Daddy, You Got The Wrong Mommy-Chapter 291: Like Someone With a Mental Disorder
"What upset you?"
Hunter frowned. Seeing Evelyn like this, he obviously couldn’t ignore Eleanor’s words and act like nothing happened.
"She..."
"Dad, please talk to Tom. Ask him to marry me. I really love him, I can’t live without him."
Evelyn broke free from Eleanor’s grip, rushed to Hunter, and tightly held his hand.
So, it’s about feelings?
Hunter seemed to understand.
"Samantha, love can’t be forced. If the Hawke Family boy doesn’t like you, just let it go. Forced love is never sweet."
It seems Damon Hawke ultimately chose Elara Don and clarified things with Samantha.
"No! How could he not like me?"
Evelyn was agitated, "Everyone says first love is unforgettable. I was his first love; he can’t possibly forget me. Dad, I want to be with him. Please help me, please!"
In her intensity, Evelyn gripped Hunter’s hand very tightly.
Hunter frowned even deeper.
Looking her up and down, seeing her somewhat crazed expression, he couldn’t help but ask, "Samantha, what’s wrong? Are you sick?"
She seemed like she might have a mental illness.
"I’m not sick, you’re sick! Your whole family is sick!"
Evelyn retorted angrily, looking at Hunter’s darkened expression, and shouted, "Dad, am I still your daughter? You don’t care about me at all! Why won’t you go find Tom for me? Even Uncle cares more about me! I’ll go talk to Uncle and ask him to help me!"
Seeing Evelyn about to rush out, Eleanor was both anxious and guilty.
She stepped forward and slapped her hard.
"Samantha, calm down!"
What nonsense was this child talking?
If Hunter discovered anything, it would be terrible.
The slap stunned Evelyn.
She stared blankly at Eleanor, tears streaming down her face.
Eleanor, feeling heartbroken, hugged her and carefully avoided the shattered pieces on the floor, sitting her down on the sofa.
"Okay, Samantha, don’t worry. Let’s think of a way slowly, alright?"
Evelyn said nothing, just silently wept.
Eleanor embraced her and looked at Hunter standing aside, "Henry, stop standing there. Get the servants to clean up. Samantha’s just too emotional; I’ll comfort her."
Hunter watched Evelyn’s tear-streaked face, hesitating to speak.
After a moment, he turned to call for the servants to clean up the room.
His daughter’s earlier state really did look like a mental illness.
He truly had not been a very competent father.
It seemed he had paid little attention to his daughter all her life.
Indeed, he didn’t care for her as much as his brother did.
After Hunter left, Eleanor looked at Evelyn with a face full of pity.
"Alright, Samantha, let’s not think about anything now. Get a good sleep, and we’ll deal with it tomorrow, okay?"
Evelyn said nothing, let Eleanor tend to her medication, her eyes vacant.
The Hawke Family’s old residence.
After taking Evelyn’s call, Damon Hawke headed to the children’s room.
The two little ones were video chatting with Elara Don.
The mother and sons were whispering to each other.
Damon walked over with gentle eyes and took the tablet from them.
"Alright, your time with Mom is over; the next is my time."
The two little ones looked at him, dissatisfaction in their eyes.
Damon raised an eyebrow and asked, "What’s this? You don’t want me to bond with your mom? Don’t you want a little sister soon?"
The two exchanged a glance, their big eyes rolling.
"Alright, we’ll sleep then. Dad, have a good chat with Mom," Dominic said, his voice sweet and childish.
"Hmm, sleep well."
Damon closed the door, his eyes full of laughter.
When Elara gets back, if the boys still compete for attention, he would just use this trick.
It would work every time.
"Don’t flatter yourself. Who wants to bond with you? Don’t forget, we’re still broken up," Elara’s voice playfully protested from the screen.
Damon entered the study, chuckling, "Wife, let me tell you some good news, then decide if you still want to end our breakup."
He needed to tell Elara that James Lee had confessed.
She would be pleased.
"What good news?" Elara blinked, curiously asking.
"Give me some sweetness first."
Damon pointed to his thin lips.
Elara looked at him amused, "If I give you sweetness through the screen, don’t you think it’s like scratching through boots, more ticklish?"
True!
He could see her but couldn’t hold her; only his poor brothers would suffer.
Damon sighed, "Wife, won’t you come back?"
"Hurry, what’s the good news?"
Elara inquired, her curiosity piqued.
"Alright, I’ll tell you. But you owe me that sweetness and have to repay me when you return."
"You’re so nagging; will you say it or not?"
Elara teased with a laugh.
Damon chuckled softly then turned serious, "About your mom, it’s clear now. It was orchestrated by James Lee..."
As Damon narrated, Elara’s smile faded.
So, James Lee hired someone to murder?
Just to hide his secret?
Her mother, how tragic?
"Wife, that’s how it happened. Don’t be sad; if your mom knew, she would be at peace."
Damon gently consoled her after finishing the story, seeing a shadow of sadness pass across Elara’s face.
Elara sniffed, took a deep breath, and composed herself.
"Yes, my mom should be at peace now. Thank you, Tom."
No matter what, the 17-year-old case was finally resolved.
Hoping her mother wouldn’t blame her for taking so long to uncover the truth.
"Thank me by coming back early and rewarding me."
Damon seized the moment to say.
"Fine, once I sort things here, I’ll return."
She could indeed come back.
Because, indeed, it’s a double blessing.
Cole Hawke’s matter was resolved, and so was her mother’s.
She could happily be with the man she loves and their children.
"Really decided to come back?"
Damon didn’t expect Elara to agree so easily and was somewhat disbelieving.
Elara looked at him indignantly, "What do you mean? Do I sense you don’t want me to return? Oh, I get it, if I come back, you can’t keep entangled with your ex-lover."
"Wife, don’t wrong me. I’d love nothing more than to fly over and bring you back now. Or maybe I’ll just come now?"
"Stop it, tell me, is it true that Julian is gay? He’s really with James Lee in that way?"
"Wife, you’re so curious. I even have photos of the two of them together; do you want to see?"
"Better not, I might get an eyesore."
"..."
The two joked and laughed until Damon hung up, leaving Elara gazing at the empty room. She thought for a moment and sent a message to Helen.
Helen hadn’t come back again today, was she with Arthur again?
