from this rock.
The second reason was that the first mayor of the city was of the Rock Element. He was the one who created the Rock Wall that protects the city from monster attacks. It was established almost two hundred years ago, but they still protect the city from the monsters.
So, though it was originally supposed to be named a different name, the people voted for a simple Rock City as its name.
For Dusk City, it might have to do with the Dusk Academy and why Dusk Academy was named like that, mostly because the academy is famous for Dark and Death Professionals.
There are many more such examples. This made Aaron think that there should be a reason why the cities were named as they were called now.
He thought of why the city was called Duskmist City, but couldn’t come up with a reason. It was only after arriving did he understood the meaning behind that. The reason was so simple.
At dusk, the city and a large area around it would be covered by mist. The mist stays all night, but disappears at dawn.
At least that’s what the driver of their vehicle told them, while introducing them to the city.
Aaron found that interesting. A mist that would appear only at night and disappear at night, who wouldn’t find that interesting? He wanted to know the reason behind that when he learned from the driver about the mist. He asked the driver about it, but what he got was nothing, which told him that getting to know the reason behind the cause might be difficult.
"Maybe I can find the reason behind that in one of the books in the City library or something", Aaron muttered to himself.
When the driver told him that he didn’t know the reason behind the mist, Aaron assumed that the information was restricted. He has no idea that even the officials have no idea about the uniqueness of the mist, which he would learn later on.
For some reason, Aaron felt a tug from the mist. He has only felt like that once, when he found the Death Devourer Ring back in the capital city.
The pull was fiercer than it was when he felt with the ring.
"There is something about this mist, but I can’t understand what it is. I need to find out what", Aaron thought in his mind.
Even muttering in such a small space would be enough for others to hear his words. Whatever is calling him, that was for him, and he has no wish to share that with others.
The Death Devourer Ring felt that it was a part of him, and he was sure that whatever was causing that feeling inside of him should be connected to the ring. There is no way he would be sharing such a thing with others.
If it were common equipment, he wouldn’t feel much about that, but whatever this ring is, whatever is calling and pulling him, that was not a common equipment. He was not even sure that it was equipment, but logically it should be, as he only felt that tug when he was near the ring, and never again.
Whatever it was, he was sure that it would increase his strength, which he is very much in need of.

The convoys stopped at the gates of the city for checking before they were allowed in.
With the troublesome situation around, anyone who enters the city is thoroughly checked to make sure that no criminal enters the city by chance. Even then, there were always some gaps that the criminals used to enter the city and cause chaos.
Even if they don’t enter the city directly, they would use the people present to cause chaos. This was why the guards were spread thin in the city, and the reason why students were sent to the city to help the guards.
The convoys stopped on a large ground, where the students were dropped off, and a small guard group was nearby to pick them up.
The guard group approached the students, and a burly man among them spoke, "Students of Dusk Academy, thank you for coming here to protect the city. I am Commander Greyson. All the guards of Duskmist City answer to me".
"I know that you are not actual guards, you have to behave like one starting tomorrow. You have to follow commands here, which I believe none have any training in, but with times like this, we don’t have time for proper training".
"In the morning, you would be assigned to your captains and team members. For the night, you can eat and rest".
"Follow them", the commander pointed out to the guards with him, "They would show you where to eat and rest, for the time of your stay here. Now, move along".
The guards started moving, and the students followed them.
"There is no discipline among them. Look at how they are moving, but there is nothing I can do. The dangers are increasing, and the need for human personnel is increasing day by day. I should be happy that I got some to share the burden of those guards", the commander sighed to himself.
There was nothing he could do, even if he was against the students becoming part of the City Guard. The security forces across the alliance were down like never before. Everywhere, there is a scarcity of proper security.
With the students here, the guards can concentrate on duty, while those students can do the scut work. It was the only positive with this assignment, and the commander could only take the win and make do with what he was given.
He knew that there are areas, where there were no such luxuries.
The students are too young to be deployed properly to the frontlines and places like that, evyerthing has to be done by those deployed there. From the low-end tedious work to the high-end guard duties.
Shaiking his head, he slowly followed the group.
