Closer to Revealing My True Self-Chapter 741 - 475: Seemingly Quiet (Part 1)
Chapter 741: Chapter 475: Seemingly Quiet (Part 1)
Steve had wanted to offer his help, but when he turned around, there was no one in sight.
However, thinking of Feng Yi’s professional ability, he didn’t worry. Besides, there were the villagers from the tribe.
Compared to Steve’s trust, the Chieftain was a bit more concerned.
Seeing Steve quickly immerse himself in work again, the Chieftain did not disturb him, stepping out of the tent, he instructed the villagers waiting outside to find someone to follow him.
The rainforest was fraught with dangers, and it was hard to say what kind of emergencies might arise.
The villagers acted quickly, this didn’t require secrecy, and a few people swiftly took up the task.
In theory, this area was within their regular routes, a familiar territory, yet on their own ground, they found themselves unable to catch up with the foreigner!
How exactly the other person moved was a mystery to them, darting here and there as if walking on flat ground, completely ignoring the rooted vines that were like traps, soon disappearing into the rainforest.
The villagers: ???
Who was the native now?!
Proceeding in the general direction where Feng Yi had gone, they suddenly heard water splashing; they rushed over and saw the expert hauling a large anaconda out of the river, dragging it onto the bank.
The villagers: !!!
He had started acting so quickly?!
They wanted to help, but by the time they ran over, he had already pulled the snake out!
His manner, like pulling a log out of the water, didn’t look like he was handling a live jungle beast.
For a moment, the villagers thought the beast had been killed. Otherwise, why wouldn’t it resist or struggle?
But they quickly realized the large anaconda was still alive, unharmed!
Amidst their baffled expressions, they saw the large snake being draped around Feng Yi’s body like a scarf after being dragged out of the water.
Feng Yi paused for a moment, as if remembering something, then unraveled a portion of the snake from his body, dragging it on the grass. He looked up, smiled at the villagers, greeted them, and then headed back with the snake, still at a good pace.
This series of actions had bewildered the villagers; unsure of what to do, they mechanically followed him.
They clearly remembered the last time a scientific expedition came here to record data on anacondas. Catching one about the same size, it took several people cooperating to lift it into the boat, and someone was even injured in the process.
But that scene they had just witnessed, if it hadn’t unfolded before their eyes, they would have thought he was carrying a prop!
What kind of expert is this?
Some villagers came to their senses and caught up to offer their help carrying the snake.
Feng Yi politely refused.
This anaconda, though compliant when caught by Feng Yi, might not be the same with others handling it. It was slightly temperamental.
Carrying a large snake, Feng Yi could have continued sprinting, but considering what was reasonable, he significantly slowed down his pace.
When Feng Yi returned with the large anaconda to the tent, both Steve and the Chieftain almost turned green.
The Chieftain was speechless, his worldview shattered.
Steve was assaulted by a memory, a similar scene flashing through his mind.
He thought back to the first time he took Feng Yi on a mountain expedition, similar to now, with a large snake wrapped around the other’s body as he ran over.
As if he was missing a screw in his head, yet everything seemed fine.
Next to him, the Chieftain, pointing at Feng Yi, opened and closed his mouth: "You... doing this..."
Feng Yi: "I have great strength."
Steve, with an expressionless face, nodded: "Yeah, it’s not the first time he’s done something like this."
The Chieftain looked at the "cargo" that Feng Yi had set down. The robust physique of this anaconda wasn’t inflatable; it was all solid muscle!
There were indeed many strong people, not just carrying tens of kilograms, Steve had even seen someone run while carrying a hundred kilograms.
But the issue was, what Feng Yi was carrying wasn’t an inanimate object, but an untamed, incommunicable, ferocious beast of the rainforest!
It was a close-distance creature that could bring fatal threats, capable of biting and employing constricting techniques that could suffocate a person with its muscular strength!
The power of the constricting force of large snakes was well known to those who had lived in the rainforest for generations!
In past expeditions, the experts always tried to avoid getting entangled with anacondas. The muscle press of these beasts could crush the bones of their prey.
If really wrapped around one’s body, forget running, even breathing would be difficult!
What kind of expert would transport a large snake by wrapping it around their body?
This is not rational!
This isn’t professional!!
Then the Chieftain looked again at the laid-down anaconda.
He recognized it.
It was during the conversation on the canoe, with the same one they had encountered. The Chieftain remembered that not long after he finished talking with Feng Yi, the giant python entered the water and switched locations along the river.
They still couldn’t avoid it!
Feng Yi didn’t bother with the Chieftain’s dilemma, arranging the captured comparison group next to the skeleton.
The skeleton was not complete, sparse and heavily fragmented, but its rough appearance and size were already discernible.
The "comparison group" they caught measured over five meters, which was already the limit for individuals in the wild; they wouldn’t grow much more. Yet, compared to the giant creature’s skeleton, it resembled an adult next to a young child!
"Let’s take pictures before the main team arrives," Steve said, as he arranged the skeleton, set up the camera, and prepared the background.
This place had significant limitations; it was impossible to find enough space to set up a tent in the forest. Now, the assembled bones of the giant beast Serpan were not a vertical long line but curled, with some parts supported and fixed by special braces.
The "comparison group," being a living creature, Steve thought about how to adjust it suitably, when he saw Feng Yi swiftly pose the python to create a clearer contrast.
The rainforest predator, usually fierce and untamable, was now as docile as a toy—if it weren’t for the occasional flicking of its tongue, one would think it had lost consciousness.
Steve checked on the health status of the "comparison group" with concern. Though the love had shifted, it was still love.
No illness was found. The comparison group was in good health.
With Steve’s indescribable expression and the Chieftain’s bewildered face, Feng Yi set the position for the comparison group:
"We can take the shot now!"
Steve readied the camera and joined in.
The Chieftain snapped back to reality and approached quickly. He had already tidied his clothing and accessories; now, all he needed to do was face the camera with his best appearance. He knew this photo would surely be reported by the media! He could not be absent from the frame!
Just as they were ready to take the shot, Steve frowned and corrected, "Feng Yi, don’t mislead the public in front of the camera!"
No matter what the private situation, one must ensure professionalism and rigor when facing the public.
"Oh, right!"
Feng Yi immediately switched to a professional posture, making it look as though he was subduing the comparison group.
After the hustle and bustle, the photo shoot was complete.
Two group photos.
In one photo was the skeleton of the giant beast Serpan, and in the other, a computer-generated restoration based on the skeleton, with three adults and a living large python for scale, presenting a clearer idea of the enormity of the "giant beast Serpan!"
After the photo shoot, Feng Yi and Steve continued to search for more bones of the giant creature in the rainforest.
Meanwhile, back in the country.
At the Joint Protection Bureau Expert Committee, Director He continued to review the work reports and task plans of various experts.
In addition to the work-related ones, he also reviewed the itineraries of experts who were not on duty. Not the detailed schedules, just the records of information that needed the fast-tracking associated with certified expert status.
Upon inspection, he noticed something was off.
"Why has Steve also run off to the rainforest?"
Director He knew Feng Yi was there, but Steve, who was supposedly focused on renovations, had suddenly made an urgent flight over? What for?
He searched the records again and confirmed that Steve used the green channel for rapid processing. Indeed, this man had rushed over in the shortest possible time.
What could be so pressing as to make Steve leave his work and fly there in haste?
Not even the Butterfly Project had distracted Steve, so what else could warrant such urgency?
If there was a security issue in the rainforest, they should have contacted the relevant person in charge at the Joint Protection Bureau. What could Steve do by going there?
Knowing him for many years, Director He understood Steve well.
It must be something Steve cared about deeply to provoke such a reaction.
Steve, along with Feng Yi, these two people coming together at this time, made Director He suspect something.
Back when they were hunting pythons in Florida, they had promised to comply, but as soon as they were out of sight, they ran wild as the hounds, as impetuous as pigs.
Neither were the types to sit still!
And now, together again, yet concealing their moves and whispers.
It seemed eerily quiet.
But Director He’s first reaction was: Are these two up to something big again?
Suddenly, he felt an unease settling in.
Director He looked grave and without hesitation, retrieved a number and dialed it.
He didn’t go to Feng Yi first because he wasn’t sure if they were up to mischief. Instead, he decided to reach out to Steve, who exhibited unusual behavior.
Steve carried a satellite phone specifically provided by the Joint Protection Bureau. The call connected quickly.
Director He took a deep breath, his tone even, "Steve, do you have work that needs to be reported to me?"
