Chapter 277: Chapter 277: Finding an Excuse to Get Close to Elara Don

"Alright. But I had already made dinner plans with Helen, if you’re treating, let’s all go together."

Elara Don spoke expressionlessly.

"Mr. Hawke, do you mind if I join?"

Helen threw a flirtatious glance at Cole Hawke.

Cole Hawke looked at her, somewhat disdainfully.

His face was full of reluctance.

How blind could she be not to notice?

He just wanted to have dinner with Elara Don alone, not with this eyesore tagging along.

But...

"Fine, let’s go then."

Oh well, at least Elara agreed to have dinner with him.

As for the huge third wheel, he could just ignore her.

Cole Hawke opened the car door.

Elara Don and Helen exchanged a glance, a silent signal only they understood passed between them.

"Where do you want to eat?"

Once in the car, Cole Hawke fastened his seatbelt and asked.

"Dister Club." Elara named a place.

"Eating at a club?" Cole was slightly taken aback.

"Yeah! Dinner followed by a celebration, why not?" Elara’s eyes flickered slightly.

"Alright."

Cole Hawke smiled, not thinking much of it, and started the car.

Elara sat in the passenger seat, silently watching the scenery outside the window.

From the back, Helen, unwilling to remain silent, began to chat, "Mr. Hawke, you’re quite a driver. Are you visiting Country F for business?"

Cole Hawke had no desire to engage with her, driving on.

Elara, hearing no response from him, turned to him, "Helen’s talking to you, didn’t you hear?"

Cole was startled, "I heard."

"Then why didn’t you answer?"

"I came to Country F for some business and some personal reasons."

Cole replied once, glaring fiercely at Helen through the rearview mirror.

Can’t this woman ever just sit quietly?

He had no intention of making small talk with her.

"Mr. Hawke, how much do you weigh now? About 140 pounds? You must have been 200 before, right? That weight loss is impressive! Share some tips with us women who love losing weight!"

Helen continued her chatter from the back, a sly look in her eyes.

Knowing full well Cole didn’t want to engage, she still wanted to tease him.

After all, he’ll become her partner someday, right?

Communication builds relationships faster!

"No special tips, just improved health, no longer need meds, weight naturally went down."

Cole, maintaining his composure, replied expressionlessly.

"Oh! You were sick? What illness? Won’t be fatal, right?" Helen asked deliberately.

"Haha, even if I die, I’ll die after certain sharp-tongued people do." Unable to bear it, Cole snapped back.

"Tsk, Mr. Hawke, don’t you know? Those who die first are happier than those who die later. The former have it easy, the latter bear much."

"Really? Sounds like you’ve personally experienced it, Miss Helen."

"Of course, when my dog died, I wished I had gone first."

"..."

The two bantered back and forth.

Elara quietly listened, smiling subtly.

Why did she find their bickering amusing?

Sea City.

Damon Hawke squinted at the photos on his phone.

Naturally, he wouldn’t let Elara alone in Country F.

He had hired bodyguards there to protect her discreetly.

Now they sent her activity report.

After work, instead of going home, she went to a club with two people?

One was Helen and the other was actually Cole Hawke?

Cole was holding flowers!

What does this mean?

Trying to take advantage to pursue Elara?

Damon’s lips curved coldly as he was about to call Elara when a knock sounded at the door.

"Mr. Hawke."

Rhun Quinn walked in.

"What’s up?"

"The test report for Gabriel and Evelyn is out; they are indeed biological father and daughter."

Rhun placed a document on the desk.

Damon slightly raised an eyebrow, picked up the document and glanced at it, unsurprised.

"Also, here’s a video from a micro-camera, showing Gabriel and Eleanor Shaw together at the villa these days."

Rhun handed over a USB stick, a hint of awkwardness crossing his face.

Having viewed the footage, he hadn’t expected the intensity between those middle-aged people.

Damon fiddled with the USB stick, acknowledged it, and stored both items.

These will stay with him for now.

When the time comes, he’ll decide whether to use them.

"Understood. By the way, why is Cole in Country F? Is he handling business there?"

At this, Rhun thought for a moment, "Young Mr. Hawke isn’t responsible for Country F, but he seems to have taken leave, claiming to conduct research."

He’s conducting research in Country F?

Researching local culture and geography?

Or using it as an excuse to get closer to Elara?

Damon pursed his lips lightly, indicating Rhun to leave.

He picked up his phone, intending to call Elara but reconsidered.

They’re currently in a breakup phase, better to discuss it properly with her tonight.

The phone abruptly rang.

Damon focused, it was a call from Samantha.

A trace of annoyance crossed Damon’s eyes, but he answered.

"Samantha, what’s up?"

While things were uncertain, he still needed to play along with her.

"Tom, my dance studio is almost ready, I’ll have a small cocktail party at Houghton Place tomorrow, you’ll come, right?"

At this, Damon squinted slightly, finally saying, "Who else have you invited for tomorrow?"

"Just some of my family and friends. Tom, are you busy? If you can’t make it, I can postpone it."

The tentative tone came through the line.

Damon paused and said, "Alright, I’ll be there tomorrow night."

Though extremely reluctant, without knowing the truth about Elara’s mother’s death, he couldn’t distance himself from Samantha yet.

Ending the call, Damon tossed the phone aside.

His mind still on Elara far away in Country F.

She better not get too close to other men behind his back!

Otherwise, he wouldn’t care if their breakup was a sham, he would defend his territory!

Dister Club.

Elara didn’t drink alcohol, only Helen drank with Cole.

After two glasses, while Cole wasn’t looking, Helen slipped a pill into his drink.

Elara paused while sipping her juice, glancing at Helen, her heart raced.

She was a proper woman!

Being a bad woman for the first time, why did she feel a bit excited?

It seems she has a latent bad girl potential.

"Mr. Hawke, it’s been two years since we last met and now to meet again like this shows thick fate. Come, let’s have another drink."

Helen raised her glass, smiling at Cole.

Who wants fate with her?

Internally, Cole grumbled, but with Elara present, he raised his glass to Helen.

"Mr. Hawke, I emptied mine."

Helen observed Cole take only a sip, gulped down hers, turning the cup over.

Cole gave her a glance, smirking, "Wine is to be savored, you think this is hard liquor?"

"Mr. Hawke, a woman offers a drink and you only take a sip, isn’t that ungentlemanly?"

Worried he’d not drink enough for the drug to work, Helen taunted.

Cole didn’t want to argue with her, so he downed his glass.

Helen raised an eyebrow, exchanged a glance with Elara, their eyes gleamed.
