Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Summer Lowell Suspects He’s Plotting Against Justin Huxley

"Can you stop being so annoying?" Summer Lowell turned over, pushing Maxim Sinclair away. "I told you, I’m not interested in the Huxley Family’s affairs."

"You have to listen, I need you to know what your dear mentor has been up to," Maxim Sinclair gripped her hand, pulling her into his embrace. "Tina Huxley is having a tough time right now. Justin Huxley is making quite a name for himself in front of Old Master Huxley. If things keep going this way, Justin will be the heir to the Omni Group next year."

"Are you blaming me?" Summer stopped struggling, eyeing Maxim with a strange tone. "It’s a pity, but it’s already happened. Blaming me won’t help. If you’re really angry, you can send me to the police station."

"Why would I do that," Maxim gently caressed Summer’s cheek with extreme tenderness. "I spent so much effort nursing you back to health from that frail state. I can’t bear to see you suffer in a police station."

Here we go again!

Summer rolled her eyes without any attempt to hide it.

Maxim Sinclair would pull this routine almost every day, professing his love in a seemingly heartfelt manner.

But the possessiveness and obsession in his eyes were almost overflowing.

Summer closed her eyes. "Since that’s the case, I’m really tired. I’m going to sleep now, don’t disturb me."

"Go ahead, sleep," Maxim leaned over and gently kissed her forehead. "The Huxley Family drama has just begun. You can keep an eye on it when you’re bored; it’s quite interesting."

Summer thought he was being schadenfreude, and dismissed it from her mind after hearing it.

However, the next day while browsing the internet, she remembered Maxim’s words and deliberately checked on the current situation with the Huxley Family.

Being a native wealthy family in Stellarion, the events of the Huxley Family easily drew attention on the internet.

In addition, Tina Huxley was naturally ostentatious, with a large following on social media platforms. Already a topic of interest, she was even more frequently mentioned by various marketing accounts in recent days.

This time, however, the coverage was more negative than before.

Summer recalled Maxim telling her that Justin Huxley secretly kept some internet trolls to manipulate public opinion.

She looked up the marketing accounts Maxim had pointed out before and found that most of the accounts attacking Tina were the same ones he had mentioned.

Clearly, Justin Huxley had been working behind the scenes against Tina.

Seeing the overwhelmingly one-sided comments, Summer was filled with a sense of irony.

She used to envy Justin Huxley for his doting care towards his sister, Tina.

But compared to the obscene insults she saw today, those previous gestures seemed ridiculously absurd.

Who knows how Tina feels at the moment.

During the time Summer lived temporarily with the Huxleys, she often saw Tina flaunting how well Justin treated her, subtly implying that he cared more for her than for Summer.

But now, it seemed that both she and Tina had been fooled, equally laughable.

Summer left the comments section and closed the app, unable to bear any more of the malicious words.

Tina lost her biggest backing. Justin Huxley was a cunning beast in gentleman’s clothing, and the days ahead for her are likely to be tough.

"Why the expression? What did you see? Did your dear mentor call to invite you out for dinner?" Maxim walked onto the terrace with a platter of fruit, placing it on the table. "Justin Huxley is quite prominent now. You missed a chance to become a ’kept bird’ by not leaving with him last time."

Maxim picked up a piece of fruit and tossed it into his mouth. After chewing twice, he shook his head. "But, Justin Huxley’s spent years and years climbing up, if you really went with him, you’d only end up a mistress. Unlike me, willing to marry you openly, recognizing you as Mrs. Sinclair."

Summer set her phone aside and picked up her fruit tea. "You and Justin Huxley are six of one, half a dozen of the other. There’s not much difference in my eyes."

"Oh, there’s a big difference," Maxim sat down beside her. "You know exactly where the difference lies."

Know my foot!

After a while, Maxim spoke again. "You were too tired this morning to hear this. Just now, Assistant Collins reported to me about the current situation with the Huxley Family. Do you want to hear it?"

"I don’t want to hear it," Summer shook her head. "Do whatever you like."

"No, you have to listen," Maxim grasped her wrist. "Word is, Justin Huxley has taken over all the positions held by Tina’s family. At the Omni Group, he holds the most power just below the Chairman."

This outcome didn’t surprise Summer.

She didn’t need Maxim’s explanations to see Justin’s ambitions clearly.

Maxim glanced at his watch. "About now, Justin should be negotiating a deal with clients. He has a good eye. The clients he’s recently targeted are ones I’ve had longstanding relationships with. If he poaches them, Sinclair Group’s stock prices will plummet, leading to a cascade of effects."

"Telling me this is useless. I’m a designer, I don’t understand business," Summer held her teacup with one hand. "Plus, Justin won’t trust me. You’d better stop thinking you’ll get something from him through me."

"Then you’re mistaken," Maxim gently rubbed her wrist with his index finger. "I won’t use you. I never have, and I never will. Justin’s little tricks are nothing to me."

It wasn’t his first time speaking in this tone. The way he spoke now was similar to before dawn.

Summer lifted her head, sensing something. Maxim softly smiled back. "What’s on your mind? Did you suddenly think of something?"

"No," Summer shook her head lightly. "Just thought you talk a lot, it’s annoying."

"No, you’re not annoyed," Maxim pressed her wrist, coaxing gently. "What did you guess? Tell me, and I’ll help you verify if it’s true."

Under his spell, Summer slowly voiced her suspicions. "You’re planning something against Justin Huxley, aren’t you? And it’s something fatal!"

Maxim smiled silently before letting out a low sigh. "The fruit is very fresh, you should eat it soon."

Having said that, Maxim stood up to leave.

Summer called after him. "You haven’t answered my question yet?"

Maxim ignored her, walking away without looking back.
