Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!-Chapter 209: Mother-in-Law Visits
Giselle Summers looked at her daughter-in-law sitting next to her, and a gentle smile appeared on her face: "You’re back. Jensen said you’ve been busy for a long time. Even though work is hectic, you must remember to rest; your health is the most important."
Giselle recalled the sleepy look on Mia Sutton’s face when she first entered and reminded her.
Mia Sutton: "..." Busy for several days? Who? Is this about her, the one who’s been lounging around the house?
Her gaze quietly shifted towards Jensen Sterling, seeing him smiling softly at her.
Mia Sutton: "..." Okay, she got it. He’s trying to patch up her image; they can’t admit she’s been lounging around at home.
Mia Sutton looked at Giselle Summers with her eyes curved sweetly. "Yes, Mom, I understand. We’ve had an event these days, and rehearsals ran a bit late. I’ll be more mindful in the future."
Giselle Summers had liked Mia Sutton from the first time they met. Though she was much younger than Jensen, having such a lively girl by his side isn’t a bad thing at all.
Mia Sutton is always someone easy to like. She understands boundaries well and knows how to cheer people up, especially the elders.
So in a short while, Mia Sutton and Giselle Summers were chatting away. The age gap between them didn’t seem to matter; Mia had gone through many worlds and played different roles, learning a mix of things. Whatever skills people from a place possessed, she learned them.
She talked about a wide range of topics; whatever she could think of, she could discuss in depth, so she conversed well with Giselle Summers.
Jensen Sterling sat aside, watching. Although he didn’t visit home often, he knew his mother had a rather calm temperament and rarely talked this long with anyone.
Mia Sutton and Giselle Summers chatted for quite a while, talking about everything from south to north, from ancient times to modern days, until Giselle Summers smiled and said, "Don’t mind me. I’m going to watch some TV; you two can go about your business."
...
Mia Sutton was about to return to her room, but before she could turn in that direction, a hand appeared on her wrist. The hand was exaggeratedly large, and its warmth slowly coursed through her skin to her wrist.
Mia Sutton lowered her gaze to look at her wrist and the hand resting on it, then confusedly raised her head to ask what was going on.
In that moment, Jensen Sterling moved his lips, mouthing the word: Mom.
Mia Sutton: "..." Oh right, she almost forgot. Then she quickly withdrew her steps that were about to head to her own room and smoothly was led by Jensen, hand in hand, into his room.
As soon as the door closed, Mia Sutton’s smile vanished. Her wide eyes looked more daunting than when she first saw Giselle Summers upon entering.
Her gaze moved from the window, to the wardrobe, then to the dressing table, finally landing on the bed, with an expression like she had seen a ghost.
"Mr. Sterling, what... what’s going on here? Why is everything of mine here with you?"
It wasn’t just one thing, but all her belongings. Everything from her room was here—from clothes, bags, makeup to the plush toys on her bed, all neatly placed at Jensen Sterling’s bedside, mismatched against the gray tones of his bedding, like two extremes.
