Chapter 445: Chapter 445: Stay Still

Gu Moqian’s brow raised slightly. How could he not see through her little tricks?

"Come here," he said in a faint tone.

"Alright..."

Ji Wei swallowed nervously, discreetly tossing the spicy snacks she’d hidden behind her onto the coffee table, then feigned nonchalance as she walked over.

"Sit down." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

S-Sit... down?

Ji Wei’s heart fluttered with unease, but she had no choice but to obediently sit down by the bed.

She assumed she was about to get scolded fiercely by Gu Moqian and was so scared she nearly closed her eyes. Instead, she heard a quiet buzzing noise by her ear.

The man’s long, slender fingers combed through her wet hair with a gentle motion.

Warmth surged through Ji Wei’s heart.

So he had only wanted to help her dry her hair. Perhaps she’d been judging him unfairly, thinking the worst of him.

Ji Wei couldn’t resist stealing a glance at Gu Moqian. As soon as she turned her head, though, his voice stopped her: "Stay still and behave." His tone was somewhat stern, and she suddenly didn’t dare move anymore.

"You’ve just gotten over a cold, yet you dare step out with wet hair. Do you want to get sick again?" The man’s voice was cold and firm.

But his words were filled with concern.

Realizing he wasn’t upset about the spicy snacks, Ji Wei suddenly felt brave. She straightened up and retorted matter-of-factly, "If I hadn’t left, who knows how many times you would’ve tormented me? You even said I was just recovering. How could I possibly withstand that kind of..."

Halfway through her sentence, her voice grew quieter and quieter.

A particular, indescribable scene from the bathroom surfaced in her mind... The two of them standing, with him pressing her against the tiled wall from behind—an experience that was equal parts pain and pleasure.

"What kind of ’that’?" he asked, feigning ignorance.

Ji Wei froze, biting her lush, crimson lips, refusing to say another word.

The hairdryer buzzed steadily as the man’s fingertips gently stroked her smooth, silky hair, yet his deep, dark eyes glimmered with barely concealed amusement.

Grumble, grumble—

The sudden, oddly out-of-place sounds made Ji Wei awkwardly clutch her stomach and turn her head. "I’m hungry, that’s all. Just my stomach protesting, haha."

Gu Moqian quietly put the hairdryer away, his expression unreadable, as though he hadn’t heard her words at all.

Left with no choice, Ji Wei muttered, "I don’t know why, but I’ve been craving something spicy."

Gu Moqian paused while winding the cord of the hairdryer and looked at her. "You... could you be pre—"

"Absolutely not."

Ji Wei quickly waved her hands. The last thing she wanted was another misunderstanding about a fake pregnancy. The two lines on the test last time had been false. This time, just craving something spicy certainly couldn’t mean she was pregnant—that would be way too far-fetched.

"Why don’t we go to the hospital for a check-up?" Gu Moqian asked, still worried.

"In a couple of days. For now, I want to go see my dad," Ji Wei said.

She’d made up her mind: regarding her origins, she needed to confront Ji Yunli directly. Even if she wasn’t his daughter, she needed clarity about her birth parents.

Gu Moqian, knowing this was a matter weighing heavily on her heart, didn’t push further.

After heading downstairs, the two had a simple breakfast.

Before leaving, Ji Wei gave Ji Yunli a call.

Ji Yunli told her to meet him directly at the Ji Family’s office building.

After getting out of the car, Gu Moqian gently patted her head, his eyes soft. "Go on. If anything comes up, give me a call."

Ji Wei hugged him briefly before walking inside.

She didn’t visit the Ji Family’s offices often, but as soon as she entered, the reception staff instantly recognized her and eagerly escorted her to the CEO’s office.

Ji Yunli was sitting with his back to the door, one hand propping up his head, looking visibly weary.

Hearing movement at the door, he quickly swiveled his chair around. After hesitating for a few seconds, he called out, "Little Wei..."

"Mr. Ji." Ji Wei suddenly addressed him in a formal tone. "I hope I’m not taking up too much of your time?"

The words "Mr. Ji" drained the color from Ji Yunli’s face. He froze mid-step, his movements stiff as though rooted in place.
