Chapter 1146: Chapter 1146: C-level Assassin

Half a month later, atop a sand dune somewhere in Xuanmo State, Chen Nan slowly opened his eyes and exhaled a breath of stale air. Now all the injuries on his body had completely healed.

In fact, due to the effect of the "Heaven-breaking Body," his physique further improved. After all, the previous battle with Deacon Qian had almost cost him his life.

But that battle left a hidden danger.

"Hiss~"

Suddenly, Chen Nan took a sharp breath and clutched his head, waves of piercing pain making his headache so severe it felt as if it was splitting. It took a while before the pain slowly subsided.

These days, he would occasionally feel a headache, due to the severe damage to his Divine Soul. Deacon Qian’s Netherworld Karmic Fire truly made him miserable, and the resulting soul injury was even more severe than he had imagined.

However, there is no good way to repair the Divine Soul; other than slowly recovering over time, he could consume Heavenly and Earthly Treasures that repair the soul.

But such Heavenly and Earthly Treasures are incredibly precious. Even just hearing about them is rare, let alone obtaining them.

"Do I have to endure this injury constantly?" Chen Nan frowned deeply. This hidden danger was practically lethal for his identity as an assassin.

If he suddenly had a headache during an assassination attempt, he might get discovered and expose his whereabouts.

"Forget it, let’s go back and take a look first." Chen Nan sighed and headed directly toward the Forget Sorrow Forest Secret Realm.

For more than half a month, he had been healing his wounds, and didn’t even undertake any assassin missions in Purple Ruins State, worried that Deacon Qian’s death might cause him trouble.

So he healed all the way back to Xuanmo State, wanting to first gather some information. If the Yama Hall pursued the matter, his identity might get exposed.

Thus, upon returning to the Forget Sorrow Forest Secret Realm, Chen Nan went directly to the inn and met the assassins gathered there.

Some assassins had just completed their missions and returned, while others were indulging themselves here. The inn had more areas in the back designated for assassins to have a better experience.

Most of the spirit stones earned by assassins completing missions were spent in the Forget Worry Inn.

But undeniably, the service in Forget Worry Inn was indeed very thorough. No matter what was needed, as long as one could pay the spirit stones, they could get it.

"How come Little Brother is willing to return?"

Behind the counter, Lin Rou saw Chen Nan and gracefully walked over. As she swayed her waist, you could hear the sound of assassins swallowing around her.

"Came back to take a look," Chen Nan smiled. "Sister, have you heard any news lately?"

Lin Rou smiled faintly, picked up the wine pot on the table to pour Chen Nan a cup of wine, and the fragrance on her body wafted into Chen Nan’s nose. She slowly said, "Of course I’ve heard, most of it is actually about you, Little Brother."

"You don’t know, but the outer door stewards from other states all ran to the Main Hall to complain, saying you stole their missions, causing the low-level assassins to have nothing to eat."

Chen Nan pursed his lips and sneered, "If they have nothing to eat, it’s their own lack of ability. How dare they blame it on me?"

Lin Rou comforted, "Don’t worry, no one blames you. It’s just strange that the outer door steward in Purple Ruins State and three C-level assassins all disappeared, and the Main Hall has sent a new steward there."

"Oh?" Chen Nan raised his eyebrow, pretending to ask, "Such a thing happened?"

He deliberately looked into Lin Rou’s eyes, wanting to see if she knew anything, but her eyes were profoundly deep, showing no emotion at all.

"I heard Little Brother also went to Purple Ruins State. As soon as you left, the steward there disappeared. Does Little Brother know anything?" Lin Rou curiously asked.

Chen Nan’s heart sank. He wasn’t sure if the woman in front of him knew something or was trying to probe him, but he would never admit to such a thing.

"I don’t know anything. I just want to quickly become an A-level assassin to complete the agreement with you, Sister."

"Then Little Brother has to work hard," Lin Rou covered her mouth with a light laugh, then gracefully returned to the counter, swaying her waist quite exaggeratedly.

"Truly an enchantress," Chen Nan muttered to himself, then began to ponder. From what Lin Rou said, it seemed the Yama Hall had no intention of digging further into Deacon Qian’s death.

If that were the case, he wouldn’t need to worry.

After staying for a little while, Chen Nan quickly left Forget Worry Inn, returning to Purple Ruins State through the Teleportation Array to complete the tasks he had taken.

Though his divine soul was damaged, the highest target of these missions was at the peak of the Foundation Establishment, so there wouldn’t be any issue even if he attacked openly.

Another half month passed, and Chen Nan completed all his missions and returned to the Immortal Music Medical Hall in Purple Ruins State, where he found the outer door steward had indeed been replaced.

This time, it was a middle-aged man who looked lean, with a thick scholarly aura around him, very much a mundane scholar.

"You are 9527, right? I’ve heard of you. Never thought you completed all the C-level tasks in Nine Provinces. Simply unbelievable."

Chen Nan nodded, not speaking. After the lesson from Deacon Qian, he was now much more cautious.

"Of course, C-level tasks are among the least of all tasks, since spending a large sum of spirit stones to kill a Foundation Establishment cultivator isn’t worthwhile."

The scholar didn’t mind Chen Nan’s attitude and continued, "Once you ascend to C-level, you’ll realize tasks are endless... hey, don’t leave yet!"

Seeing Chen Nan was about to leave, the scholar hurried forward to stop him.

"Something up?"

Chen Nan slightly raised an eyebrow, becoming vigilant. People who treated him differently likely had an issue.

The scholar waved his hand and took a token from his bosom, handing it to Chen Nan, "Nothing major, you just forgot something."

Taking the token, Chen Nan found his number on it, only it was upgraded from D-level to C-level. Having done so much, his rank had finally improved.

As a C-level assassin, he could take on tasks involving assassinating low-level Golden Core cultivators which had the most tasks available, so he wasn’t worried about earning merit.

He had now taken another step toward redeeming the "Heaven-Slaying Art."

After thanking the scholar, Chen Nan headed back to Xuanmo State, arriving at Yun Gu’s small courtyard. Besides two little children, there was also a little golden monkey running over.

The little monkey was Shi Zhongsheng, whom Chen Nan had gotten earlier, but even after keeping it for a while, he hadn’t found anything special about it.

He had to go kill someone, and carrying a monkey was inconvenient, so he left it here with Yun Gu.

This time, he had bought a Spirit Beast Bag, which could store any demon beasts he had tamed, making it quite convenient.

Just then, a severe headache struck, causing Chen Nan to turn pale and cold sweat to bead on his forehead. Noticing this, Yun Gu realized for sure that Chen Nan was hurt.

"What have you been doing outside? If it’s dangerous, don’t do it. I can steal things to support you just the same!"

Chen Nan couldn’t help but smile wryly, then his eyes turned resolute once more.

"There are some things I must do!"
