Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!-Chapter 114 - 110: Surging Undercurrents 1
At that moment, John had already finished work and was on a date with his girlfriend Mary, but due to a call from his friend, he hurried back. Upon seeing their family of three standing intimately together, he clicked his tongue repeatedly, "What’s going on here?"
Jason’s expression was indifferent, "It’s exactly what you see."
John’s mouth formed an "O" shape, wanting to ask something but held back.
When Laura went for her check-up, he pulled his friend aside, "I heard your nephew’s girlfriend is pregnant, and at this critical moment, you’re still seen together with Laura. Aren’t you afraid of catching the eye of those with ulterior motives?" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Jason lit a cigarette for himself, "My elder brother doesn’t have time to keep an eye on me these days. As for my second brother, he’s been getting quite close with the Xavier Family, looking towards a marriage alliance."
John clicked his tongue in amazement, "So you are scheming from a thousand miles away! After staying on Sapphire Island for three days, you’re aware of the movements of your two elder brothers at home."
Jason flicked the cigarette ash, "Just a habit."
John knew it hadn’t been easy for him all these years. Sitting in this position is like being surrounded by wolves in front and tigers behind, one careless move and he’d fall from the top.
Reaching this position meant overcoming challenges and obstacles they hadn’t faced, which led to Jason’s character becoming so cold.
Laura, to him, might be an unusually bright light in his life!
He chose her from so many people, and then five years later, they met again because of their son. Perhaps it’s a destined fate in the dark.
"If you need any help, just say the word. The rest of us are always here."
"Mm."
In Jason’s heart, John along with Asher, Silas, and Landon, were brothers bonded by life and death. Without their full support, it would’ve been difficult for him to maintain his position all these years...
"Over at the Xavier Family, they’ve got quite an impressive talent."
"What do you mean?"
"Have you heard of the famous lawyer in the legal world, Counselor Jonah Xavier?"
Jason thought for two seconds, "I’ve heard Asher mention him before, a lawyer specializing in international litigation cases, who’s never had a losing case."
John nodded, "That’s him! He’s got a big name in the legal world, reportedly co-founded a law firm with a friend during university. Now, his firm is so popular that without connections, you probably have to wait until next year for an appointment."
Jason had heard Asher talk about some of his stories. The reason he knew about him was because the company faced an international litigation case. The legal department’s lawyers didn’t dare confidently claim they could win the case, so Asher recommended Jonah Xavier to him.
"Is he part of the Xavier Family too?"
"Yeah! He’s the Fifth Young Master of the Xavier Family! Reportedly, he’s also Old Master Xavier’s most cherished grandson. It’s just a pity his ambitions don’t lie in business, which is a bit regrettable."
"Who currently holds the power in the Xavier Family?"
"Jonah’s father, and additionally, his elder brother is currently the Vice President of the company. It’s a family full of hidden currents!" John sighed.
Jason slightly hooked his lips, "This Fifth Young Master of the Xavier Family is indeed quite special."
John continued, "Right? And do you know? The person your second brother has his eyes on is him!"
Jason was slightly surprised, "Oh? That doesn’t seem like my second brother’s style! Although Jonah is Old Master Xavier’s most cherished grandson, it’s clear his ambitions aren’t in business. Marrying a daughter to him surely isn’t as secure as marrying a General Manager."
John laughed twice, "The General Manager has been married for a long time, and your niece has set her sights on Jonah Xavier himself. I think your second brother weighed the pros and cons before making that decision."
Jason gently exhaled a smoke ring, "My second brother certainly married into a good backing this time."
John nodded, "Exactly! They all want a piece of your cake!"
Jason’s lips formed a slight smile, though his eyes were cold, he wouldn’t let them have their way!
After the attending doctor conducted a detailed examination on Laura, and instructed her to start rehabilitation therapy at the hospital the next day, Justin quickly exclaimed, "Sister, starting tomorrow, I’ll accompany you for rehab at the hospital. You’ll definitely get better soon!"
Laura gently touched Justin’s soft hair lovingly, "Mm! Sister will definitely get better quickly."
Justin giggled and snuggled against her. After spending three days together with his sister, he didn’t want to part from her even more...
John and Mary saw this scene and exchanged a glance, blood ties truly are wonderful!
Jason looked at the warm interaction between the mother and son before him, further strengthening his resolve to give his son a complete home.
The next day.
The Hawthorne Estate.
Except for Justin, the entire Hawthorne family had gathered.
The eldest couple of the Hawthorne Family, the second Hawthorne Family with their four members, the third Hawthorne Family with their three members, along with Jason and his mother Eleanor Ford, were all seated in the living room.
Everyone had their own thoughts, while Old Master Hawthorne and Jasper Hawthorne had been in the study upstairs for half an hour without coming out.
Penny Leighton, the eldest son’s wife, expressed her concern to her husband, "Honey, do you think Dad will scold Jasper? Being pregnant isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and Jasper’s not young anymore; he’s at the age to get married."
Wade Hawthorne comforted his wife, "Stop worrying unnecessarily."
Wyatt Hawthorne interjected sarcastically, "Big brother, you really should give congratulations! Your Jasper is sure fast, far ahead of everyone else!"
His words had underlying meaning, which Wade Hawthorne caught onto, "Second brother, I heard you’ve been getting close with the Xavier Family lately. Are you perhaps helping Vivian find a nephew-in-law? If there’s already a prospect, won’t you be having a grandchild soon?"
May Dempsey retorted in dissatisfaction, "Big brother, do you think everyone’s like your daughter-in-law? A girl should know to respect and love herself! Pregnant before marriage, what does that look like? It’ll ruin one’s reputation when spread around!"
Vivian Hawthorne’s face turned red as she chimed in, "Uncle, I didn’t provoke you, so why talk about me?"
Wade Hawthorne’s expression soured after being called out by both his sister-in-law and niece, just about to speak, when Eleanor Ford gracefully put down her teacup, "Let’s all say a few less words. An unmarried girl’s premarital pregnancy is indeed not a glorious matter. Vivian is your niece, Wade; your words are indeed inappropriate."
Wade Hawthorne was instantly infuriated.
The Wyatt Hawthorne family, on the other hand, was secretly pleased. Regardless, they needed to maintain good relations with the third branch now, even if the eldest branch truly formed an alliance with the Jennings Family, they could rely on the third branch to preserve their strength and seek new breakthroughs.
Penny Leighton, seeing her husband suffer a loss, couldn’t help but stick up for him, "Auntie Ford, my Wade wasn’t implying anything about Vivian. It’s just that second brother said our Jasper was too fast, so Wade responded in kind. Vivian and Nicole are the only twins in the Hawthorne Family, we haven’t loved them enough, how could we make jokes at their expense!"
May Dempsey snorted coldly, clearly disdaining her words.
Eleanor Ford took a small sip of tea, then instructed a servant, "Go change the tea pot, the old master prefers this year’s new Bi Luo Chun."
The servant responded and left.
Everyone fell silent, knowing that Old Master Hawthorne would be coming down soon.
Jason Hawthorne remained silent from beginning to end, never engaging in the open or covert struggles of the Hawthorne Family.
He was never good at verbal sparring, nor did he care to engage in it!
Just as the tea was ready, Old Master Hawthorne came down from the second-floor study with his grandson Jasper Hawthorne, their timing was impeccable. Even Jason Hawthorne couldn’t help but admire his mother; she had mastered his father’s living habits over the years.
Wade Hawthorne, Wyatt Hawthorne, and Lana Hawthorne were also impressed with Auntie Ford; they had known long ago that this woman was no simple figure, a reason they didn’t dare to act excessively before her.
A woman able to keep a philandering man by her side for over thirty years is no small feat.
Penny Leighton was wholly focused on her son, rushing up to him as soon as she saw him, concernedly asking, "Son, what did your grandpa say to you?"
Jasper Hawthorne reassured his mother, "Mom, I’m okay."
Old Master Hawthorne glared at them both, "Look at the son you raised! Premarital pregnancy! How does that look when it gets around?"
Penny Leighton retorted with grievance, "Dad, if we don’t say anything, who will know?"
Old Master Hawthorne had no tolerance for backtalk, his eyes widened, and he threw the teacup his wife had just handed him to the ground.
With a loud "crash", the room fell silent, and Penny Leighton was so frightened she trembled all over and dared not speak again.
"Serena Jennings’ pregnancy is already widely known! Wasn’t this your plan? Did you think getting her pregnant would ensure her marrying into the Hawthorne Family?"
Old Master Hawthorne spoke with evident anger.
Eleanor Ford immediately soothed him with tenderness, "Your health is important, if you don’t care for yourself, I do!"
Her words were sincere, full of concern, and her gentle and soft voice would calm any man’s anger...
Old Master Hawthorne was very receptive to her approach and held her hand, "Only you care for me this way."
Eleanor Ford sweetly curved her lips, "Here, try the Bi Luo Chun I brewed."
Old Master Hawthorne sipped from the cup and nodded, "Hmm, it’s good!"
The two openly showed affection in front of the younger generation, leaving others silent; in the Hawthorne Family, only Auntie Ford and Twinkle dared to talk to Old Master Hawthorne when he was angry.
The third branch had its own people, no wonder Jason Hawthorne could securely maintain his position as heir.
After a long time, Old Master Hawthorne turned his gaze to the children and grandchildren, "I’ll discuss the marriage between Jasper and Serena with Old Master Jennings privately."
Wade Hawthorne wanted to ask something but swallowed his words. His father’s words were already explicit enough, asking further would make him seem ignorant.
It might even have a counterproductive effect.
