Classless Awakening; My Dragon Is Legendary-Chapter 48: An End Is Drawn
Both brothers charged, anger, pain and an insatiable desire for revenge fueling their actions.
Ivan swiped his spear, and an arc of ice followed, one which Derrick easily leaped over.
Derrick swung his sword, but Ivan rolled, forcing his blade to strike the ground.
Derrick pushed off the blade, raising both legs for a drop-kick, but Ivan blocked with an ice shield.
Derrick flipped forward, his sword moved at an invisible speed, breaking the shards of ice headed his way.
Opposite him, Ivan was rapidly closing the distance, but Derrick remained indifferent.
At the last second, he dropped to his knees, and his blade barely grazed Ivan.
Ivan gritted his teeth angrily. Every second spent in this fight, he could feel the frustration growing.
Derrick remained careful, he didn’t want to keep the distance between him and Ivan, and at the same time, he didn’t want Ivan to close that distance.
He was just dribbling Ivan for now, until his plan could finally fall into place.
Ivan’s anger grew once more, and the chill surrounding the colosseum grew even more potent.
[Healing and regeneration has been activated.]
The sheer cold from his surroundings was seriously weighing on Derrick and was affecting his health.
Derrick remained confident, he held his sword comfortably, waiting to see what Ivan’s next moves would be.
For now, it was stupid to attack Ivan, and the multiple ice shards hovering around him was proof of that.
"Valegus, ar imorati, vigantio e rabido nkita." Ivan chanted, and from the ice, something sprung.
Derrick instantly grew wary, the ice beneath his feet was rapidly moving, twisting and turning.
It was no longer a solid block of water, no, this was something else, something alive.
The ground opened underneath Derrick’s feet, and he leaped into the air, using his airstep to avoid whatever horror that was crawling from down below.
While in the air, Ivan took it as an opportunity and fired his ice shards.
Derrick, being too distracted by what was happening beneath him, didn’t realize until it was too late.
He managed to dodge, block and melt some of the ice shards, but a good portion of them slipped through and managed to lodge themselves into his body.
Derrick groaned, his healing was working overtime, rapidly pushing off the ice, and keeping his body temperature warm.
The creatures beneath him had finally finished forming, and they were what Derrick could only describe as ice dogs.
"Animated magic?" The king himself couldn’t believe it.
Animated magic was no easy feat and was something that was learned through years of constant training.
One didn’t just need enough mana, they also needed an insane amount of mental fortitude, to allow them to control whatever they animated.
"It seems you’ve underestimated Ivan." Sir Thompson could see what even a blind man could.
Ivan was more powerful than Derrick, and it wasn’t just by a small metric. In fact, this fight would have ended minutes ago, if Derrick didn’t have the Nullspire sword.
"True." The king admitted, the look on his face wasn’t one of shock or confusion, but acceptance.
He was accepting that, once again, he didn’t know everything.
He initially assumed Ivan was lazy and rarely trained. While that part was somewhat true, there were still lies to it.
Ivan trained in a way that many were unable to fully understand.
He didn’t waste his time learning whatever he deemed useless no, Ivan spent his time learning only spells that were of value to him.
Why bother himself going to learn basic magic, when he could create personalized spells thanks to his master talent? 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Sure, he didn’t train his body, but that didn’t mean he was weak.
"We sent him into this thinking Ivan was untrained..." The king didn’t know what else to say, he knew he was also to blame here.
"That doesn’t matter, we just need to have faith in Derrick," Sir Thompson spoke, the words that left his mouth weren’t backed by belief.
In truth, Sir Thompson knew the only things keeping Derrick alive were the Nullspire sword, and his healing.
If those two were taken away, then it would just be child’s play.
Derrick’s airstep ended, and his body fell to the ground. He managed to roll masterfully, protecting him from damage.
The first ice dog reached Derrick, it opened its mouth, revealing jagged teeth made with ice crystals.
Derrick simply tapped the dog with his nullspire sword and the entire thing came crumbling.
Derrick was far from scared, as long as he held Nullspire, he would survive.
[You know what to do Derrick.]
[Devil dance activated.]
Derrick’s body whizzed past the dogs, moving gracefully and with a speed that was hard for many to follow.
Derrick was so fast that his body was leaving after images, which made him difficult for the dogs to follow.
Ivan, seeing what was happening, quickly wrapped himself in a thick dome of ice.
Derrick swiped his blade, and an arc flew, it cleaved the ice dome into two, shattering it into pieces.
Derrick tried to attack, he tried to close the distance and do the necessary, but Ivan was already waiting for him.
Hundreds of ice-made projectiles were all hurtling towards him at rapid speed.
Thanks to his devil dance, this was light work for him, he evaded the projectiles he could and simply broke the rest.
"Come on, is that all you’ve got? Come here and fight me like a man." Derrick laughed at Ivan’s pathetic attempt.
"You’re weak Ivan, come and face me like our ancestors did each other." Derrick continued to laugh.
The frustration on Ivan’s face instantly vanished and was instantly replaced with a smile.
A smile that sent a chill into Derrick’s heart for a second.
The ice dogs crumbled into nothingness. This was Ivan’s own doing.
A scythe like the one from earlier materialized in his hands.
"No more running." Ivan was tired of all this and wanted it to end here.
"Gladly." Derrick activated the last skill of the Nullspire sword.
Derrick took the initiative, he closed the distance, and delivered a powerful punch.
Ivan felt the pain, the sheer force of Derrick’s punch almost took out his head.
Ivan swung his scythe, it dug deep into Derrick’s side.
Ivan didn’t stop there, another scythe materialized in his hand, but before he could strike Derrick with it, Derrick side kicked him, forcing him to stumble back.
Ivan spun his hands and a massive sword the size of a hut flew towards Derrick.
Derrick didn’t panic, he leaped into the air, using his air-step to buy himself more time.
He swung both hands, releasing his dragon claws, which struck Ivan, tearing parts of his body.
Ivan just shrugged the pain, the adrenaline pumping through his veins, and his blinding rage made him immune to pain.
Derrick fell flat on the ground, allowing Ivan’s attack to pass over his head.
He pushed himself up, his body twisting magnificently in a way that no one had ever seen before.
Both his legs hit Ivan’s shoulders, and the sheer force from them rendered both his hands ineffective.
Everyone was clutching the edge of their seats, the fight had gone from interesting to breathtaking.
Derrick swung both arms and Ivan dodged, he summoned an ice shield with a pointy tip and, using an ice slide, he bashed it into Derrick’s side.
Derrick’s body flew, he crashed into the magical barrier protecting the witnesses in the colosseum , and broke several bones.
He quickly got to his feet, but before anything could happen, three ice spears stabbed into him.
Two punctured his lungs, and the third struck his heart.
[Health is critical.]
[HP has hit 0.]
[Dragonic transformation has begun.]
Derrick couldn’t process the words the system presented, he could feel his consciousness fading.
Everyone in the Colosseum stared at the fight below with their breaths held.
Just before Derrick passed out, he felt a rush of energy go through his body.
[Sacred enchantment has been activated.]
[Enchantment second chance has been utilized.]
The spikes instantly melted, and all Derrick’s wounds healed.
In the blink of an eye, Derrick had gone from dead to healthy.
The king was struggling to make sense of what just happened, and so was Derrick.
However, Derrick didn’t have much time to think. Ivan was already an inch away from him, hoping to finish it all.
Derrick buckled his knees, letting Ivan’s hand miss him by a centimeter, giving him the opening that he needed.
His sword grazed Ivan’s thigh, and his plan had finally been executed.
Derrick had been making small shallow cuts on Ivan’s body.
He utilized Ivan’s rage and thirst for battle. He put Ivan in a winning position, one that would make him oblivious to the cuts.
Just like Sir Thompson had told him, a thirsty shark was prone to drowning, he applied the same principle here.
The hundred cuts had finally activated the ’Null’ skill of the Nullspire sword, which deactivated Ivan’s ability.
Ivan stretched his hand, but nothing happened, no ice spike or projectile, nothing, not even a breeze.
Fear engulfed Ivan, his body began trembling, and he rapidly crawled away from Derrick.
"What have you done to me?" Ivan asked, tears streaming down his eyes.
"Witch!!!!" Ivan screamed. That was the only thing that came to his mind, because he couldn’t explain the phenomenon.
"I am no witch." A smile stretched across Derrick’s face. He finally had Ivan where he wanted him.
"After all these years, all your bullying and torture, I finally have you where I want you." The satisfaction rushing through Derrick was overwhelming.
Every evil deed Ivan had ever done to Derrick, and the bullying, the assassination attempts, it all came rushing back.
Now was his chance to have his revenge.
Derrick raised his blade, the Nullspire blade caught the glow of the sun, giving it a beautiful shimmer.
"Now you die." Derrick swung his sword, with a slight hesitation.
Inches before the blade reached Ivan’s head, the king broke the silence.
"Son please!" The king screamed, a single tear in his eye.
"Please don’t kill him." The king begged, sure Ivan wasn’t the best of people, but he was still his son.
"Please don’t kill your brother." The king didn’t want to lose any of his sons today, and if Derrick went through with it, he would lose both of them.
Derrick didn’t want to spare Ivan. The pain was too much for him to bear. After all Ivan had done to him, he couldn’t just let go.
Plus, Derrick was sure there would be one reward or the other for killing Ivan, but he knew in his heart of hearts that this was wrong.
Derrick let out a deep breath, he retracted his blade, and sheathed it.
"This duel is over!" he declared and turned his back to walk away.
[Null has ended.]
Derrick’s senses began to tingle, an effect of his danger sense skill.
[Dragon fortress activated.]
Scales rapidly surrounded Derrick’s body from head to toe, protecting him from the shard of ice headed his way.
The ice shard struck his back and immediately bounced off, it hit an ice boulder and ricocheted off it, before finally burying itself in Ivan’s skull.
