Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 431: Mockery
Uncle Ethan and Vivian were thrilled to hear that Honey was going to sing for them. Uncle Ethan couldn’t resist boasting to Shawn Sheffield, "My granddaughter is so clever, she’s fluent in English, French, and Bellaza."
"Impressive, impressive." Shawn Sheffield responded with a polite smile, but internally dismissed it. She might be called a granddaughter, but there was no blood relation. Moreover, he had heard about the colorful private life of the stepson in the family, possibly a result of the previous generation’s indiscretions.
Thinking this, he cast a nuanced look at Vivian.
Soon, the hall was filled with Honey’s clear singing voice, her childlike rice-grain-toned voice prompting the guests to exclaim in admiration, glancing up at the child holding a microphone in front of the band, instantly recognizing her as the little flower girl with angel wings.
Ethan Sterling, standing beside Aidan Sinclair, was also astonished by his daughter’s performance. He immediately halted the conversation, turning to look in the direction of his daughter, his eyes sparkling with a father’s pride.
Aidan Sinclair couldn’t help but marvel, "Little Honey is getting cuter by the day."
Ethan Sterling teased, "If you’re envious, have one yourself."
Aidan Sinclair immediately thought of Stella Jennings’ age, clearing his throat, "No rush, I’m still young."
Next to him, Wendy Sheffield couldn’t help but laugh, "Hasn’t the younger generation felt the pain of being pressured by their parents to get married?"
Aidan Sinclair chuckled, "One of my mom’s favorite topics of conversation."
Wendy Sheffield was Shawn Sheffield’s youngest daughter. Although she didn’t know who Aidan Sinclair’s biological mother was, she knew it was Uncle Ethan’s first formal marriage, so she wasn’t sure if "mom" referred to his current stepmother or his biological mother, not the kind of thing she should inquire about.
"After I returned home, my mom has been urging me to go on blind dates, it’s driving me crazy." She glanced at Aidan Sinclair’s profile, hesitantly complaining, in reality, trying to gauge his attitude.
They had known each other since childhood and had always had a good relationship. However, after Aidan Sinclair took over The Sinclair Group, he began leading an unrestrained, adventurous life. Out of anger, she went abroad to study, and over the years, despite dating several boyfriends, she increasingly missed Aidan Sinclair’s good qualities.
The reason she returned this time was actually because of him.
Given the Sinclair family’s status, her parents would naturally not oppose, nor would they arrange any blind dates for her, it was all a casual fabrication.
Aidan Sinclair focused on listening to Honey sing, imagining what a daughter with Stella Jennings would be like, his smile growing softer, he casually replied, "You’re not that young, it’s about time to get married, it’s harder for women to have kids as they get older."
Wendy Sheffield’s face turned green with anger, rolling her eyes, "Women aren’t just baby-making machines."
Aidan Sinclair, hearing her, realized he was fortunate Stella Jennings hadn’t overheard, "Of course not!"
Wendy Sheffield was amused by his nervous demeanor, assuming he was afraid she’d misunderstand, "Alright, I’m not that petty, I forgive you."
Aidan Sinclair didn’t take her words to heart and continued listening to Honey’s song.
As the song ended, Honey lifted her skirt and gracefully performed a curtsy reminiscent of medieval Euronia and Meridia, then stepped down from the stage, happily rushing towards her mother watching from the front.
"Mom, did I sing well just now?"
"Of course, our Honey is the best!"
Honey’s eyes crinkled in delight, unable to resist looking for Jasper Sheffield, "Mom, do you think Jasper will like it?"
"Hmm, I guess he might like it." Ruby Sullivan immediately changed the subject, "I just discovered some delicious desserts over there, even better than the strawberry cake you had earlier, let’s go try them."
"Wait a bit." Honey finally spotted Jasper Sheffield in the crowd, "I want to go ask Jasper first if he likes me a little."
"Honey, I think if he likes you, he’ll come over and tell you, you don’t need to ask. Besides, girls need to be a bit demure to be more adorable."
"What’s ’demure’ mean?" Honey asked, only for a woman’s mocking laughter to suddenly erupt nearby, piercingly unpleasant.
Both mother and daughter looked somewhat displeased, and Honey promptly asked, "Auntie, what are you laughing at?"
The woman looked down at her disdainfully, speaking in a sweet yet polite tone, "I’m laughing at you. It’s hilarious that you don’t even know what ’demure’ means yet expect my nephew to like you."
Honey’s face fell, she didn’t quite understand what the woman meant, but from her expression, she could sense a lot of malice.
Ruby Sullivan smiled too, taking her daughter’s hand, standing up, "Honey, with such an uncouth aunt, maybe Jasper has poor upbringing, perhaps it’s best not to want him to like you."
Though her words were directed at her daughter, she kept her gaze locked on the woman, so close to calling her an "orphan."
Leah Bennett’s expression changed instantly, "Who are you calling uncouth?"
Ruby Sullivan smiled, "If you think I’m talking about you, consider yourself included, you’re not overthinking."
Leah Bennett snorted, "No matter how uncouth I am, I wouldn’t bring my daughter to the ex-husband’s mother’s wedding, don’t you know how you got divorced?" Having said that, she maliciously laughed, "Publicly displaying that kind of video and still acting normal, continuing to show your face around, is truly admirable."
Leah Bennett was here today with Jasper Sheffield’s mother, her sister, because she was at a marriageable age, her sister wanted her to meet some people at the wedding, perhaps she’d meet the right man.
Moreover, Leah Bennett was Hannah Jennings’ close friend, and she didn’t expect to see Ruby Sullivan, so she seized the opportunity to vent for her friend.
To Hannah Jennings, the problems in her and Ethan Sterling’s relationship were all caused by Ruby Sullivan’s manipulation using the child as leverage, and Leah Bennett naturally believed her friend’s words.
Ruby Sullivan had come alone today, due to an emergency at the company, she had arrived a bit late, sitting at the back during the ceremony, and later spent time eating and drinking with her son. Even though Ethan Sterling danced with three different girls, he hadn’t come to invite her, leaving Leah Bennett and others unaware that Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan had reconciled.
In fact, Ruby Sullivan had been traveling so frequently for work that she just wanted to seize this time to enjoy being with her kids. If it weren’t that Honey insisted on seeking some handsome little boy, she would surely have been joining the two little ones to eat and drink together.
Ruby Sullivan chuckled lightly, "What’s admirable about that? You could do it too." She said, pulling her daughter’s hand as they left. Although she showed no outward sign of being affected, internally, she was on the verge of breaking down.
She knew that even if no one talked about it, every time someone saw her, they would remember it, she couldn’t stop others, she could only adapt herself.
Honey did not understand the verbal sparring between the adults, but she could sense her mother’s unhappiness; that auntie was too annoying! After walking a few steps, Honey angrily turned and glared at Leah Bennett, suddenly breaking free of her mother’s hand, turning back, and kicking hard with her booted foot at her bare calf.
