Daily life of a cultivation judge-Chapter 996: Verifying the contract
Yang Qing couldn’t help but let out a sigh as his gaze fell on the two sides. They looked like they were ready to come to blows. The amount of hate that was in the room was so palpable that even Fan Cai who had no idea of the history between the two sides looked extremely tense and nervous. He had been gulping down his tea at a far quicker pace than before.
His mother had tried to warn him off a few times, but he heard none of it. He was the weakest person present and the youngest and he was also the person who had triggered this whole thing into motion.
With the amount of pressure he was under, his mother was out of her mind if she thought he would lay down the one thing that helped him cope with the current environment.
He had tried to ask his mother about her history with the elder of the Yu Clan, but in typical response, his mother told him off.
"Since you won’t give me answers to assuage my nerves, I can only seek comfort at the bottom of this kettle," thought Fan Cai, his gaze trained on the kettle before him.
...
"Now with the introductions out of the way, let’s settle the matter at hand, which is the contract.." Yang Qing said, pulling the attention of the group to himself.
"Envoy Li Tian, if you don’t mind, can you verify that this contract was issued by the Silver Vermilion Rose Pavilion and that the terms indicated are as was agreed upon during the time of formulation and issuance," Yang Qing said as he passed on the contract to the silver-haired young man with the polite and amiable demeanor about him.
Li Tian gracefully accepted the contract with a nod as he reached out for the emblem of the red rose embroidered on his robes.
A delicate miniature seal the size of a seed was produced from the fingertip of his index finger, it flickered as it embedded itself into the rose emblem. The rose emblem rippled like a slimy substance, to which Li Tian gently pulled it off, and as he did, it transformed from a stringy viscous-like substance and solidified into a red rose that shimmered with an almost metallic luster.
Li Tian pressed the red rose over the red rose insignia branded on the contract Yang Qing had handed to him. Immediately the insignia and the red rose made contact, silver-white flames were produced from the red rose in Li Tian’s hands, which dissolved into the rose insignia in the contract.
The entire contract lit up in silver flames which congealed together to form a silver flamed rose that had countless glyphs and ancient scripts within it.

The eyes of everyone in the courtroom turned solemn at the appearance of those flames, glyphs, and ancient scripts. Though the fluctuations were gentle, almost soothing, to those in the palace realm, they could feel the transcendent power contained within those scripts, glyphs, and flames.
Whether it was Li Tian, or Elder Yu Hui who had the highest cultivation base of everyone present, or Fan Ha, who followed them closely, down to even Yang Qing, Yu Gen, and Xia Ting, they all had solemn looks on their faces because of the power contained within those flames. It felt like they were coming into contact with the secrets of the heavens.
After a few seconds, the flames disappeared, triggered by a flick of Li Tian’s hands.
"The contract is authentic. It was issued by our pavilion and the terms are valid too," Li Tian said as he handed the contract back to Yang Qing. In the process of doing so, the red rose from before had already returned to its original position on the chest area of his robes.
Yang Qing’s gaze fell on it briefly before returning to the contract.
"Thank you for your assistance, Envoy Li Tian,"
"It’s as I should,"
They both nodded at each other in gratitude.
"Now with the matter of the contract’s validity already verified, we can move to the main matter.
As per the details of this contract, Miss Fan Ha offered herself to serve as a guardian for the Starlight Lake Sect for 23,000 years. Is that right, Miss Fan Ha?" asked Yang Qing, directing his question at the grey-haired taciturn lady.
"It is," she curtly answered.
"In exchange for Miss Fan Ha’s assistance, the Starlight Lake Sect would offer resources and support commensurate with someone of her abilities, which would continue in perpetuity for the entirety of the contract, provided it doesn’t subject the sect to ruin. Is that correct, Sect Master Meng Jiayi and Sect Master Xie Yuan?"
"It is," answered Sect Master Xie Yuan as she nodded her head politely.
Yang Qing’s attention drifted over to the elderly former sect master, who had put down his wine cup with his attention falling on Fan Ha. There was sorrow, pain, and regret in his eyes.
Fan Ha remained unmoved, still wearing that same calm look with her attention fixed on the cup before her. It was like she didn’t notice that Meng Jiayi was looking at her.
"Why are you so stubborn?" asked Meng Jiayi with a soft tone that was filled with anger.
"I could say the same thing about you all," she calmly retorted back, her response drawing an exasperated sigh from Meng Jiayi.
"Yuan’er talk to her. Maybe that thick skull of hers will listen to you,"
"You know she won’t.." Xie Yuan said with a bitter smile, as she cast a look filled with guilt toward Fan Ha.
Elder Yui who sat opposite them had a contemptuous smile on his face, wearing the look of someone taking great comfort in other people’s misfortune.
The targets of his contempt were to absorbed in their emotion to notice it, thus his jeering smile went largely unnoticed.
"The terms are correct," Meng Jiay finally answered with a resigned sigh.
