Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 255: Do You Still Think I’m That Pitiful Girl from Back Then?
"Sighing?" Maxim Sinclair slowly chewed on the words. Vivian Sullivan sighed toward Summer Lowell, which meant that Summer had said something while alone with her yesterday.
The one who got drunk was Summer, clearly. Summer revealed some heartfelt words to Vivian Sullivan, which explained Vivian’s expression when she sent her off in the car.
The bodyguard saw him fall into silence, hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Did we not protect Madam well yesterday?"
"No, you did well," Maxim Sinclair smiled. "I trust your abilities. I was just asking offhand. Don’t mention this to Madam. You can go and rest. Just remember to keep an eye on her the next time she goes out."
"Okay."
The bodyguard responded and turned to leave.
From a high vantage point, Maxim Sinclair watched Summer Lowell, who seemed to be laughing, and his sharp eyebrows slowly furrowed into a knot. "What are you really up to in your heart?"
With occasional interest, Summer helped the gardener plant flowers all day. In the evening, she received a phone call from Vivian Sullivan, inviting her to try a newly discovered Huaiyang cuisine restaurant.
Summer looked at Maxim Sinclair, who had been at home all day, casting meaningful glances at her now and then. She decisively agreed to Vivian’s invitation.
As soon as she left, Maxim immediately called Matthew, "Personally follow Madam out, but don’t let her know. Keep your distance. She’s been acting a bit off these last two days. Help me find out why."
Matthew, having received the secret order, took two assistants with him and, following the real-time communication relayed by the bodyguards protecting Summer, left the villa area with her.
The Huaiyang cuisine place Vivian suggested was a bit out of the way. Summer circled around for over an hour before finally finding it.
Seeing that it was another private dining establishment, Summer couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Could it be that Vivian brought Justin Huxley again?
Her guess wasn’t wrong. Indeed, Justin Huxley was there with them today.
Summer looked at Justin Huxley, who greeted her warmly in the room, and suppressed the regret of coming as she greeted him, "Senior, what a coincidence, you’re free to join us for dinner again today."
"It’s not a coincidence at all. I specifically asked Vivian to invite you," Justin Huxley admitted openly. "I wanted to talk to you about what we didn’t finish discussing last time."
Here we go again.
Summer felt annoyed. Taking advantage of the moment he turned around, she glanced at Vivian Sullivan, blaming her for not informing her in advance.
Vivian, feeling guilty, took the opportunity while washing her hands to explain herself, "You were so upset last night after you got drunk and wanted to leave. I’ve been thinking about your tears all day today. Then Justin called and hinted at something. I thought it might help you, so I took the liberty of arranging today’s setup."
Since she was already there, Summer could only obediently stay and accompany the two for dinner.
Midway through the meal, Vivian excused herself, leaving the room to give the two a chance for a private conversation.
As the private room door closed, Summer put down her chopsticks and looked at Justin Huxley, who stared at her intently, "Are you so unwilling to give up on collaborating with me?"
"And are you so resistant to this collaboration?" Justin Huxley chuckled, shaking his head. "This collaboration doesn’t harm you; it can help you regain your freedom. I heard from Vivian that you have thoughts of leaving. If she hadn’t said anything, I wouldn’t be here today."
Summer completely distrusted his words, "You’re so persistent. I don’t believe you’d just give up."
"So, would you like to work with me?" Justin Huxley said, picking up a file that had been placed on a chair since Summer came in. "The Sinclair family relatives and elders already know about you. They even know about your past theft of Sinclair’s confidential files."
Feeling numb, Summer took the file, carefully flipping through it, "How could the Sinclair family know? In the first two or three years when Maxim Sinclair took over the family, he dealt with those so-called elders. As far as I know, once they realized he was a tough character, they all retreated and indulged in pleasure."
Justin Huxley was secretly surprised by how much trust Maxim Sinclair had placed in Summer, allowing her to know so much about the Sinclair family.
If he hadn’t been prepared and understood Summer better than anyone, this pawn might indeed have been difficult to control.
"Recently, Maxim Sinclair’s actions in cleaning house startled those veterans. They fear he might later be swayed by pillow talk, threatening their interests."
Summer still found Justin Huxley’s explanation to be far-fetched.
There’s no way anything like that could happen around Maxim Sinclair.
Justin Huxley probably thought she knew nothing, making it all up to scare her, to achieve his goal of drawing her into collaboration.
This senior probably still sees her as that lonely, helpless girl who could only plead for his help back then...
He must think he’s the only one she can turn to now, the only one who can somewhat compete against Maxim Sinclair....
Summer lowered her head to continue looking through the file Justin brought, not daring to look up for fear he might read her thoughts.
Justin Huxley watched coldly, feeling more confident about his success.
...
Late at night, Maxim Sinclair stood by the window on the second floor, watching Summer Lowell return below, frowning in displeasure. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Judging by the way she walked, it seemed she had gotten drunk again.
Maxim, like the previous day, concerned and anxious, went downstairs. Summer, ascending the stairs, saw him and felt guilty.
Before Maxim could question her, Summer hastily explained, "I’m not drunk. My walking unsteadiness is because these shoes are uncomfortable and ill-fitting."
Maxim’s gaze fell on the shoes that looked uncomfortable. "If they don’t fit, toss them. I’ll have the butler arrange for a shoemaker to come and measure you tomorrow. You can choose a brand style you like, and they will be delivered on time."
Summer barely perceptibly furrowed her brow. Maxim’s tone suggested they would be together for a long time... which stirred a bit of fear in her heart.
"Let’s talk about it later. I’m really tired today, so I’ll rest first." Summer, not daring to agree, clumsily changed the subject, tapping her forehead as she headed to her room.
Watching her figure, Maxim’s eyes grew darker.
Matthew, also having just returned, knew Maxim would be curious about Summer’s activities tonight, so after confirming that Summer had returned to her room, he went to find Maxim in the study.
"If I’m not mistaken, Justin Huxley was also present today." Maxim, observing him, spoke with certainty in his tone.
Matthew nodded, "According to the information we gathered, Justin Huxley wants to collaborate with Madam and hopes to gain something through her."
"What could he gain through her?" Maxim already had an answer in his mind.
