Chapter 639: Chapter 639: Too Cruel to Her

Ji Wei woke up again to find herself lying in a hospital.

The sharp smell of disinfectant lingered at the tip of her nose, making her frown slightly. She slowly moved her eyes and saw the IV needle on the back of her hand, with the drip bottle still half full.

Ji Wei tried to sit up but felt completely powerless, quickly falling back down again.

"Sister Wei, you’re awake?"

Qin Sixue pushed open the hospital room door and walked in. Seeing her attempting to get up, she hurried over to support her and placed a pillow behind her back for comfort.

"Si Xue, did you bring me to the hospital?" Ji Wei asked her, lips pale and voice faint.

"Yes." Qin Sixue nodded, "I was on my way to look for you, but I found you passed out, so I brought you here."

Qin Sixue twisted open the thermos she was holding, and the savory aroma of chicken soup immediately filled the air. She brought it to Ji Wei and said with a smile, "Our housekeeper made this. Sister Wei, try some."

Ji Wei looked at the thermos in front of her but didn’t reach for it.

She had been troubled by matters concerning Gu Moqian recently, with no appetite for food and restless nights. The blow from Gu Moqian not returning had only worsened things, which was why she had suddenly collapsed.

Even though she hadn’t eaten anything for almost half a day, she still didn’t have the appetite now.

"Sister Wei, the baby in your stomach needs nutrition. Please eat something, even just a little." Qin Sixue pushed the thermos closer, her words sincere and earnest.

Baby...

Ji Wei suddenly froze and instinctively looked at her swollen belly.

Gu Moqian had been so eager for their child to be born. No matter what, she couldn’t let anything happen to the baby.

"Thank you, Si Xue..." Ji Wei finally reached out to take the thermos. The chicken soup was still steaming hot. She lowered her head and took a few sips, her eyes unconsciously reddening.

"Sister Wei, drink some more. It’s good for your body. I’ll have the housekeeper bring more this afternoon."

Ji Wei looked at her with gratitude, hesitating for a moment before she suddenly spoke, "Si Xue, I need your help with something."

"Sister Wei, just tell me."

"Can you get in touch with Second Young Master Xi? There’s something I need to ask him." Regarding Gu Moqian’s situation, Ji Wei felt Xi Nanfeng might know more.

Upon hearing this, Qin Sixue smiled and replied, "Actually, Brother Nanfeng is already on his way. I told him that you’re in the hospital, and he said he’s coming to see you."

Ji Wei was stunned for a moment and slowly nodded.

It didn’t take long before Xi Nanfeng appeared in the hospital room.

"You two talk. I’ll step outside for a while." Qin Sixue smiled as she got up, and while passing by Xi Nanfeng, she shot him a deep glance, a hint of bashfulness flashing in her eyes.

She lowered her head and quickly walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Xi Nanfeng pulled up a chair to sit in front of the hospital bed. He remained unusually silent, his expression somber.

Ji Wei, however, couldn’t suppress her urgency. She immediately spoke up, "Second Young Master, do you know what’s going on with Mo Qian?"

Xi Nanfeng looked at her, hesitating to speak. After a long pause, he finally answered, "He’s doing fine. Don’t worry."

"I don’t believe you." Ji Wei retorted, the anxiety in her pretty eyes uncontainable. "He’s not answering my calls, nor replying to any of my messages. He promised he’d be gone for only a week, and now he hasn’t returned. Something must have happened to him!"

Her emotions were agitated, and as she spoke, the IV tube on the back of her hand swayed along with her movements.

Xi Nanfeng’s expression stiffened. His lips moved slightly, and he forced out a single word, "He..." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

The rest of the sentence was too cruel for Ji Wei to hear; he couldn’t bring himself to say it.

"What’s happened to him?" Ji Wei tightly clenched her palms, biting her pale lips as she trembled and pressed him for answers.

Xi Nanfeng stared directly at her, then steeled himself and said, "He... won’t be coming back for the time being."
