Chapter 130: Chapter 130: I Was the One Who Dumped Him First

The more gentle he treated her, the more uncomfortable Summer Lowell felt inside.

Although she never intended to be with him initially, seeing Justin Huxley being so considerate made her feel like she was letting him down.

"It’s not your fault, it’s that I’m not worthy of the way you treat me."

Justin Huxley lowered his head and gave a helpless smile, and where Summer couldn’t see, there was a shadow in his eyes.

Summer looked at Justin, who was dejected with his head down. Despite her discomfort, she decided to refuse him.

"Senior, you have such great qualities, you’ll surely meet someone who can be with you for life. I’m really sorry, I can’t agree to be with you."

As she spoke, a bitter smile tugged at Summer’s lips.

Seeing this, Justin wanted to reach out, but at the moment his hand extended, he restrained himself and withdrew.

He was at a loss for words, his hands tied.

Summer felt the bitter taste rise again in her heart, "I’m really sorry."

She lowered her head slightly, using that motion to hide her expression.

As things had progressed to this point, Summer didn’t know what to do next.

Though signing such an agreement was an impulsive act of hers, she strangely felt a faint sense of triumph.

Even she thought she must be out of her mind.

"You don’t need to feel sorry, I’m the one who fell for you first. Whether or not I get a response is my own business. You don’t need to feel troubled by it."

Justin Huxley took a gentlemanly step back.

Summer showed an awkward expression, unsure of what to say next.

"Hey, isn’t it normal to be rejected after a confession? You don’t need to feel so pressured."

Justin Huxley responded cheerfully, "However, I won’t give up on you, Summer. As long as you’re not married, I believe I still have a chance to show you my sincerity. By then, don’t regret rejecting me today."

Summer was amused by him, let out a sigh in her heart, then glanced at the food on the table and called out to Justin, who was putting on his coat to leave, "Why don’t we eat together?"

Justin showed a troubled expression, "Then you have to promise not to show that guilty expression again, or else I won’t be in the mood to eat."

"I just feel really sorry for you." Summer took a deep breath, helping him pull out a chair, tentatively asking, "We may not be able to be a couple, but we can still be friends, right?"

Justin raised his eyebrows high, "Could it be that you want to cut all ties with me from now on?"

"How could that be?" Summer immediately retorted, "Absolutely not."

"Then I’m relieved."

Justin sat down and gestured for Summer, "The owner and chef of this restaurant are from Leonia. Try it, you should like and be familiar with the taste."

"Actually, I smelled it as soon as you opened it earlier. It’s a taste I’ve missed for a long time."

"That’s good, have a taste."

"Sure."

Justin took a piece of fruit and put it in his mouth, chewing gently, and then looked at Summer, who was focused on eating her dessert, and suddenly asked, "Has Maxim Sinclair been bothering you lately?"

Summer froze, lowering her head, unconsciously poking the cake with the little fork in her hand, "Being in Stellarion together, it’s not surprising to run into him."

Justin knew her speaking habits well, and Summer’s non-direct answer only proved that something had happened between her and Maxim that he didn’t know about.

To confirm his thoughts, Justin brought up Tina Huxley, "If Maxim Sinclair is targeting you again, you can tell me. I can talk to Tina and have her mediate to spare you the trouble."

"Thanks, Senior, but there’s really no need. I can handle the matters between me and him." Summer put down the fork in her hand and reached up to tuck her hair behind her ear.

Justin watched her uneasy expression, slowly clenched his fist, and after a while, managed a faint smile, "Are you rejecting me because of Maxim Sinclair?"

"No... It’s not possible." Summer shook her head resolutely in denial.

Yet this scene, in Justin’s eyes, only made it seem like she was saying one thing and meaning another.

"I once heard from Tina about the story between you and Maxim Sinclair. If you still have feelings for him, I can understand. But as friends for many years, I must remind you, Maxim Sinclair is not the right match for you."

Summer looked up at him, wanting to explain, but then thought that since the contract had already been signed, it wouldn’t be long before Maxim announced her becoming Mrs. Sinclair.

So, explaining too much today wouldn’t help; it was better to let things take their course.

Summer took a napkin, wiped her hands, and then stood up to clean the table, "Senior, it’s getting late. We should head back."

Seeing her unwillingness to talk more, Justin swallowed the remaining words he had and, after a long silence, said, "I can promise you one thing: I’ll always be here, waiting for you, as long as you’re willing to look back."

His words nearly brought tears to Summer’s eyes, but only nearly.

"I’ll always consider you my best friend, Senior."

Night fell.

After washing up, Summer and Vivian Sullivan lay on the balcony’s lounge chairs, each with a can of beer, drinking happily.

Vivian took a gulp of beer, sighed twice, and then looked up at Summer, "Finally, we can sit down and have a good chat. So, what’s going on with you and Maxim Sinclair? How did you end up signing such a humiliating agreement?" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Summer raised her head and drank several big gulps, then replied in a self-deprecating tone, "I don’t understand Maxim Sinclair’s reasoning either. Maybe what I did back then angered him, and he’s still upset with me. Or perhaps, people of their class have their unique ways of revenge, knowing that I’m strong-willed, so they use this method to wear down my spirit."

Vivian put on an unimpressed expression, "Couldn’t bear being dumped, huh? They had to save some face to feel better. Did you leave without a word back then? Dumped him unilaterally?"

"Quite close, I guess. I was eager to leave after getting the documents. If I delayed, I might have been caught." Summer gazed distantly at the night sky outside, "You’re right, strictly speaking, I dumped him, and in such a way that we didn’t even meet face-to-face. I just sent an email saying it was over and then disappeared."

Despite saying this, Summer couldn’t help but recall that incident.

If it hadn’t happened, she wouldn’t have disappeared so completely.

"Tsk tsk tsk, so he still holds a grudge about that? How petty." Vivian concluded confidently, "I guess people at their level only know how to move on after getting bored; they’re not used to being dumped coldly! You’ve caught his interest; maybe he wants to dump you now."

Summer smirked, "He must really have a lot of free time. Let him dump then, I’m not planning on staying in Stellarion any longer anyway."
