Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 610: A Grown Man Still Acting Coy
Ji Wei saw that Xiao Xin remained silent, so she didn’t say much more and signaled her to continue eating breakfast. "Hurry up and eat, or it’ll get cold soon."
Xiao Xin was a very smart girl; she naturally understood the deeper meaning behind Ji Wei’s words.
She was a journalist, and her pen had the power to stir public opinion and incite waves of discussion. Therefore, before putting pen to paper, she needed to exercise caution and rigor. If her words were exploited by those with ulterior motives, not only would it ruin the career she loved, it could also harm others.
Xiao Xin silently finished her breakfast.
"Since you’re already here, why not accompany me for a stroll nearby later?"
Ji Wei said with a smile, then went upstairs to change clothes. When she came back down, she saw Xiao Xin intently working on her laptop. Without interrupting her, Ji Wei waited until Xiao Xin had finished before approaching her.
"I’ve sent out the article," Xiao Xin said when she saw her.
"Do what you think is best; I have no objections," Ji Wei replied.
Xiao Xin put her laptop back into her bag, and the two of them headed out. But just as they reached the villa’s entrance, they encountered Jin Qichuan arguing with the security guards.
"Mr. Jin, you really can’t go in. Please don’t make things difficult for us..." The security guard’s face was strained as he spoke, his collar gripped by Jin Qichuan, almost lifted off the ground.
"Brother, what are you doing here?" Xiao Xin called out.
Upon hearing her, Jin Qichuan turned his head, his gaze sweeping over Xiao Xin first and then lingering on Ji Wei for a few seconds, his expression subtly changing. He let go of the security guard and walked toward them.
"Hello, Mr. Jin," Ji Wei nodded politely.
Jin Qichuan’s jet-black eyes held an unreadable emotion as he spoke warmly, "I’m here to check on Xiao Xin. She ran off early in the morning, and I was worried she’d get herself into trouble again."
"I was the one who invited her over. Being pregnant at home has been a bit dull, so I thought she could keep me company," Ji Wei said with a smile.
"Hear that?" Xiao Xin shot a glare at Jin Qichuan, her tone pouty. "Coming here in such a rush to interrogate me—classic behavior for my dear brother!"
Jin Qichuan was momentarily stunned by her rebuttal.
"Since Mr. Jin is already here, would you like to come in and sit for a while?" Ji Wei offered courteously.
"No need. You seem to be heading out, so I won’t impose," Jin Qichuan declined, as if recalling something.
"We’re just taking a walk nearby; it’s not anything important."
"I see..." Jin Qichuan’s expression wavered slightly.
"Brother, if you want to stay, just say so. Why act so hesitant when you’re a grown man?" Xiao Xin couldn’t hold back and teased him.
Jin Qichuan gave her a warning glance.
Xiao Xin simply ignored it and strode ahead, calling out, "Sister Wei, didn’t you say there are wild white egrets in the nearby park? I want to check them out!"
Ji Wei noticed Jin Qichuan still standing there and smiled. "Mr. Jin, would you like to join us?"
Jin Qichuan seemed momentarily taken aback but nodded. "Sure."
The wetland park was close by.
Along the way, Xiao Xin spared no effort in playfully mocking her brother. Normally, Jin Qichuan was quick-witted and articulate, but today he seemed a beat slower. Xiao Xin completely dominated their verbal sparring.
Ji Wei listened to the siblings’ amusing banter, a smile lingering softly on her lips.
Her serene smile caught Jin Qichuan’s attention several times, momentarily distracting him.
Shortly after, Xiao Xin suddenly spotted a nest of bird eggs in the grass. She quietly approached to take photos with her phone. Seeing wild bird eggs for the first time, Xiao Xin was visibly thrilled.
Ji Wei couldn’t help but laugh at the sight. "Your sister is actually quite lively and lovable."
"Lovable? She’s been spoiled since childhood, practically treated like a princess in the family," Jin Qichuan remarked bluntly.
"You only have Xiao Xin as a sister, right?"
"Apart from Xiao Xin, I also have a younger brother named Jin Xu," Jin Qichuan replied.
"Your brother—he’s a big star, isn’t he?" Ji Wei recalled a boy she had seen in a hotel hallway once, fashionably dressed and exuding star quality.
"Just an idol singer," Jin Qichuan responded dismissively.
"These days, singers are quite talented. If there’s ever a chance, I’d love to hear him perform live," Ji Wei said.
Just as Jin Qichuan was about to reply, Xiao Xin came running back, hopping and skipping, clutching something in her hands.
