Chapter 275: The Deal

Lin Xuan Qi got onto his horse carriage and left for the seaside.

When the smell of the salty air entered his nose as the horse carriage got near, he knew that he had arrived.

Bai Sha town was bustling with activities even in the cold of autumn.

There were men and women carrying fish on their shoulders or pushing them on pushcarts.

All the fishermen and fishmongers were rushing to sell whatever they could before winter arrived, when it would be too cold and dangerous for them to venture out to sea.

Crack.

The whip of the coachman cracked and the horse carriage came to a halt.

He rose from his seat and turned the handle of the carriage door.

When the door opened, the coachman had already placed the steps for him to alight.

Lin Xuan Qi stepped out from the horse carriage and came down from the steps with the passersby giving him a glance and going on with their daily errands.

He headed for the fish market and the fishmongers were packing up since it was already afternoon.

The fishmongers glanced at him when he entered the market, and it took a while for them to recognize who he was.

"It’s you."

"Thank God you are back. I’ve been waiting for you for so long."

"My fishermen are eager to know whether you want those sea grasses."

"Yeah, it will give us peace of mind."

They were worried that he didn’t appear again after buying the initial bulk of the sea grass, or more specifically Kelp, from them.

It was an added income for them to tide them over the autumn and winter.

The pressure for them was especially so with the autumn tax coming.

Lin Xuan Qi raised his hands and reassured them, "I’m back and yes, I’m more than ready to make my orders for the Kelp."

"How much do you need?"

"I can guarantee a quantity of five hundred kilograms per week."

"Only five hundred kilograms? I can supply a ton in a week."

They hustled and tried to clinch the deal from him, fearing that they would miss out on the deal.

But Lin Xuan Qi shook his head, much to the anxiety of the fishmongers.

"You don’t need that much?"

"But my fishermen are more than ready and had scouted where the sea grasses were."

"Same here. It would be a waste of our effort."

They tried to make their case and Lin Xuan Qi gave them a smile.

"You’ve misunderstood. I want all of it. However much you can supply, I will take it," he said and the fishmongers glanced at each other.

"All? From all of us?" one of them asked to confirm.

Lin Xuan Qi nodded and replied, "Yes, from all of you."

The fishmongers burst out in loud cheers when they heard him.

Many had already thought about how much those fishermen that worked with them could supply.

Copper coins in their money bags were the next thing they thought of after that.

Lin Xuan Qi had not much of a choice.

The refinement process was crude and the final result that he could get from a kilogram of Kelp was much less than with precise equipment and environment.

So, he needed as much as he could.

And he needed to have it all before the seas turned cold and turbulent during the winter.

"Send the kelp to the factory at Long Ting street in Hong Feng city."

"You can make your delivery of the Kelp there every day. I’ve informed my men about it," Lin Xuan Qi said and glanced at their expression.

He wasn’t sure if they were happy about it.

Right now, he didn’t have a logistic arm for his business to handle the transportation of goods for suppliers that were a distance away from Hong Feng city.

Even though it was relatively peaceful now, traveling along the roads was still a risk for anyone.

There might be robbery or other bad things that could happen to you.

The fishmongers discussed among themselves for a while with anxious faces.

Some shook their heads, while others tried to persuade the them.

And then, after much discussion, they finally agreed to it.

"Fine, we will consolidate the goods and deliver it to the city," one of them said.

Their plan was to deliver it together and that it might be safer for them to be in numbers.

And even if there were anything to happen, these sea grasses weren’t worth anything to anyone other than Lin Xuan Qi.

In fact, they still didn’t know why he wanted so much of it.

But if he was willing to pay, they weren’t going to stop him.

Lin Xuan Qi was glad for their reply and he nodded his head. "Thanks, it is settled then. I shall wait for the delivery tomorrow."

He was ready to start with the production and there were some adjustments to make for the factories.

The burning of the crop stalks would be shifted to the factory in the north, supplying it for the soap and MSG business, since it was a common produce for both of them.

That would bring about more focus and efficiency in the allocation of the resources.

All of the fishmongers nodded their heads and assured him, "We will make sure of it."

Their fishermen were waiting for the go ahead for so long and finally they would be able to do so.

Lin Xuan Qi thanked them again and before he left, the fishmongers quickly gifted him whatever they still had in their stalls.

"Here, this mei tong fish is sweet and tender. Bring it back for a meal."

"One of my fishermen caught these squids and they are nice to go with wine after you steam it."

"These prawns are sweet if you eat them raw."

They bagged their seafood and tried to pass them over to Lin Xuan Qi.

But he only had two hands and there were too many of them.

Finally, he had no choice but to let the guards help with their gifts.

So, the guards carried the packages wrapped with oil-layered paper with parts of the fish and prawns sticking out, making them look comical in contrast with the swords they had on their waist.

Lin Xuan Qi shook his head and smiled when he saw the scene.

The guards gave him an aggrieved look, but he didn’t mind the fishmongers’ token of appreciation.

As an avid food lover, he was eager to savor these seafood for lunch and dinner.
