Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 368: Thank You, Son
When Ethan Sterling opened his eyes, he was already in the hospital. The light in his eyes dimmed the moment he saw the people by his bedside.
Leon Sterling got up to pour him a glass of water. "You’ve been asleep for two days. The doctor said fatigue combined with a cold and emotional agitation caused you to suddenly pass out." He pressed the call button, "What do you want to eat? I’ll have Mama Bennett send it over."
Ethan Sterling slowly sat up, his voice hoarse, "The five-ingredient porridge she makes."
By ’she’, he naturally meant Ruby Sullivan.
Leon Sterling chuckled, mercilessly teasing him, "After she took you to the hospital and handed you over to me, she never showed up again. Said she was too busy with work and probably doesn’t have the time to cook for you."
Ethan Sterling frowned, a bit tempted to kick this kid out. Just then, the doctor came in, and Leon Sterling lazily got up, "Doctor, what can he eat now?" Not having eaten for two days had weakened his stomach, so it was better to follow the doctor’s advice.
"Some easily digestible porridge, as he already has a stomach condition and can’t eat greasy foods now."
"Understood." After thanking the doctor, Leon Sterling went out to call Mama Bennett. After giving her instructions, he sent a message to the family group chat about Ethan waking up. Besides the two brothers, the group included Cindy Sterling and Ruby Sullivan. It was only a little after eight, so probably no one was awake yet.
But Vivian immediately replied, saying she would come to the hospital to see her son right away.
Soon, Cindy Sterling also sent a message, saying she would come over too.
Leon Sterling waited a bit longer, and seeing Ruby Sullivan still hadn’t said a word, he had no choice but to call her. For his brother’s sake, he couldn’t just stand by doing nothing.
In the hospital room, after the doctor finished examining Ethan Sterling, he said there was nothing serious, but for safety, suggested staying in the hospital for another day for observation.
"Was I so seriously ill that I’m fine so quickly?" Ethan Sterling asked with a hint of reluctance.
The doctor paused, unsure of what the CEO meant, "Mr. Sterling has a good physique, but still needs to rest more."
As the doctor was about to leave, Ethan called out, "Doctor!" When the doctor turned back, he quickly said, "Could you make my condition sound more serious?"
The doctor slightly frowned, "Mr. Sterling, do you have a particular arrangement?" It’s not unusual for big CEOs to feign illness sometimes, but they needed to know the reason to collaborate better.
"My wife has been mad at me lately. I want to appear more pitiful so she’ll calm down." Initially, Ethan Sterling felt a bit embarrassed about this, but after telling the doctor, he felt relieved. After all, who’s never had to pacify their spouse?
The doctor couldn’t help but smile, "Sure, Mr. Sterling can stay in the hospital for a few more days, no problem. Don’t worry, when I see Mrs. Sterling, I’ll know what to say." He took a few steps, then couldn’t resist looking back, "Mrs. Sterling must be very happy to be with you. I’ve learned a trick."
Ethan Sterling chuckled, a touch of bashfulness that didn’t match his usual demeanor showing on his face. When Leon Sterling came in, his expression quickly stiffened again.
Leon Sterling handed him his phone from his pocket, regretfully saying, "Your plan to gain sympathy may be in vain. I just called her, and she said you should rest well. She’s not a doctor, and coming over wouldn’t help anyway, so she’s not coming."
Ethan Sterling’s face became even more frosty.
"By the way, Vivian and Cindy said they’ll come by later to see you."
"Not necessary." Ethan Sterling said coldly, feeling annoyed, "You can leave too."
Seeing that Ethan Sterling was fine, Leon Sterling had no intention of staying to watch over him, "Then I’m off. If you need anything, call me. Though, I think you should call sis-in-law too." This was the first time he called Ruby Sullivan sis-in-law, and found it quite catchy.
With Ethan Sterling’s refusal, Vivian and Cindy rescheduled their visit to the afternoon to come with the kids.
Honey was very distressed seeing her dad so frail and climbed onto the bed, hugging his arm and saying many comforting words. Seeing Honey’s behavior, Ethan Sterling became even more determined to keep his wife.
Wailing and throwing tantrums — don’t think these petty tricks are only for women. As long as a man has perseverance, they work just as well.
Seth wasn’t as considerate as Honey, constantly furrowing his brow, repeatedly wanting to speak but hesitating.
Ethan Sterling took note of his son’s expression and called Seth over as they were leaving, wanting a word with him, letting Vivian and Cindy take Honey out first.
"Seth, do you have something to say?"
Seth sighed looking at his dad, "Why were you fighting with mom again before you ended up in the hospital? Her face was covered in tears that day... I called her today, and she said she’s too busy to see you, but I know it’s just an excuse."
Ethan Sterling glanced at his son, "I know it’s an excuse."
"You’re pretty smart."
"Thanks."
"I’ve said a lot of good things about you to mom, but it didn’t seem to help. She seems determined to leave you this time, but she probably won’t take us abroad. At least she’ll be closer to you than last time, when meeting required crossing mountains."
"Which side are you on?" Ethan Sterling felt a bit resentful towards his son, how could he switch sides so quickly?
"Then tell me what got mom mad? I’ll try to act accordingly and see if I can persuade her."
Ethan Sterling was silent before he said, "It’s not that I don’t want to tell you, but it involves your mom’s privacy. I can’t tell anyone."
"Well... I’ll do my best."
Looking at Seth’s small frame exuding maturity and composure beyond his age,
Ethan Sterling felt a bit uneasy. No wonder Ruby Sullivan always said he was too harsh on this son. Even though he disliked his own childhood, he still ended up raising a son just like himself.
"Son, thank you."
Seth was a bit surprised, looking back at him, "I’m doing it for mom. Ever since she came back from Meridia, she’s had the same smile as Honey. I know, that’s because of you."
At night, after Mama Bennett went to bed, Seth quietly called Honey into his room. He had thought for a long time, realizing to persuade mom, he’d have to rely on his sister.
"Honey, whether mom and dad can stay together depends on your performance today."
"Brother, I’ll follow your lead."
"Then later when we call mom, cry hard and say you miss her. Mom won’t be able to take it and will come back." Seth didn’t have a better plan, but he had to see mom first, then he could act cute to melt her heart.
Honey was somewhat troubled. She wasn’t the crying type and couldn’t cry on demand, "If I can’t cry later, you can pinch my butt. I hate pain, when you pinch, I’ll cry."
Seth felt a bit sorry for his sister.
Honey was not afraid of pain. In the hospital, she was always brave when getting checkups, injections weren’t a big deal to her. If he really pinched her to tears, it would require quite some force.
"Forget it, I’ll cry later."
"If you can cry, I can too." Honey vowed earnestly.
At this time, mom definitely hadn’t gone to sleep yet. Once decided, the two of them dialed mom’s video call.
