Chapter 89: Reduced to Powder

However, such a passive strategy was bound to come undone eventually, and as dusk transitioned into night, Old Man Xia's advantage only grew.

A loud clang rang out as Fang Che's sword was sent flying out of his hand, and he stumbled back in an unsteady fashion, his body completely exposed.

Old Man Xia plunged his saber toward Fang Che's chest with a triumphant smile, knowing that the battle was over.

He had to admit that Fang Che was an exceptional prodigy, but such a massive gap in cultivation base was not something that any amount of talent could bridge.

However, right as Old Man Xia swooped in for the killing blow, an almighty wave of baleful suddenly erupted out of Fang Che's body, and at the same time, a saber abruptly appeared in his grasp.

Old Man Xia was instantly rooted to the spot, bewildered by the fact that Fang Che was capable of mustering up such immense baleful qi when he had already been disarmed and was completely on the back foot.

His triumphant smile instantly stiffened, and he felt as if he had been plunged into a glacial pit as the tremendous wave of baleful qi swept over him.

He felt as though countless malicious ghosts had appeared before him, as if all of the people that he had killed throughout his life had come back to haunt him at once!

Caught completely off guard, his sense of rationality was compromised, and he frantically swung his saber wildly as he rushed back in retreat.

He knew that as long as he could retreat to a safe distance away from the baleful qi and regain his bearings, then the battle would once again be firmly under his control as he was still far superior to Fang Che in terms of overall power.

However, it was already too late.

In an all-out eruption, Fang Che unleashed the first fourth Heaven Loath Saber Techniques, namely Loatheful Blind Heavens, Loatheful Silent Heavens, Loatheful Heartless Heavens, and Loatheful Merciless Heavens in rapid succession.

The gates of hell sprang open in the graveyard as a blood-curdling howl rang out.

Old Man Xia desperately tried to defend himself with all his might, but his efforts proved to be futile. His left hand was the first to go, sliced off in a flash, and from there, more and more injuries were inflicted upon him.

Chunks of flesh were sliced off his body one after another as if he were being subjected to a death by a thousand cuts.

Finally, Fang Che let loose a thunderous roar as he rammed his shoulder into Old Man Xia's chest, sending him crashing into Ren Chang's tombstone, only hanging onto life by a thread.

His arms and legs were all missing, while Fang Che's shoulders, chest, and abdomen were also all riddled with profusely bleeding wounds.

Despite his terrible condition, he remained on his feet and raced toward Ren Chang's grave, only allowing him to stop and catch his breath once he was certain that Old Man Xia was no longer in any condition to resist.

He was so exhausted that he could barely keep himself upright, and he had to use his saber as a crutch as he asked in a hoarse voice, "Are you alright, Administrator Zhao?"

Zhao Ying'er was slowly recovering thanks to the Cloud Spirit Pill, but her self-inflicted sword wound had severed several arteries, so she was still unable to move.

"I... I think I'm fine now," she replied in a feeble voice.

Fang Che was very relieved to hear this, and he continued to catch his breath as the residual medicinal power of the Cloud Spirit Pill slowly mended his battered body.

Finally, he limped his way over to Old Man Xia, who was staring up at him in despair and incredulity.

"How... How is this possible..."

Fang Che slammed the back of the saber against what little remained of Old Man Xia's severed arm, instantly drawing another blood-curdling howl.

He then dragged Old Man Xia onto a large rock before stuffing several healing pills into his mouth so that he could prolong his torment.

From there, he slammed the back of his saber down onto Old Man Xia's bones inch by inch, using the rock beneath him as a chopping board.

"You better not faint, you piece of shit!"

Fang Che brought the back of his saber down over and over again, driving Old Man Xia mad with excruciating agony.

He would fall into the blissful embrace of unconsciousness one moment, only to be jerked awake by indescribable pain an instant later, and the torturous cycle repeated itself over and over again.

Fang Che was so exhausted that he was on the verge of passing out, but he continued to meticulously shatter Old Man Xia's body inch by inch.

"You think you can come and desecrate the Graveyard of Heroes? I'm going to make you regret you were ever born!"

Fang Che would've granted Old Man Xia a swift death anywhere else, but the latter's encroachment of the sacred Graveyard of Heroes had driven Fang Che into an almighty rage.

Even as Fang Che was gasping for air, he continued to meticulously dismantle Old Man Xia's body bit by bit, his hand as steady as ever, even as the rest of his body trembled from overexertion.

Old Man Xia didn't even have the energy to scream anymore, and he wanted to kill himself, but was powerless to do so without any of his limbs.

"Don't bite your tongue! We all know that's not actually going to kill you! If you keep your tongue, at least you can curse me before you die! What's your name?"

Old Man Xia had fallen unconscious.

Fang Che jolted him awake with another heavy blow.

"What's your name?"

"His name is Old Man Xia. He's the shopkeeper of a wine shop, and he told me earlier that he's a member of the Church of Light," Zhao Ying'er replied.

She struggled to her feet as she spoke, then slowly shuffled her way toward Fang Che to help him.

"Old Man Xia! You ever heard of death by obliteration? I'm going to obliterate your body bit by bit until you've been reduced to powder! I'm going to inflict so much pain on you that even in your next life, you'll be too traumatized to even consider becoming a demonic church member!"

At this point, all Old Man Xia could do was beg for mercy with tears and blood streaming out of his eyes.

"Please... Kill me... Just kill me..."

However, his pleas fell upon deaf ears, and Fang Che continued to work tirelessly, only finally smashing Old Man Xia's head into bits after all of his other bones had been crushed into powder.

A plume of black smoke rose up into the air, while a cloud of white mist appeared over the Graveyard of Heroes.

The souls of the deceased Protectionists that were buried here seemed to have emerged within the mist to watch the show with glee.

With his vision fading, Fang Che felt as if he could see Ren Chang and Kong Xiang dressed in wedding attire, watching him with wide smiles on their faces.

Looks like you're making up for lost time in the afterlife!

A warm smile appeared on Fang Che's face as he gasped for air, his injuries still slowly healing thanks to the effects of the Cloud Spirit Pill.

He was swaying unsteadily on his feet as he turned to Ren Chang's grave and chuckled, "There goes another day, Old Man Ren. How was that for some nighttime entertainment? It's not every day that you get to see a demonic church member brutally tortured to death!"

"Are you alright, Fang Che?" Zhao Ying'er asked as she approached him with a hand clasped over her chest.

"I'm fine," Fang Che replied with a smile.

"Your face!"

Zhao Ying'er looked so heartbroken at the sight of the wounds on Fang Che's face that judging from her reaction alone, one could be forgiven for thinking that the world was about to come to an end.

"It's fine, I'll be all healed up in a couple of days," Fang Che said in a nonchalant manner.

At the same time, he couldn't help but feel a little exasperated by female logic. It seemed that injuries could be sustained anywhere else, but even a tiny gash in the face was just cause to go into a state of catatonic mourning.

"Let's go," Fang Che said to Zhao Ying'er after extending a parting bow toward the graveyard.

"Aren't we going to clean up this place?"

"Let's just leave it as is. I'm sure our seniors will enjoy the sight of a demonic church member's brutalized body."

At this point, Fang Che was starting to feel much better.

The effects of the Cloud Spirit Pill that he had consumed during battle had already worn off, and he could make a full recovery by taking another one, but it felt like a massive waste.

However, Zhao Ying'er was clearly overthinking the situation. In her eyes, a pill that was able to save her from an injury that would've otherwise spelled certain death was definitely something that Fang Che didn't have many of.

In fact, there was a very good chance that he had fed her the last one. Otherwise, why wouldn't he have taken another one when his body was still riddled with so many injuries.

With that in mind, she was very touched, and she immediately offered to bandage him up.

Fang Che initially brushed her off, but he could only see that Zhao Ying'er would've burst into tears had he refused, so he could only relent.

Zhao Ying'er began carefully attending to his injuries, and the rather affectionate scene left Fang Che feeling rather uncomfortable, so he began rambling to make himself feel less awkward.

"It's a good thing that bastard missed your heart. Otherwise, you would've been beyond saving."

"He wasn't the one who stabbed me in the chest. I did it myself."

"Why?" Fang Che asked in a bewildered manner. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"For us women, there are certain fates even crueler than death," Zhao Ying'er explained as her body began to tremble. "I'm only a ninth-rank General, so I was completely at his mercy. I was already very fortunate to have even been able to land a lethal blow on myself."

"I should've tortured that bastard a bit more!" Fang Che spat through gritted teeth.

Zhao Ying'er couldn't help but burst into laughter.

"How else could you have tortured him? You already smashed him up into mincemeat and powder! I don't even chop my garlic that fine when I'm cooking!"

Fang Che was rather bewildered to hear this.

You chop your garlic? I just eat the cloves whole...
