Chapter 115: Chapter 111: Undercurrents Surge 2

Wyatt Hawthorne and Lana Hawthorne exchanged a subtle glance; it seemed Jasper Hawthorne wanted a smooth marriage to Serena Jennings, but it wouldn’t be that easy...

After Wyatt, Jason, and the third child left, Eleanor Ford kept her son aside, "Jason, you and Stella have been together for a while now, why hasn’t she shown any signs of being pregnant?"

Jason Hawthorne sighed, "Mom, I already have Twinkle."

Eleanor Ford earnestly advised her son, "I know you love Twinkle very much, but after you and Stella get married, you’ll surely want to have another child, regardless of gender, your mother will like them."

Jason Hawthorne rubbed his forehead, "Mom, Twinkle doesn’t like her."

Eleanor Ford huffed, "What kind of talk is that! Are you not going to marry someone just because Twinkle doesn’t like them?"

Jason Hawthorne pursed his lips, "Mom, I don’t want to think about these things right now."

With that, he walked away.

Eleanor Ford looked at her son’s back in frustration, stamping her foot with no recourse.

It seemed she would have to have a good talk with Stella Jennings...

Laura Quincy had been staying at The Hawthorne Villa for the past few days, with a designated driver taking her to the hospital for rehabilitation during the day, and then bringing her back.

Twinkle accompanied her every day, and people at the hospital often mistook them for mother and son.

Even Mary said, "Twinkle has never been this clingy before."

Laura Quincy gave a shy smile, "I like Twinkle very much too. Every time I interact with him, I feel a strange connection."

Mary was somewhat touched, "The blood relationship between mother and child is indeed very peculiar."

Laura Quincy was stunned, "What?"

Mary immediately realized she misspoke and hastily covered it up, "Oh... I was just saying how peculiar the blood relationship is between a mother and child. I didn’t expect you and Twinkle to share that as well, just expressing my thoughts."

Laura Quincy didn’t think much of it, after all, Mary was a doctor, and she just viewed it from a medical perspective. As for her and Twinkle, how could they be mother and son?

She didn’t dwell on it.

Mary sighed in relief seeing Laura Quincy didn’t press further, as she would be in great trouble if she had let that slip...

That day, after finishing her rehab, Laura Quincy arranged to meet her university roommate, Yasmine Thorne, at the F University library. After chatting for a bit, they went off to do their own research.

Whenever she had to go to the library, Laura always preferred using her alma mater’s library. It had virtually every book one could need, and she was familiar with it, plus she could meet up with her university friends...

The time at the library seemed to fly by, and Laura Quincy happened to glance out the window, suddenly realizing it was already dark. She quickly rummaged through her bag for her phone and discovered five missed calls from Jason Hawthorne.

She thought to herself, oh no! Today, Twinkle was picked up by his grandmother, and she had agreed to meet Jason Hawthorne for dinner...

This could technically be counted as a date between them...

Without much thought, she quickly bid Yasmine Thorne farewell, "Yasmine, I’ve got something to do, I’ll be off! I’ll treat you to a meal next time!"

Yasmine Thorne knowingly waved her hand, "OK!"

She could tell, Laura was in love...

Laura Quincy called Jason Hawthorne as soon as she left the library.

It rang for quite a while before it was finally picked up.

"I was at the F University library doing research; I put my phone on silent mode and left it in my bag. I didn’t mean to miss your call!"

Laura Quincy hurriedly explained, not wanting any unnecessary misunderstandings.

"Didn’t we agree to have dinner together tonight?"

"The library was so quiet, and it’s easy to lose track of time while doing research..."

"Making excuses!"

"No, it’s true... I’m being honest..."

"Uh-huh!"

"I’m almost at the school gate; should I just take a cab over?" Laura Quincy deliberately changed the topic.

"I’ll have David come to pick you up."

"It’s not necessary."

"You just recovered from a leg injury; it’s not good to walk too much."

"Mmm..."

Upon hearing this, Laura Quincy felt a pleasant warmth in her heart, realizing how much he cared for her...

She then said, "Okay, I’ll walk slowly."

"Mm, you can also find a place to sit and wait for me."

Then, the call ended.

Holding the phone, Laura Quincy’s hand felt slightly warm, and so did her cheeks, turning red all the way to her ears.

The night breeze was cool, but in the depths of her heart, she felt as sweet as ever.

Just as she was lost in thought, her phone rang again, and Laura Quincy answered, "Hello?"

Jason Hawthorne’s voice was low and husky, "Send me your location."

Laura Quincy didn’t understand for a moment, "Huh?"

Jason Hawthorne had to repeat, "Send me your current location. Don’t tell me you’ve never used that feature?"

Laura Quincy’s cheeks grew hot, "I got it."

Ten minutes later.

A black limited edition Spyker C8 stopped next to Laura Quincy, and as soon as she got in, a certain man scolded, "Do you know how pigs die?"

Laura Quincy looked at him, bewildered by his sudden question.

"Huh? How do they die?"

"They die of stupidity!"

"Uh..."

Laura Quincy looked at him inexplicably, his gaze seemed to imply his words were directed at her.

For a moment, she felt like a flock of crows flew over her head.

Caw caw caw...

"I’m not like that."

She muttered under her breath.

Jason Hawthorne glanced at her lightly, "Was I talking about you? So eager to admit fault?"

Laura Quincy was completely taken aback by his dry humor, rendered speechless and petrified, while Jason Hawthorne hummed discontentedly, "What? Are you angry now?"

Laura quickly curved her lips into a smile, "No, I just tend to enter a state of shock out of habit."

Jason’s fingers brushed against her fair cheeks, his gaze both gentle and piercing, "Woman, don’t try to deceive me. Dishonesty is what I hate the most."

Laura wore an innocent smile, "In front of you, how dare I! Any little thoughts I have are immediately exposed by you, leaving no room for maneuver."

Jason pulled her to sit on his lap, "As long as you know."

Laura internally rolled her eyes; The Demon King truly is crafty and cunning! She totally can’t win against him!

Back at the villa, Laura was "pressed" by Jason Hawthorne to eat a lot, and after eating, she was dragged upstairs, only managing to break free from Jason’s grip, "My stomach is already as round as a ball!"

Jason’s eyes involuntarily glued to her flat little belly, "It’s clearly flat."

"You certainly wouldn’t know because it’s not in your stomach!"

Laura pouted angrily; she knew very well how much her stomach could hold.

Suddenly, Jason reached out and touched her belly. Sure enough, it was a bit more rounded than usual, not the same feeling as usual.

"Your stomach is too small; just a little bit of food fills you up."

"I haven’t even eaten that much, and you’re already treating me like a pig!"

Laura stared at him, indignant.

Jason was unfazed, "Sometimes you really do resemble a little pig."

Laura wanted nothing more than to punch him; how does she resemble a little pig?

She quickly pouted and said, "Don’t go randomly giving me animal nicknames, okay? I do have a name."

Jason let out a cold snort, choosing not to comment.

Laura didn’t want to be alone on the second floor with him; it always felt... very dangerous.

Hastily, she shifted the topic, "Oh dear! My stomach really is so full! Let’s go for a walk in the backyard!"

She looked at Jason with eager eyes.

For a long while—

Jason lazily glanced at her, then turned and walked toward the backyard.

Oh yeah!

Laura happily followed, feeling overjoyed inside, though her expression remained calm, showing no hint of the delight she felt.

Despite being winter, today the weather was quite nice, the sky full of stars.

Laura saw the various flowers in the flower bed blooming beautifully, suddenly feeling the urge to pick some fresh petals to take back for a bath.

"Can I pick a few flowers?"

Jason spoke indifferently, "You don’t need to ask me for things like that; take as many as you want. Let the staff pick them."

"I’ll do it myself, I like to choose the ones I like."

"What about me then?"

The implication in Jason’s words was: Are you expecting me to stand here and watch you pick flowers?

Laura didn’t think too deeply and casually said, "You hold them for me!"

Jason’s lips twitched; he couldn’t imagine himself holding flowers.

With the dim lighting in the backyard, Laura didn’t notice Jason’s subtle expression changes and merrily turned to head towards the flower bed; though the flowers competed in beauty, she couldn’t bear to pick too many, cautiously plucking a few roses and lavenders...

"Not done yet?"

Jason was growing a bit impatient.

Laura picked two lilies, "All done, all done!"

By the time she came out of the flower bed, Jason’s face had turned as dark as the night, letting out a cold hum, "Women are such a hassle!"

Laura glared at him, "If you have the ability, make all the women in the world disappear!"

Jason stopped and looked at her, "Your mouth is getting sharper?"

Laura murmured, "I’m just speaking the truth."

After walking two more steps, Jason’s gaze suddenly fixed on a point. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Laura looked at him in confusion, "Why did you stop?"

Jason’s lips moved slightly, "I think I just saw a snake slither by..."

"Ah—"

He hadn’t finished speaking when Laura let out a scream and leaped into his arms, catching him by surprise, not understanding what happened to her.

Laura clung to him like an octopus, not daring to look around for fear of seeing something that would frighten her.

So scary!

Every time she came to the backyard before, she never encountered something so frightening; from now on, she must be cautious when coming here!

"Is it gone?"

"What?"

Jason was slightly puzzled.

"The thing you just mentioned... that!"

"Oh... it’s long gone without a trace."

"Did you see where it went?"

"It moved so fast, how could I see?"

"So, there’s still a chance we might see it later?"

Jason nodded thoughtfully, "Hmm, it’s possible."

Laura was too scared to get down, clinging to him tightly like a koala.

"Weren’t we supposed to walk? Come down."

Jason, who had already sensed her thoughts, deliberately teased her.

Laura shook her head hard, "No! Let’s go back."
