"So you can imagine with how far they had fallen, even if they had at some point had core formation experts in their history, producing a foundation establishment cultivator would have proved difficult bordering on impossible, because of what they were working with.

Yet against all odds they did, and someone with quasi-blue grade pillars no less. They had managed to subvert all odds, and if things went well, with quasi-blue grade pillars, that sect member was more or less guaranteed to reach the core formation realm.

That sect may not have had the resources to help him reach that far, but once they got ranked status, they would indirectly have those resources by having him enroll with us using the enrollment slot handed to them as a rank five sect.

For those three years with us, even if he doesn’t reach the core formation realm, provided he is diligent, he is guaranteed to reap a lot that would serve him even after he leaves.

The sect’s resurgence was almost guaranteed provided nothing happened to him, so you can imagine how it was for the sect to produce someone like him. Some of them could already see it, them regaining their lost honor back and when I went there it was exactly that.

Everyone from the servants to the prominent members of the sect was in jubilant tears when I came for the assessment, and it being my first time, I was easily swallowed in the atmosphere that I let my guard down when I was there.

I didn’t notice that one of the servants was, in fact, a peak-stage core formation expert, with two other ninth-stage core formation experts masquerading themselves as members of the sect.

They had disguised themselves seamlessly that I didn’t notice it until it was too late. However, if I had been alert, I would have picked up on the subtle clues left by those two ninth-stage core formation experts.

Despite the talismans and the treasures they used to disguise themselves, I was at the sixth stage, if I was keen enough, with the abilities at my disposal, even if they had higher realms, I would have been able to pick up something, but I didn’t," Yang Qing said as he sighed lightly.

"I came close to getting killed, and I would have had the Order, not prepared me for it. For that bad luck. I reacted accordingly and I managed to safeguard my life while those three experts lost theirs.." he added as the memories of that day flashed in his eyes, though the getting killed part was a slight exaggeration on his part. He had been caught unawares though.

That peak stage core formation expert had honed his craft as a stealth killer and would have taken Yang Qing’s life had Yang Qing not been a paranoid cultivator who always plastered a gold turtle shield talisman on his body which needed just the tiniest reaction to trigger.

When that expert threw a needle at him, coated in countless poisons that would have likely killed a quasi-palace realm expert if caught and maybe incapacitated a weak first-stage palace realm expert, Yang Qing’s talisman reacted and blocked the needle.

He never noticed the needle until it was a few inches from his chest. Because of the immunity to over ten thousand poisons and miasma, his physique gave him, he would have been okay against the toxins used, but the needle would have injured him.

The fear of almost dying was something the Institute had perfectly drilled into them from the death duels they had against the prisoners, and when the Instructors tortured them mercilessly, there was also that dreaded purple grade test.

He wasn’t unfamiliar with almost getting killed, having undergone it countless times over, so his reflex reactions kicked in as he slammed his attackers with talismans one after the other, buying himself enough time to engage them.

With his talents, accumulation, and resources, even if he was ganged on, he wasn’t at the slightest disadvantage.

On a normal day as a sixth-stage core formation, he could have easily trounced the two ninth-stage core formation experts even without relying on external items. He had a superior core to them, the highest core there was, a purple grade core, he had a peerless jade physique, add to that a purple grade art, gold grade art, and a couple of blue grade arts in his arsenal, and an accumulated experience of fighting some of the most battle-hardened criminals with a lower cultivation base for four years, and add to that the Instructors who occasionally sparred with them to keep them humble, there was no way Yang Qing would lose to two ninth stage core formation experts, even with a peak stage core formation expert helping them.

If he fought without external items, even with the peak stage core formation expert present, with the element of surprise removed, he could have dragged the fight, and the longer it dragged the better his advantages would have become, especially when it came to qi capacity, and his ability to regenerate.

But Yang Qing wasn’t stupid enough to drag a fight he could win in the shortest amount of possible if he used everything at his disposal. The pride of only using your base strength and dragging things out to see if the opponent had any trump cards was foolishness he wouldn’t do. If his fists could end that battle swiftly, he would use that, if the fist wasn’t enough, he would throw a few thousand talismans, artifacts, and whatever else he had his hands on to finish the fight as soon as possible, and that was what he did.

He slapped the leader of the attackers, the peak stage core formation expert with seventeen talismans that contained up to 80% of his strength which packed quite a punch, and then used the ensuing chaos to puncture through the two ninth stage core formation experts using his purple lightning bamboo which at the time was as sturdy as a monarch grade weapon and just as lethal too.

Three minutes was all it took to end it all, but Yang Qing felt it was still three minutes too many.

"It turned out that those three people who attacked me were retainers of a clan whose clan leader and son got imprisoned by the Order for various things that they did. The clan leader had been a palace realm expert and the sole palace realm expert of the clan. With him imprisoned, their enemies came and looted the dying camel, and the clan fragmented.

Those three attackers hoped to entrap someone from the Order and use them to gain information on the layout of the Order so they could rescue their patriarch. If it proved impossible then they hoped to kill as many people from the Order as they could, and they planned perfectly how to do that.

The foundation establishment member in that sect was the peak core formation expert’s disciple they had trained up solely for the purpose of luring in someone from the Order, and that member was cognizant of what his master was after, and yet he still went on and even supported the plan despite knowing the consequence that would befall his sect as a result of said actions.

I had nothing to do with the imprisonment of their clan leader yet they still targeted me as though I did. Every enmity, and grudge out there, whether we are directly involved in it or not, as long as it involves someone from the Order, we all carry that burden and price as though we are the perpetrators.

If Ma Ling joins the Order, she will inherit that burden, some of those burdens may come from me, on a case or matter I handled, it may come from a fellow peer of hers, or even from a senior in the domain realm.

If she joins.." Yang Qing said, his face grave and tone heavy.

"She will bear the burden of all the grudges the Order has accumulated since its inception. The Order will help her carry some of it, and will also train her to handle some of it, but bad luck finds us all.
