Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Did You Really Want to Marry Justin Huxley Back Then?

As soon as Summer Lowell finished speaking, she heard the door of the study not far away open. She and the butler looked over together.

"Summer," Maxim Sinclair stood at the door and called her, "come here, I have something to tell you."

Summer didn’t want to go over. She took a few steps toward the stairs, "I’ll go downstairs for a glass of water. I’ll come find you after I finish drinking."

"Come over now, Uncle Owen, go pour the Young Madam some water," Maxim said, leaving no room for argument, pulling Summer by the arm and leading her into the study, "I tried talking to you nicely, and you didn’t listen, so I have to personally invite you, huh?"

Summer shrugged indifferently and followed him into the room.

Once inside, she immediately shook off Maxim’s hand, putting distance between them, "What do you want to talk about? Just say it."

Maxim crossed his arms and looked at Summer with an amused expression, "When did you regain your memory?"

Summer averted her gaze, not daring to meet his eyes, "Yesterday, when I saw Sheryl, it all came back. Her face left a deep impression on me. During those days when I was framed, I frequently looked over her files."

"I see," Maxim nodded thoughtfully and then suddenly changed the subject, "but I find it hard to believe what you said."

"Whatever I say, you won’t believe, do as you please. I don’t care," Summer spread her hands, truly looking unconcerned.

Maxim released one hand and scratched his ear with his fingers, "From my observation, you had already regained your memory the night Tina Huxley tried to drug you, right? No, perhaps even earlier."

Summer stared unwaveringly at the potted plant beside her, but her heart raced because of Maxim’s words.

Sure enough, she couldn’t hide it from him.

"Why didn’t you admit it earlier?" Maxim walked toward her step by step, "Or did you plan to marry Justin Huxley to turn the tables? After all, he was once the senior you admired the most."

"This has nothing to do with him. After regaining my memory, I moved out of the Huxley Family. Don’t take it out on him."

"Ha, even now you’re protecting your senior," Maxim walked up to Summer, gripping her chin, forcing her to face him, "At this point, do you still believe he’s a good person?"

"At least he was nice to me and never forced me like you did," Summer’s eyes flashed with unusual emotion, "To me, you’re much harsher than he is."

"That’s true," Maxim admitted candidly, without any intention of defending himself, "but since you’ve regained your memory, forget about Justin Huxley. Don’t develop any improper thoughts about him, or I can’t guarantee what I’d do to him. You should know, despite his capabilities, he’s no match for me."

Summer responded softly, avoiding his hand, "Is there anything else to say? If not, can I leave?"

Before she finished speaking, Maxim suddenly reached over, pulled Summer into his arms, and kissed her ear, warm breath brushing against her cheek, "I want to say once more, I’m truly happy you’re back."

Summer struggled uncomfortably, "Let go, you’re holding too tight; I can barely breathe."

It was a long time before Maxim released his hold, looking at Summer with a certain obsession, "You must stay by my side from now on. If you leave again, you’ll regret it."

"Let’s talk about the future later," Summer didn’t want to make any promises, "Calm down and let me go. I want to go eat."

Finally escaping from the study, Summer sat at the dining table in a daze, until a maid, seeing her lost, came over to remind her, "Young Madam, this soup is best consumed hot, or it loses its efficacy."

Startled back to reality, Summer looked at the bowl of reddish medicinal soup before her, "What kind of soup is this? It seems different from the previous days?"

"This is a recipe from Dr. David Dalton’s team. There are practitioners of Chinese medicine on his team, though I don’t remember the exact effects. It’s good for your health."

Dr. David Dalton?

Summer picked up the spoon and slowly drank the soup from the bowl.

Maxim had praised Dr. David Dalton to the skies in front of her, but did he actually notice she hadn’t lost her memory?

Halfway through the soup, voices of the butler greeting someone came from the courtyard.

Engrossed in her meal, Summer paid no attention until the butler led someone inside, coming to greet her at the table.

She realized then that the visitor was Dr. David Dalton.

Having just mentally criticized him, Summer felt slightly embarrassed when she saw him.

Dr. David Dalton glanced at the nearly empty bowl of soup and smiled, "We doctors appreciate patients who follow our advice. Even though this soup doesn’t taste great, it’s quite effective, especially for someone like Mrs. Sinclair whose constitution is somewhat weak."

"By the way," he continued, "congratulations on regaining your memory, Mrs. Sinclair. Are you feeling any discomfort today? Some people experience physical or particularly cerebral discomfort after memory recovery. If you have similar symptoms, let me know promptly so we can conduct further checks and develop an appropriate treatment plan."

Having long since regained her memory without any discomfort, Summer shook her head, "I’m fine, no discomfort. It’s just a bit overwhelming to suddenly have so many memories return, but after sorting through them, I’m okay."

Having practiced medicine for decades and seen all kinds of dramatic stories, Dr. David Dalton was not interested in the reasons Summer hid her intact memory.

He came to China solely to treat patients, and now that the patient was fine, it was time to take his team back home.

Today, he was here to bid farewell to Maxim Sinclair.

Seeing he wasn’t asking questions, Summer felt relieved, "Maxim is upstairs in the study. Shall I have someone lead you up?"

"In the study? I’ll go up myself, don’t trouble yourself, Mrs. Sinclair. Enjoy your meal."

Dr. David Dalton didn’t manage to leave. For some unknown reason, Maxim decided to keep him around.

He even mentioned holding a thank-you event for Dr. David Dalton to express gratitude for traveling so far to help Summer regain her memory.

From Maxim’s demeanor, it seemed he intended to broadcast Summer’s memory recovery widely.

Summer even thought Maxim did this to let Justin Huxley know she had regained her memory.

That evening,

Summer received a gift, a mobile phone Maxim gave her.
