Chapter 233: Chapter 233: Showing Off Love in the Neighborhood

Summer Lowell saw he was still being persistent, so she simply said, "Since you’re so capable, why don’t you clear my name first."

Maxim Sinclair approached her with a smile, "And then? I clear your name so it’s easier for you to sneak away?"

Her inner calculations were laid bare between them, causing Summer to feel a hint of embarrassment.

She then pushed Maxim aside and headed upstairs, "If you don’t want to help, forget it, I was just saying."

Since you’ve already spoken up, then...

In the blink of an eye, it was three days later, the day Maxim had mentioned about inviting Charles Jenson and Vivian Sullivan over.

Early this morning, Summer had just finished breakfast when the butler came over with the chef, inquiring about Vivian’s taste preferences.

Summer had originally planned to discuss the evening’s meal with the chef after breakfast.

Once Summer almost finished discussing with the chef and was about to leave, the intentionally lingering butler meaningfully said, "The young master instructed me early on that when the young madam wakes up, to bring the chef to find you, so we can carefully prepare tonight’s meal, lest Dr. Sullivan be dissatisfied."

"I looked at the chef’s menu, he prepared it well," Summer, although holding grievances about living here, was always taken care of meticulously by the butler and the staff, and thus felt embarrassed and couldn’t bear to give them a hard time, "Thank you, Uncle Owen."

"I’m not tired, it’s my duty," the butler smiled and waved his hand, in his view, Summer being willing to thank him was a sign of improved relations between Maxim and Summer, "Then I’ll proceed as per your instructions to prepare."

In the evening, Maxim emerged from the study and found Summer in the garden, distracted and occasionally looking out onto the road.

"Charles told me they’re stuck in traffic and Vivian left her phone at the hospital," Maxim glanced at Summer’s barely begun sketch, "they’ll probably be here in over twenty minutes; how about I take you for a stroll to meet them?"

Summer thought it was a good idea, given her current state of restlessness.

So, she followed Maxim out of the garden onto the little path outside.

Several cars passed by, none belonging to Charles and Vivian.

Summer stood on tiptoe to look further down the road absentmindedly.

Maxim found her amusing and waved a hand in front of her eyes, "Looks like your soul is ready to fly away."

Summer found him annoying and turned away to avoid his hand, "We’re outside now, with people everywhere. Shouldn’t you care about your image a bit?"

"Here, people often stroll around showing affection, having one more of me doesn’t count,"

Maxim said, trying to put an arm around Summer’s waist.

But due to the strong rejection on her face, he gave up.

"By the way, how did you and Dr. Sullivan meet? You seem to have a very good relationship; it’s rare for you to care so much about a friend."

Maxim automatically ignored the equally important Justin Huxley to Summer.

Finding the waiting boring, Summer remained silent for about two minutes before starting to tell her story with Vivian.

Maxim shook his head after listening and sighed, "You two really have similar interests and perfectly matched temperaments."

Agreeing with this sentiment, Summer smiled, "I think so too, so I’m really happy she’s coming today."

As she finished speaking, Summer noticed another car turning from the road corner in the distance.

Seeing her eyes light up, Maxim followed her gaze and laughed, "They’re here."

Before Charles’ car could even stop, Vivian flung the door open, dashed out, and hugged Summer tightly.

Summer, caught off guard, nearly lost her balance. Fortunately, Maxim was there to catch them, or both would have fallen.

"Alright, no need to be so excited. Look at you, almost toppled Miss Lowell over," Charles said, pulling on Vivian’s collar. He then looked up to greet Maxim, "President Sinclair, what are you doing here? Were you waiting for us?"

Maxim nodded, "Summer kept glancing outside eagerly, so I decided to bring her over myself. Good evening, Dr. Sullivan."

Initiating the greeting, despite her dislike for Maxim, Vivian couldn’t openly reject him in this setting, so she responded less enthusiastically, "Hello, President Sinclair, thank you for the invitation."

"You’re welcome, you’re a good friend of Summer’s," Maxim beckoned the two to head inside, "we’ll have plenty of meals and fun together in the future, don’t be so distant."

With Maxim inviting, Charles walked alongside him, leaving space for the two friends.

As they distanced themselves, Charles approached gossiping somewhat, "President Sinclair, need me to do you a favor?"

With a meaningful nod, he indicated the two friends ahead with his chin, hinting at helping Maxim with Vivian.

"No need, for a while, I won’t be going to the company much; you keep a close eye on things for me," Maxim turned to him, lowering his voice, "Make sure to watch out; the Huxley Family is itching to grab more benefits from me, the Blue Sky incident can’t repeat."

"Understood, President Sinclair," Charles said, thumping his chest, "With me watching, don’t worry, the Huxleys won’t gain any advantage."

Up front, Vivian walked arm-in-arm with Summer, took a step and looked back, then leaned in close to Summer’s ear, "That Maxim Sinclair seems respectable enough, is he secretly twisted and crazy?"

"Not as bad as you say," Summer chuckled lightly, "Just a bit obsessive."

"People in their status can be crazy in extraordinary ways," Vivian voiced her concern, "Has he harmed you?"

Summer shook her head, "No, I’m too lazy to deal with him; for now, it’s just going to be like this, no use resisting."

"So you’re... resigning yourself to fate?" As the living room drew closer, Vivian’s voice grew quieter, "Let’s talk more later, if you need help, I’m here."

The dinner was pleasant for everyone.

Afterwards, to give the two friends some space, Maxim Sinclair took Charles Jenson to the study to discuss business.

Summer thought for a moment, then led Vivian to the flower house in the garden.

The flower house was large, as Vivian looked around she marveled at Maxim’s wealth, then worriedly looked at Summer, "In the afternoon, Maxim said you kept looking out while in the garden. Do you stay only in the garden usually?"

"It’s alright," Summer smiled, "there’s an art studio, but it’s with the study, and I don’t want to be in the same place as him."
