Daddy, You Got The Wrong Mommy-Chapter 223: My Brother and I Will Be Filial to Her All Our Lives
Seeing Elara Don staring at the two children with a bewildered expression, Damon Hawke spoke up, "Elly, Charlie and Bea are still young, things are easily lost. You’re their mother, you should keep their belongings safe for them."
The two red envelopes were thin, likely containing checks or deeds of some sort.
Her parents wouldn’t be stingy.
Elara Don had a strong sense of pride; she wouldn’t want to take the children’s belongings in front of everyone.
By deliberately using the word "keep," he gave her a way out.
Sure enough, upon hearing Damon’s words, Elara Don nodded and accepted the children’s things.
"Alright."
The children gave her their things, and she certainly didn’t want to take them.
But Damon had said to keep them safe.
She accepted them with a clear conscience.
The Hawthorne family observed with various thoughts.
The Hawke elders felt the two children were very filial and had done nothing wrong.
Vinny Hawke, however, was very upset.
"Charlie, Bea, this is a gift from your grandparents, you should keep it yourselves. What’s the meaning of giving it to someone else?"
Upon hearing this, Bea frowned.
"Auntie, my mom gave birth to me, she’s not someone else, what’s mine is hers."
"Yes, mom worked very hard to bring my brother and me into this world, we will be filial to her all our lives."
Dominic Hawke chimed in.
The two little ones defended unconditionally, their eyes dark and bright.
Vinny Hawke fell silent and instead glanced at Damon.
Even as her own son, at this moment, she couldn’t help but envy Elara Don! 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
On the sofa, Jason Hawke saw Vinny’s expression and sneered inwardly.
He more or less understood Vinny’s thoughts.
Thinking of herself, perhaps.
Her biological son could only be treated as a younger brother.
Moreover, he insisted on being with Elara Don, completely ignoring her opposition.
Comparison leads to anger!
But who could be blamed?
Wasn’t it her own doing?
Because of her, she even dragged her son down.
She deserved to be angered by her son!
"Miss Thorne, since it’s your first visit, we also have a gift for you. Here, take it."
The elder Hawthorne took out another red envelope and handed it to Elara Don.
Elara was flattered and quickly declined, "No need, Madam Hawke, this isn’t proper."
She wasn’t really part of the Hawke family, she had only come for a dinner, how could she accept a gift from them?
"Miss Thorne, don’t refuse a gift from an elder, consider it also a compensation for giving birth to children on behalf of the Hawke family."
Madam Hawke smiled kindly.
Elara Don pressed her lips together, still not accepting.
She had to give birth to the children back then out of coercion, there was no reason to accept this compensation.
But since Madam Hawke was an elder, repeated rejection would indeed be impolite.
"Elara Don, stop pretending, you look so fake."
Vinny laughed at Elara’s hesitation.
Elara looked at her, pressed her lips together, and reached out to accept.
"Thank you, Madam Hawke. Whatever is in here, I’ll record it under the children’s names."
She wouldn’t take a penny from the Hawke family!
The woman was forthright, standing upright.
Damon knew she wasn’t someone greedy, and to avoid Vinny saying anything more, he changed the subject.
"Alright, Dad, Mom, shall we start dinner? Charlie and Bea must be hungry."
"Yes, let’s start."
Having distributed the gifts, Elder Hawthorne gave the order, and the group moved to the dining room.
Damon walked to the wheelchair beside Jason Hawke, glanced at Cole Hawke, indicating for him to let Damon push.
Cole had no objections and stepped aside.
"Brother, how’s your health lately?"
Jason Hawke responded lightly, "Same as always. I guess I’ll be stuck with the wheelchair for the rest of my life."
Hearing this, Damon thought for a moment, "I know a famous traditional Chinese medicine doctor skilled in acupuncture; someday I’ll have him take a look at you. It might be more effective than Western medicine."
Jason was briefly stunned, using his hands to stop the wheelchair.
"Tom, aren’t you afraid that if my leg recovers, I’ll return to the company and take back the CEO position?"
If it wasn’t for the car accident, Damon wouldn’t have had the chance to replace him.
Did he really hope for his recovery?
"Brother, what are you saying? I’d be more than happy for you to be well so I can hand this heavy burden back to you. Being the CEO is incredibly tiring, don’t you agree?"
Damon’s eyes showed slight movement as he spoke.
Looks like his brother indeed had objections to him taking over the reins at Hawke Corporation!
But he was telling the truth.
He really wasn’t concerned about being the CEO.
"Dad, Damon, stop chatting, it’s time to eat."
Cole saw them talking and quickly went over to take over the wheelchair from Damon.
Jason didn’t say anything more but allowed Cole to assist him to the table.
The meal at the Hawke’s was sumptuous.
Elara Don sat next to Bea, still feeling somewhat uneasy.
She felt a sense of not belonging with the Hawthorne family.
"Miss Thorne, from what Tom says, you prefer sweets. Try these dishes, don’t be shy."
Elder Hawthorne spoke up, signaling everyone to start.
"You can just call me Elly."
Elara Don curved her lips, preparing to serve soup to the two little ones.
However, just as she reached out, a servant quickly served the two little ones before her.
"Let us handle it."
Elara Don’s hand paused mid-air, slightly embarrassed.
Damon glanced at her, served her soup, and whispered in her ear.
"We have maids to look after the kids; you should focus on enjoying your meal and relaxing today."
In a gentle tone, Damon made Elara’s lips curve as she began drinking the soup.
Damon served some more dishes onto Elara’s plate, eyes full of affection.
"Look, this is the first time I’ve seen Damon so attentive; having a girlfriend really makes a difference, doesn’t it?"
Madam Hawke laughed, teasing as she watched Damon.
Damon smiled without saying anything, continuing to take care of Elara.
Elara felt the heat of several gazes, making her uncomfortable.
"Alright, I can manage by myself."
"Feeling shy? You’ll need to get used to my affection slowly."
Damon raised an eyebrow, speaking boldly.
"Stop that, just eat."
Elara blushed, serving Damon a bite of food.
"Thank you, girlfriend."
Damon’s face was full of joy as he ate the food.
Watching the interaction between the two, Cole slightly lowered his gaze, masking the darkness in his eyes.
After finishing the meal, the two little ones excitedly pulled Elara into the garden for a walk.
The elder Hawkes watched the trio’s backs and said to Damon in the living room, "Tom, why not let the three of them stay over tonight?"
Hearing this, Damon paused, "Dad, Mom, don’t rush. There’s no hurry, give me a bit more time."
Elara still hadn’t agreed to marry him, so she probably wouldn’t want to let the two children stay at the ancestral home yet.
But he wasn’t in a hurry, because her attitude towards him was already changing.
