Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 232: Summer Lowell, What Are You So Afraid Of?
Summer Lowell heard this and instinctively looked up, meeting Maxim Sinclair’s gaze in the mirror.
Maxim Sinclair asked knowingly, "What’s wrong? Why such a big reaction?"
Summer lowered her head again, turned on the faucet to rinse the foam off her hands, and then said, "Should we have Charles Jenson bring Vivian along too?"
"No wonder you’re good friends with Dr. Sullivan. Charles told me that when he went to see Dr. Sullivan today, she immediately guessed that it was me who invited him."
Maxim followed Summer who was walking out, "Sometimes, I just don’t understand how you and Dr. Sullivan, both so smart, can’t see through someone who wears a mask."
Summer stopped, looking at Maxim beside her.
Here we go again!
Ever since she regained her memory and stayed here, Maxim always seized every opportunity to tell her how excessive and frightening Justin Huxley was.
Does he really think I’m that foolish?
"I’ve heard the gossip about the Huxley and Sinclair families," Summer said, looking at the large painting hanging in the center of the living room. "I heard someone say that it used to be a big family photo of the Sinclairs, but ever since this house officially came into your hands, the first thing you did was take that photo down."
Maxim raised an interesting eyebrow, looking at Summer with encouragement, "What’s on your mind? Go on."
"To outsiders, you’re much scarier than Justin Huxley, especially after you dealt with those illegitimate children. If we’re talking about being ruthless, Justin can’t even compare to you, right?"
The butler nearby vaguely heard the conversation and frowned, driving the cleaning staff outside.
He also moved away from the area.
After Summer finished speaking, she saw Maxim’s expression change visibly.
Just as she was feeling uneasy, Maxim suddenly laughed, "Interesting, do you think your dear senior would be happy or angry hearing what you just said?"
"I was complimenting him, so he’d probably be happy." Summer glanced around, poured herself a drink of water, and sat on the only single sofa in the living room.
If Maxim followed her, he could only sit opposite her.
Keeping a bit of distance was better.
His presence was too overwhelming; standing next to him made her very uneasy.
"Then you really don’t know your senior well," Maxim moved behind her, resting his hand on the back of the sofa, his fingers playing gently with her hair, "After hearing your evaluation, Justin would only feel like you see him as inferior to me."
"As long as you’re happy." Summer had no desire to argue with him, leaning over to grab the jewelry magazine from the table and started flipping through it.
Maxim watched in silence for a while, then suddenly pointed at a pink diamond ring, "Do you like this? It’s said that this ring will appear at the auction this winter. If you like it, I’ll win it for you."
Summer glanced sideways, noticing the price beside it, and then looked up at Maxim, amused, "Is it a free gift?"
"What do you mean by free gift? Hmm?" Maxim looked at Summer with a mischievous grin, vaguely guessing something not so pleasant.
"It means, you give me a ring for free, but I won’t consider it to have any special meaning, and you shouldn’t foolishly think you can bind me with that ring." As Summer spoke, she kept watching Maxim’s expression closely.
He should be unable to take that...right?
To Summer’s disappointment, Maxim’s expression remained unchanged. Instead, when Summer showed disappointment because she didn’t see the reaction she expected, Maxim couldn’t help but laugh, "Putting everything else aside, do you like this ring?"
Following his words, Summer looked back down at the magazine in her hand. The page was filled with coverage of the pink diamond ring.
A rare pink diamond ring, valued at nearly a hundred million.
From both an appreciation and monetary perspective, few wouldn’t be moved by it.
But being tempted was one thing; the price to pay for such a pink diamond was not that simple.
Summer snapped the magazine shut and tossed it onto the table, "The design is okay, but I can design jewelry better than this ring."
"I certainly believe in your skills," Maxim nodded in agreement, "You’re always hard on yourself. Given the opportunity, you’d naturally progress. But what I’m asking isn’t about your career, but whether you like this ring from the perspective of someone pursuing you."
Summer felt a string deep within her subtly plucked.
She remained silent for a moment, then lightly shook her head, "Maxim, though you won’t be pleased to hear this, I have to say it again: It’s better for us to forget each other beyond this world."
"What are you afraid of?" Maxim moved in front of her, squatting by the sofa and looking up at Summer, "We’ve come this far because you’ve been too stubborn. If you’d be willing to try, you’d be happier now."
Summer avoided his gaze, "You’re too extraordinary, and besides, we’re not in the same class, so I’m afraid. There’s no possibility between us. Previously, I came to you with an agenda, and we each got what we wanted. Wasn’t that nice? Now that it’s the past, you shouldn’t keep pursuing me."
"But how could I bear to let go?" Maxim grasped her hand, forcing Summer to look at him directly, "Feel your heart and ask yourself honestly, is it really just using me?"
This question, Summer couldn’t answer.
Because she herself couldn’t quite grasp how she truly felt about Maxim Sinclair.
On the night when her memories returned, Summer didn’t sleep a wink.
What she remembered most wasn’t anyone else, but Maxim Sinclair.
The moments with Maxim played in her mind like a carousel, and even if she deliberately tried to shift her thoughts, she couldn’t drive Maxim out of her mind.
It’s as if...in the depths of her soul, he was what she most longed to remember.
"You’re avoiding me, Summer," Maxim stood straight, slowly approaching her, "Why do you want to avoid what’s deep in your heart?"
"Stop flattering yourself," Summer stepped away from his reach, "Give up, the two of us aren’t possible. Even though I was framed by Tina Huxley, ultimately, it was because of you. She likes you, and because she couldn’t have you, she resented me. Being by your side only brings others’ jealousy."
"That’s because you still resist becoming the rightful Mrs. Sinclair," Maxim disagreed, "If you become the rightful Mrs. Sinclair, with me around, no one would dare target you!"
