Chapter 51: A Knight Named Eldrion

Derrick was shocked. For the past one month, he had just been focused on training, but now he had been thrown right back into the world.

"I thought I was the only one in this generation to have a grandmaster talent?" Derrick had searched far and wide.

According to the records, the last person to have a grandmaster talent died about 3 centuries ago.

"Well, Eldrion’s talent was kept a secret for his own protection," Sir Thompson explained.

Derrick sighed, he leaned back into his chair, his eyes focused on Sir Thompson.

To be honest, he was a little angry, angry that he had not been told the truth all this while.

If he had access to someone like Eldrion early on, then he could have simply asked him more questions and trained with someone who knew what it was like to be him.

"I’m sorry we didn’t tell you, but it was Eldrion’s wish." Sir Thompson answered honestly.

Derrick sighed once again, he understood where Sir Thompson was coming from.

It wasn’t exactly his secret to reveal, but now that he knew, he needed to find out more.

"Why are there no records of him, no records of his battles or quests?" Derrick asked a valid question.

For someone as powerful as Eldrion, he was sure he would have at least read about them.

There was no way Eldrion would have just lived his entire life without fighting any major battle that wasn’t available in any history books.

"That’s the thing, he also wished for those to stay anonymous, or severely watered down," Sir Thompson explained.

"Now that you mentioned it..." Derrick placed his hand on his chin.

"I have read about a warrior named Eldrion, wasn’t he a Dravania citizen?" Derrick asked.

The Eldrion he read about was no one of any actual value of importance, he was just an average warrior that didn’t exactly do anything eye-catching.

"You are right, Eldrion was a Dravanian citizen," Sir Thompson explained.

"Was?" Derrick asked. He wondered if Eldrion betrayed Dravania in any way.

"No, nothing like that, just that the entire world believes he died about 18 years ago."

"And why is that?" Derrick asked curiously once more. He was trying his best to put himself into the mind of this Eldrion.

"Well, Eldrion was scared, scared that he would die much faster than his time," Sir Thompson explained.

"I see." Derrick leaned back in his chair.

"It was the dark emperor, wasn’t it?" Derrick asked. He knew there was only one force that could make a man like Eldrion scared.

To him, someone like Eldrion, with a grandmaster talent, and most likely magic to back it up, he would almost certainly be more powerful than everyone, including his father, Royal Knight and Sir Thompson.

"Yes, Eldrion is scared of the dark emperor," Sir Thompson answered, amazed at Derrick’s deduction.

"Have you tried talking to him?" Derrick asked. He knew Sir Thompson had his way with words.

"I did Derrick, but his fear... It’s rooted in powerful dark magic." Sir Thompson’s words were powerful, but they weren’t powerful enough to use ancient dark magic spells.

Derrick chuckled, "I finally found someone like me, and he’s a coward."

"Eldrion can be described using many adjectives, but cowardice is not one of them." Sir Thompson didn’t want Derrick thinking wrongly.

He had seen Eldrion in his prime, his power was unlike anything he had ever seen in all his years of life.

"I see." Derrick was at a loss for words. He didn’t know what else to say, or do.

"How old is he?" Derrick asked, trying to gauge how experienced and powerful Eldrion was.

"The same age as your father and I, forty-six." Sir Thompson answered smoothly.

Derrick stared intently at Sir Thompson. His body language and his demeanor was strange.

It was too calm, too relaxed, and it completely contrasted with his sped-up heartbeat.

He could tell deep down that there was something Sir Thompson wasn’t telling him about Eldrion, and he wouldn’t rest until he found out what.

He knew if he asked outrightly, Sir Thompson might not give him a full answer. If he could have, then he would have told him what he was hiding long ago.

Derrick went back to analyzing the power of Eldrion. For a man of forty-six, he would have had a reasonable amount of time to train his talent.

Derrick smirked. Finally, he was going to be taught by someone who moved at the same pace as him.

"Wait, did you say forty-six?" Derrick had realized something, something that didn’t exactly tally with what he had been told.

"Yes, why?" Sir Thompson answered calmly, not even the slightest trace of panic in his eyes.

Derrick did the math rapidly, and then did it again, and then again, and then two more times just to be sure.

"Are you saying my dad had Sloane at 16?" Derrick’s eyes widened, and his mouth fell open.

Ever since he had been born, he had only spoken with Sloane about 5 times, and each time she remained disrespectful and unwilling to bond with him, so he never really realized.

"Yes he did?" Sir Thompson said with a questioning look on his face. He assumed this was common knowledge.

King Henry had lived a fast teenage life, he went from being betrothed at an early age, to being forced into his duties as a king and father.

"Your father had two kids when he was your age." Sir Thompson laughed, he had been there to witness it all.

"It almost drove him mad." Sir Thompson chuckled, reminiscing the times when life was still so easy for all of them.

"Where is he now?" Derrick asked. He hadn’t heard from his father ever since the duel.

"He is currently on an undercover mission in the Veridian citadel. He retrieved some Intel from Royal Knight’s pouch and prompted a swift response." Sir Thompson answered honestly.

"And what was so important that the king had to do a knight’s job?" To Derrick, it sounded far-fetched.

"It was a necessary risk, he asked me to handle it, but I refused." Sir Thompson lied.

In truth, he knew what it was. The king had taken this mission to be away from the drama of it all.

He understood his friend’s decision. Everyone needed a break, but at the same time, he didn’t want Derrick to feel like his father had abandoned him.

"Well, I’ve been trying to get a hold of him with my mirror, but it’s not connecting." Derrick felt sad to be honest.

He expected his father to at least be proud of him, and to understand that he wasn’t the one who killed Ivan.

But it seemed his father didn’t believe him. He felt like his father blamed him for Ivan’s death.

In his mind, his father looked at him like a murderer, and was doing everything he could to get away from him.

He felt like his father had abandoned him, the one family member he had left on his side had abandoned him, and he didn’t know how to deal with it.

Sir Thompson could sense the distress on Derrick’s face, and it broke his heart.

Derrick was no fool. He knew it was only a matter of time till he could find out what was going on.

"You just have to remain calm. I’m sure he can’t use his mirror because it will affect his mission."

"What if he is in a precarious situation?" Derrick’s mind had instantly assumed the worst.

What if his father died, then what would happen to him?

Would his stepbrother be crowned king? He knew that if such a situation arose, then all hell would break loose, and his life would become miserable.

Now that he had dealt with the worst of his siblings, he was sure that there were many who were eager to fill that position.

After all, Derrick was the only one among them who was born from a different mother.

"Relax my prince, your father is one of the most powerful men on the planet." Sir Thompson eased Derrick’s heart.

"And he asked me to make sure you get trained by Eldrion and clean up your mistake, so off we go." Sir Thompson stood to his feet and so did Derrick.

"I have arranged a meeting with him, and we need to be there as fast as possible," Sir Thompson said hastily.

To be honest, he was in control of whatever time he wanted to come, but he didn’t want too many thoughts to linger in Derrick’s head.

They entered a carriage manned by three knights, and without any hesitation, the carriage took off.

Soon, the estate mountain vanished from his sights, and he was back in central Dravania, which also quickly vanished.

Derrick had stopped paying attention to his surroundings at this point, and was now focusing on what he was sensing.

Deep down, the same call he felt before he unleashed the beasts had returned, and even more intensely.

Derrick had been ignoring it for quite some time now, but he couldn’t anymore, he needed to address this issue, or everyone in Dravania would die.
