CLEAVER OF SIN-Chapter 584: Had To Ask
With one swift motion, Asher sheathed Virelass into her scabbard. His eyes looked around the battlefield, and all that remained were dried corpses, as Virelass had drunk every drop of blood.
’She must be pissed,’ Asher thought to himself as he shook his head. His mind shifted from Virelass to Number Five, and he couldn’t help but sigh. That man was truly dangerous; his potential was also dangerous.
Asher stared to the side, his Star Energy flowing outward as he activated Star Sense. Without wasting time, he started walking ever so slowly, his steps light and unhurried. Within seconds, he arrived before a shadow that seemed no different from normal shadows. Asher didn’t speak. He just stood there in silence and simply stared. A minute passed, and still there was no reaction, and so he finally spoke.
"Do I have to drag you out myself?" he asked, his tone calm, yet filled with danger.
Another silence tore through the ruined battlefield. At this moment, Asher was talking to the protectors who had been assigned to protect those six scientists. From the moment the battle started between Asher and their organization, the protectors didn’t rush to fight Asher. Their mission had always been to ensure the survival of the scientists, nothing more, nothing less. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
And how did they achieve that despite a battle of such magnitude?
The answer was simple, they had simply transferred themselves and the scientists into a shadow and hid there. Normal attacks couldn’t reach them, and thus they remained protected, hidden away within the darkness.
The shadows stirred and around Asher, twelve people gradually came into being, the six scientists and their six protectors. The moment they appeared, they immediately used shadow barriers to cover the scientists, protecting them to the very end.
Asher could see the fear and sweat on the scientists’ faces. He didn’t need to ask to know that they had probably watched the entire battle from within the shadows they had been hiding in.
The six protectors encircled Asher, their weapons drawn, their Astra energy ready to erupt as they stared at him, as though waiting for him to make the first move. After all, they were only here to protect and nothing more.
Although they possessed shadow escape skills and techniques, they knew those abilities would be useless if their opponent could sense and see through shadows. Although they didn’t know whether Asher’s attacks could enter the shadow realm itself, it was best not to be caught off guard. After all, they couldn’t truly block or attack effectively from within the shadow realm they had been hiding in.
"You know," Asher began to speak slowly, his voice calm yet contemplative, "I can never understand it," he gestured faintly around him, "you just saw me wipe out hundreds of your comrades, wipe out your top six aside from your leader, wipe out an entire wave of monsters," he paused for a moment, his gaze meeting the protectors’, "and yet, you still draw your blades as though you could make a difference," his tone wasn’t mocking; instead, it carried a genuine curiosity, "you know how this will end. Why not run? What makes you so loyal to your organization? What makes you risk your lives so recklessly?" he asked.
Although he wasn’t one to talk on a battlefield, he simply had to ask. If he had been in their shoes and had witnessed someone do what he had just done, he would have escaped immediately before the battle even ended.
Yet these fools were still here. But the six protectors didn’t speak, they met Asher’s words with nothing but silence, their eyes remained cold and resolute, their weapons in hand.
Asher simply sighed, then he slowly shook his head, with that single motion, he vanished from where he stood. His hand blurred across the neck of one of the protectors, and the man’s head soared into the air before the rest could even process what had happened.
The others tried to react, but Asher was faster, his body became a phantom, flickering through space as he blurred between them like a ghost of death. Hand flashed through the air with terrifying precision and within a couple of seconds, six bodies hit the ground with muffled thuds.
Blood floated and spread across the destroyed battlefield, soaking the already ruined ground, there was no need to drag out the battle, he could already tell that Debro’s fight with the Rank 6 Emovira was coming to an end.
His purple eyes shifted toward the six shadow barriers.
With the deaths of their creators, the barriers immediately shattered and crumbled into fading black motes before disappearing entirely.
With that, the six scientists came into full view, the moment they saw the deaths of their protectors, they screamed and turned around, running for their lives. But it seemed that, due to their overwhelming fear of death, they forgot to augment their bodies with Astra energy.
Asher shook his head, it was almost ironic, these mad men and women, who found pleasure and happiness in killing and experimenting on people while they were still alive, now feared death more than anything. They who had probably seen more deaths face to face and likely killed more people than Asher ever could were now terrified. They who had laughed and sung in the face of death when it belonged to others. Now that the blade of death was pointed toward them, their courage vanished completely.
One of the scientists tripped and tumbled forward in fear, he hadn’t tripped over a stone or debris, he had tripped over his own legs, the moment he fell, he froze, his body shaking uncontrollably in fear.
Slowly, he raised his head, his black gaze met Asher’s. For a moment, silence filled the ruined battlefield.
Asher wasn’t one to judge, he had made it a point not to judge others. Everyone was a sinner in one way or another, and he didn’t judge others simply because they sinned differently.
But these people...these people were truly sickening. His mind drifted toward the pleasure they had taken in their organ harvesting experiments, the countless victims, fhe screams, the suffering, the inhuman cruelty.
He shook his head slightly, then, with a simple wave of his hand, the first scientist’s body exploded into a grotesque mash of meat paste and blood.
His purple eyes shifted forward, with a single step, he appeared before another, before the woman could even begin to beg for her life, Asher waved his hand again, reducing her body into fragments of her former self.
He did the same thing to the remaining four scientists. One by one, ending them all in the exact same merciless way, the battlefield soon fell silent once again.
Afterward, Asher used his Astra energy to wipe his clothes and body clean, as he had been soaked in blood the entire time, the crimson stains vanished as though they had never existed.
With that done, he slowly sat down on the ruined ground, surrounded by the corpses of his enemies, he waited patiently for Debro to come to him. Because his final and hardest battle was about to begin.
