Classless Awakening; My Dragon Is Legendary-Chapter 24: Nature’s Call
Derrick moved through the streets of Dravania masterfully, his dragon eyes and danger sense helping him to weave his way through.
He avoided the gaze of the guards and other powerful people.
There was a major flaw in his disguise and that was its lack of any enchantments, which meant that anyone could discover who he actually was.
’Where is this thing leading me?’ Derrick asked himself.
Without any carriages, he had to cover this distance by foot, and he didn’t know how far away he was from his destination.
He also needed to estimate how long it would take him to come back to his bedroom, now that he had no idea where Royal Knight was, or when he would return.
The sound of hooves clashing against the ground drew Derrick’s attention.
An empty public carriage was heading his way, and Derrick’s golden opportunity appeared.
Derrick raised his hand to stop the carriage, but the carriageman pointed to the crystal attached to his carriage.
Derrick followed the carriageman’s hands. The crystal emitted a soft red glow, which indicated that he was out of business for today.
Derrick quickly approached the carriageman, using his skills to sneak up on him.
"I’d like to charter this carriage." Derrick made his intentions known.
"By the gods !" the carriageman said with fear written all over.
"Did I frighten you?" Derrick asked. To the carriageman, he came out of nowhere.
"Yes, you did!" The carriageman still had his hand on his chest.
"Like I said earlier, I’d like to charter your carriage," Derrick said once more.
"It’ll cost you." The carriageman smirked, he planned to overcharge Derrick for the scare.
"No problem." Derrick entered the carriage before the carriageman could say anything else.
"Westward please," Derrick said confidently, and the carriageman did as told.
"For an old man, you have a really strong voice." The carriageman was wary of Derrick.
The way he appeared out of nowhere, the way his face was hidden, and how he didn’t care about how much he paid, these were all very strange.
"I guess." Derrick didn’t say much. He was afraid that if he continued to speak, he would reveal too much, and the carriageman would find out who he was. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"Are you one of those dark emperor servants?" The carriageman asked what was on his mind.
The way Derrick acted and appeared, it was the textbook behavior of a witch or a warlock.
"The king has assured us that he is working on that." Derrick didn’t see why people were so panicked.
"Oh please, the king and his false promises." The carriageman was no fool, and neither was anyone in the kingdom.
They could see the handwriting on the wall, the dark emperor was free, and with him would come nothing but chaos.
The entire kingdom knew that there was no chance of defeating the dark emperor. The king had only made empty promises.
"Well, we have the grandmaster prince to save us," Derrick said with a chuckle at the end.
"You mean that joke, we call a prince?" the carriageman asked, followed by heavy laughter.
Derrick gritted his teeth, anger surging through his veins. He wanted to smash this carriageman’s head, but he restrained himself.
He had been pushing his mind and body to the limits day after day, enduring training that was harsher than that given to Royal Knights.
Despite all this, no one recognized his efforts, or even gave him the benefit of the doubt.
They just assumed he was nothing, and he couldn’t exactly blame them. He was magicless and that was a fact he couldn’t deny.
"I just can’t wait for Prince Ivan to destroy his cocky brother," the carriageman said mindlessly.
He had only heard second hand stories about Derrick, he didn’t know who Derrick was, or how he spent his daily life, he just made an assumption that Derrick was cocky.
The carriageman looked back, seeing the silent Derrick, he decided to be silent and just continue the trip.
"Stop!" Derrick shouted. Whatever he was feeling earlier, had been amplified ten times as soon as he reached this location.
The carriage man brought the carriage to a halt, and with the press of a button, its doors were flung wide open, allowing Derrick to alight.
As soon as Derrick’s feet touched the ground, the carriageman sped off, something was odd about Derrick, and he didn’t want to stick around to find out.
Derrick stared around the place. He had never seen it before.
Before him was a lush, thick forest that spanned as far as the eye could see.
Strangely, there was a darkness inside the forest, one so thick that even his enhanced vision struggled to penetrate it.
An idea came to mind and Derrick decided to implement it.
[Dragon Eyes.]
A soft red glow engulfed Derrick’s irises, allowing him to see in a whole new dimension.
Instantly, the surrounding darkness vanished and Derrick could see into the forest.
Whatever was calling out to him was still deep within the forest, and he couldn’t just leave without fulfilling his curiosity.
Derrick walked forward, standing just at the outskirts of the forest, scared to go in.
’I think it would be best to return with Royal Knight.’
Since Royal Knight already knew about the dragon spirit, he would understand Derrick’s situation.
And if the dragon spirit was sensing something deep within the forest, then it was a no-brainer to check it out.
It could be a long-lost weapon, treasure beyond their imagination, or something way worse.
Also, Royal Knight had the power to offer him the necessary protection.
"No, I can’t afford to wait for Royal Knight. Who knows when he’ll return?" Derrick’s point was also valid.
Whatever was in this forest had started calling out to him all of a sudden. So, if he waited any longer, whatever lay beyond this forest could suddenly disappear.
[I strongly advise against this!]
The system’s words flared to life, but Derrick didn’t even give it a second glance.
He took a deep breath, steadied himself and prepared his mind, whatever waited in this forest could be dangerous, and so was Derrick.
