Daily life of a cultivation judge-Chapter 928: Rain blade
Jiang Huang took a slow but deep breath to calm his nerves. Even though he knew whatever decision he made, was his to make and the court would respect, some part of him couldn’t help but feel he would be disappointing the court somehow by choosing the path of least resistance and letting go of the whole thing.
He knew the thought was deluded, and it was his vindictive side egging him, but still, he couldn’t shake the feeling he was disappointing the court somehow by not challenging Lin Duyi and Yao De to a life-and-death duel.
Feeling calm enough to make his statement, Jiang Huang lowered his gait slightly to bow his head which brought him tremendous pain, but he marshaled through it.
"I would like to thank the Order for allowing me to air out my grievances. It has brought me greater joy and peace than I could ever repay you.
I will never forgive, nor forget what those two did to me but coming here, and doing this has given me more than I expected to get out of this.
Purpose.." Jiang Huang said as he raised his head with clarity and an air of serenity around him.
"I now have something to live for, and all this is thanks to the Order for giving me the space to speak and voice things I had long been terrified to speak out openly. For that, I am truly grateful.." Jiang Huang said as he bowed once more. A deeper bow this time, before getting back up again.
"Having already said all that I could, I have decided that this is more than enough for me and let the matter end here.
I would like to ask for the court’s understanding and forgiveness in this matter.." Jiang Huang said with a hint of pleading in his tone.
Yang Qing couldn’t help but smile as he saw Jiang Huang’s current look. From the crazed deranged look he walked in with, he would never have thought he would see that same person look this way. Humble, awkwardly nervous, and most of all, a look of peace in his eyes.
Still wearing a smile, Yang Qing said,
"There’s no need to ask for forgiveness, Supreme Elder Jiang Huang. The court is here only to deliberate and mediate.
Whatever choice you make, the court will adhere to it. It is why we are here.."
Yang Qing’s response brought relief to Jiang Huang who cupped his fist as he bowed slightly in gratitude.
The old supreme elder wasn’t the only one to look relieved, as Lin Duyi and Yao De both heaved sighs of relief.
They were not afraid of Jiang Huang, but rather the potential of what the Order would do on his behalf. With him declaring the matter dealt with, they didn’t have to worry about the Orders take on the matter.
Because of it, the cowardly Lin Duyi got enough courage to step outside of his mother’s protection, though he still held her hand. Yang Qing was still in the courtroom after all, and his experience for the past two months when he had been under custody at the Yellow Plains County had been anything but pleasant.
All he wanted was for the case to be declared closed. He had already sworn to never leave the Golden Dragon Mountain ever again. He would devote himself wholly to cultivation.
He was already 347 years old, and despite all the resources afforded to him, he was only a first-stage palace realm. A three-hundred-year-old palace realm expert could still be considered a talented figure, but such an achievement was underwhelming when one considered Lin Duyi’s station in life.
He was the child of two domain experts, which was already an advantage in itself because the progeny of two experts guaranteed that his base talent would not be a mediocre one and there was even a chance he might be born with some type of natural physique.
Lin Duyi wasn’t lucky in that regard, but he lucked out when it came to natural talent and comprehension.
Because of his background, being the darling child of the former first princess of a rank one Empire in the Silver Leaf Empire, and the powerful founder of a rank two merchant company, Lin Duyi was born into the lap of luxury. He didn’t have to want for anything.
Whatever he wanted, he would get. He never had to work hard for anything, which resulted in him having a rather indolent nature when it came to making an effort and this included even when it came to cultivation.
Because of his talent, his bare minimum effort landed him top-tier blue-grade pillars that had a few stripes of gold in them. Countless cultivators all around would have to pour everything that they could to achieve normal blue grade pillars, and still fall short of it, while Lin Duyi made his achievement without even trying.
His talent went to waste because he never really tried, and he ended up taking 347 years to reach the palace realm. If it was anyone else in his shoes, with his talent, born to such powerful parents, they would have likely achieved the absolute peak of each realm, from purple grade pillars to purple cores, to reaching the palace realm, all in a fifth or a sixth of the time Lin Duyi took. Yang Qing had even done it with a lesser period. He did it in just 23 years and there were monsters like Zhang Qingge who did it at 17.
With all he had going for him, taking 347 years to reach the palace realm, in some circles could be viewed as disgraceful, but Lin Duyi never cared much about it. He enjoyed traveling around the various regions that had their branches and soaking in the look of being fawned over like an emperor.
While his father wasn’t that strict with him at home, he always had to regulate his actions, and it wasn’t just his father. The headquarters was filled with countless other figures like the two founders, their disciples, his father’s disciples, some of the high-ranking executives, and other personnel that were valued highly to be stationed at the headquarters.
Despite his background, he could never act how he wanted at the headquarters. It was a place filled with crouching tigers and hidden dragons, however, outside at the other branches, it was a different thing. There, Lin Duyi was treated with the same deference as the founders of the pavilion. Lin Duyi grew to become intoxicated with such a feeling, and it wasn’t long before he transferred that feeling from the branch personnel to the regions that housed those branches.
He would exert his prestige and dominance in those regions. He was careful in the regions he chose, only choosing places he knew his father and the rest didn’t care much about, places like the Red Maple Empire. He enjoyed the servile look Duan Hu, and the current emperor gave him every time he was there. Making a servant out of an emperor who controlled the lives of hundreds of millions gave him a satisfaction that he couldn’t quite put in words.

It was to the point that he sacrificed his cultivation time to pursue that satisfaction, but now after the experience he had. Being soundly defeated in a humiliating manner by Yang Qing, and the callous treatment he received when he was imprisoned, that experience had stirred a level of fear in him.
He had already made up his mind he would not be leaving the mountain, not unless he reached the late stages of the palace realm, and even then, he had decided to be careful with his actions.
"But if something happened to them, I may have to amend my plans.." thought Lin Duyi as a malevolent light flashed in his eyes as he did a quick scan of the courtroom before his gaze quickly turned to normal, worried that the two domain experts from the Order could read his thoughts.
But unlike Lin Duyi who thought everything was done and dealt with, Lin Guiren and his wife had the opposite reaction, especially Cai Hong, who tightened her grip on Lin Duyi’s hand with her gaze never leaving Yang Qing. It looked like she was preparing herself for a battle.
..
After assuaging Jiang Huang of his worries, Yang Qing didn’t look like he was turned after he waved his sleeve and a long sword appeared. The moment it did, Jiang Huang’s entire frame trembled involuntarily as his widened, and mouth opened widely, with a look of disbelief washing over him.
"Iss, Is that?" he asked as he stammered, while slowly stretching his hands before pulling it back with an overwhelming look of regret.
But even as he pulled his hand back, he couldn’t tear his affectionate eyes from the long sword in Yang Qing’s hands. It was a long sword sheathed in a wooden scabbard that had a blue hue to it, that released a subtle scent of wood and water courtesy of the water willow wood used to create.
The scabbard was intricately inlaid with blue iris stems that released a gentle ethereal blue glow that went perfectly with the properties of the scabbard. The glow looked like crystallized dew atop a branch.
The whole length from the scabbard to the hilt was about 45 inches with a girth of about three and a half fingers.
The reason that Jiang Huang was so overwhelmed with emotions was that was his sword, the sword that had accompanied him from some no-name disciple to a supreme elder, the very sword he had lost to Lin Duyi and Yao De.
He didn’t want to ask for it earlier, because felt ashamed to. Not with what he did. But seeing it now he was conflicted as he was bombarded with two extreme emotions. One was guilt, and the other was longing. The latter feeling became more prominent when he felt a weak fluctuation coming from the sword that resonated with his soul.
"This?!" he muttered as his gaze widened further, looking even more dumbfounded as he weakly turned his attention to Lin Duyi, only to find the person in question clicking his tongue with a resentful look on his face as his gaze fell on the sword in Yang Qing’s hands.
Jiang Huang instantly felt his rage from earlier build-up before he forcibly contained it by borrowing strength from the resonant feeling in his soul, turning his attention back to the sword.
"Rain blade.." he muttered as he choked up with emotion, his eyes cloudy with tears.
