Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 256: Even If You’re Only Acting, I’m Willing to Stay by Your Side
Matthew knew that he surely had an answer in his heart. After a moment of silence, he cautiously said, "I noticed that Madam doesn’t seem too willing to cooperate with him. President Sinclair, if there’s any misunderstanding on your side, you should explain it to Madam as soon as possible."
Maxim Sinclair laughed, cracking his knuckles, "I’ve said it countless times, there’s no misunderstanding between Summer Lowell and me. It’s her who doesn’t believe in me, doesn’t believe in herself, and doesn’t believe in our future together." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Protecting people and gathering information were things Matthew was good at, but when it came to being a consultant on emotions, he was at a loss.
Matthew scratched his head awkwardly, "I don’t understand these things either, but I’ve heard that the best way to handle such matters is through proper communication between both parties. President Sinclair, why not have a good talk with Madam? You can’t let Justin Huxley take advantage of the situation again."
Regarding the matter with Summer Lowell, Maxim Sinclair never really intended to ask for his opinion.
Those words just now were merely a back-and-forth conversation.
"Alright, I know. It’s getting late, go to bed early."
After sending Matthew away, Maxim Sinclair sat back at his desk and pulled out the documents related to the Huxley Family.
Thinking it over, Maxim Sinclair picked a very conspicuous spot and placed the document with Justin Huxley’s name there.
"Summer, don’t disappoint me," Maxim Sinclair whispered softly, standing in front of the bookshelf.
Awakened by thirst in her dream, Summer Lowell got up to drink water and ended up sneezing several times.
She thought the air conditioning was set too low, so she walked over and turned up the temperature. After adjusting it, she stood by the window, daydreaming with the water cup in her hand.
The conversations with Justin Huxley kept echoing in her mind.
A week later.
After talking with Assistant Collins about the Huxley Family, Maxim Sinclair turned his gaze steadily towards the document on the bookshelf.
Assistant Collins followed his line of sight, feeling a shiver in his heart. He then lowered his head and pretended to be busy, not daring to look up.
Aside from him and Maxim Sinclair, there was no one else in the room. If Maxim Sinclair had something to say, he would definitely grab him and ask, "What do you think... if Justin Huxley cooperates with Summer Lowell, what kind of benefits will he offer her?"
Assistant Collins had heard from Maxim Sinclair that Justin Huxley intended to conspire with Summer Lowell to steal the Sinclair Group’s secrets.
This news was so shocking that Assistant Collins hadn’t dared to go near Summer Lowell these days. For one, he was afraid she’d find something out. If things came to light later, Maxim Sinclair would hold him responsible. Secondly, he was worried he’d reveal his thoughts involuntarily in front of Summer Lowell.
Either possibility was bad for him.
Seeing that he hadn’t heard a response after speaking, Maxim Sinclair turned his head, puzzled, and looked at Assistant Collins, "Didn’t you hear my question?"
"I heard," unable to evade it, Assistant Collins could only lift his head, "I can’t guess either. Maybe Justin Huxley is relying on past acquaintances with Madam, and Madam is finding it hard to turn him down, so she reluctantly agreed to cooperate with him."
Maxim Sinclair gave a sneering laugh, knowing that he was avoiding the main point, "Justin Huxley, the only thing he can offer is to let Summer regain her freedom."
To Summer Lowell, so-called freedom meant leaving Maxim Sinclair’s side.
Assistant Collins had indeed initially guessed this, but he really did not dare to say it out loud.
The reason was nothing else; Summer Lowell leaving was something Maxim Sinclair could not tolerate.
"It’s been a week already, why hasn’t Summer shown any reaction?" Maxim Sinclair rubbed his chin, obviously a little impatient, "Justin Huxley must be losing sleep night after night, right? I’ve thrown so many obstacles in his business, and yet he has such a big ace in his hand and he’s not using it?"
Maxim Sinclair’s tone sounded extremely curious, and Assistant Collins, hearing it, just felt panicked, "Perhaps Madam only pretended to agree with him and had no real intention of stealing secrets from you. Your kindness to Madam is apparent to everyone."
"If what you say is true, then that would be great," Maxim Sinclair obviously did not believe what he said, "To Summer, I’m just a demon clipping her wings. The fact that she’s obedient now and not resisting at all is purely an act."
Indeed.
Summer Lowell had been quite gentle during this time and had stopped using words to antagonize him. Occasionally, when she was in a good mood, she would even discuss with Maxim Sinclair about the shortcomings of her paintings.
The butler, observing this, had begun preparing to renovate the nursery and was even considering whether to create a playground in the garden.
Maxim Sinclair was not as excited as he was. He wasn’t meeting Summer Lowell for the first time—he knew what real emotions lay beneath Summer Lowell’s surface responses.
Summer Lowell was merely performing; however, her acting was somewhat clumsy, not even as genuine as when she served as his secretary back in the day.
But it doesn’t matter. Since Summer Lowell was willing to perform, he might as well play along with her.
At least it was a game everyone could enjoy.
However, if Summer were to find out that her play had been exposed and that he would not let her go... would she still perform the way she was?
Perhaps she might put more effort into her act, unlike now, where her performance reeked of indifference.
Presumably, Justin Huxley’s reward was not that enticing, either.
Maxim Sinclair irritably complained to Assistant Collins, "Don’t you think Summer Lowell is stupid? Dealing with Justin Huxley, when she has someone like me by her side, she still goes out and messes with those idiots outside; she’s really clueless."
Assistant Collins didn’t dare to agree with this statement, awkwardly smiled, and pretended not to hear it.
"As for Justin Huxley, push him a little harder. It’s too boring for him not to take any action with this kind of dilly-dallying."
Assistant Collins looked up, cautiously advising, "We can’t rush things too much. Everything is proceeding in an orderly manner now. Justin Huxley already shows signs of taking the bait. If we move too quickly, we might alert him. Justin Huxley is so cunning—if we make him sense danger and he’s unwilling to fall into the trap, all our preparations would be in vain."
"Your worry is reasonable," Maxim Sinclair rubbed his chin, hesitating for a moment, "Then let’s throw Justin Huxley a sweet bait, forcing him to approach Summer."
Assistant Collins looked at Maxim Sinclair, whose eyes showed a hint of madness, and was somewhat confused about what he was truly aiming at.
Wouldn’t it be better to proceed slowly, keeping Summer from getting involved?
Maxim Sinclair immediately saw through what he was thinking and smiled, explaining, "I’m very interested in seeing what Summer will choose; this choice will affect her future life. But I don’t want to give her the chance to think deeply. I want her instinctive reaction; I want her to quickly make a choice between me and Justin Huxley."
Why do that?
Assistant Collins complained in his heart. Can’t you just let things be?
Continuing to mess around like this, President Sinclair wouldn’t take long to become a lone wolf again.
Such a mess, and that Miss Lowell—should I remind her?
