Chapter 367: Chapter 367: All Because I Love You

Mama Bennett had always been uneasy, and when she heard Ruby Sullivan’s exclamation, she quickly ran over. Upon reaching the doorway, she paused for a moment and then quickly turned to leave, thinking to herself, ah, young people’s emotions are truly wonderful.

Ruby Sullivan vaguely heard the hurried footsteps, immediately realizing the situation, she glared at him and hit his arm twice, making a muffled sound as a warning.

Ethan Sterling’s lips curled into a smile, indulging himself without caring about anything else, refusing to let go. The next second, he let out a low groan of pain, having been bitten on the tongue. Ruby Sullivan’s brows were furrowed, her eyes glaring angrily, showing a stance that she would fight him if he didn’t stop.

Ethan Sterling paused for a moment, took a deep breath, ignoring her threats, and simply held her waist tighter. He couldn’t help feeling a sudden discomfort in his throat, which finally forced him to let go and turn aside, covering his mouth to cough violently.

Ruby Sullivan disdainfully wiped her lips with the back of her hand, glaring at him with irritation. She intended to get up and leave, but seeing his haggard profile and how he was coughing so much he couldn’t straighten his back, her heart softened.

Resigned, she let out a long sigh, poured him a glass of water and placed it beside him, then wrapped the wet quilt and carried it outside, "Owen, go dry the quilt."

"Coming." Owen Fulton, diligent and quick, said little. He trotted over, took the quilt, and went to hang it on the balcony without asking a single question.

Ethan Sterling had finished coughing, and the continuous coughing had brought some color to his face, making him look slightly more spirited.

Ruby Sullivan took another quilt from the cabinet and spread it over him, "Drink the water."

"Okay." He stopped his antics, picked up the cup, and drank the entire glass of water in a few gulps, handing the cup back to her.

Ruby Sullivan immediately poured him another glass, "Mm."

Ethan Sterling took it and drank it down again in a few gulps, handing the cup back to her. Throughout the process, he stared at her without blinking, as if afraid that she would disappear if he took his eyes off her even for a moment.

Ruby Sullivan clutched the cup, frowned, looked at him, and after a long pause, sighed and said in a deep voice, "You should sleep for a while. If there’s no improvement by the afternoon, you need to see a doctor immediately."

"Will you leave?" he asked hoarsely, holding her hand, his softened eyes resembling a puppy abandoned by the roadside, pitifully hoping for her company.

Ruby Sullivan met his gaze, hesitated for a long time, then lowered her head, "Recently, Nirvana has been severely oppressed by The Lawson Group. I have a lot of work to do..."

Ethan Sterling tightened his grip on her hand, "I miss you."

"Don’t do this..." Ruby Sullivan tried to pull her hand away but found it impossible. Despite his sickly appearance, his grip was too strong for her to break free.

Ethan Sterling frowned, stubbornly said, "If you leave, I won’t take medicine or see a doctor, I’d rather burn into an idiot."

Ruby Sullivan laughed out of anger at his petulance, "Ethan Sterling, are you a three-year-old child?"

"I’m losing my wife, I can’t care about anything else. As long as you’re willing to stay, even if you say I’m two years old, I’ll admit it."

"Ethan Sterling!" She confronted him, eventually letting out a breath, "Why must you do this?"

Ethan Sterling nudged closer to her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders, "Ruby Sullivan, can you please trust me a little more?"

Ruby Sullivan bit her lip, not knowing what to say.

She didn’t know what to trust him about. Trust that he loved her? She believed that. But it didn’t mean they would be happy together after getting back together.

"It’s my fault, I didn’t protect you. Just call it me being selfish. Life without you is too painful, and if you’re determined to leave me, I’m not sure if I won’t go kill L."

Ethan Sterling whispered near her ear, almost choking on his words.

Ruby Sullivan was swept by the sweetness and heartache in his deep feelings, "I’m sorry." Besides offering apologies, she didn’t know what else to say. She truly couldn’t face him any longer. Maybe one day, this feeling would disappear from her heart, but definitely not now.

Moreover, once she agreed to continue being with him, what might L do next? She couldn’t imagine. It was her who provoked that demon, and when it was time to face it, she couldn’t drag others down with her!

"I don’t want to hear apologies. I want you to marry me, to be my wife as Ethan Sterling, belonging only to me."

Ruby Sullivan thought of L’s threats and hardened her heart, "Impossible. It’s impossible between us!" She released his hand, got up to leave, too anxious even to dare look back at him.

"Ruby Sullivan!" Ethan Sterling called out in dissatisfaction, getting off the bed and rushing in front of her, "Do you know why I have a fever? I took a shower last night and went outside with wet hair to feel the cold wind. I’ve been working for days, and I just felt a bit of heaviness in my head and some tiredness. I even got angry with myself for being so healthy, thinking that if I got sick, I could rightfully ask you to come back."

Ruby Sullivan lowered her head, and the defenses in her heart collapsed one word by one word. She pressed her forehead against his hot chest, "Ethan Sterling, please let me go, okay?"

Ethan Sterling froze, "I don’t understand, why do you want to leave me? Leaving me only lets L succeed, don’t you understand?"

Ruby Sullivan looked up, tears streaming down like rain, "Because ever since I came back from Caelus, I’ve been living in pain. Every time I see you, I’m reminded of how humiliated I was that day. Ethan Sterling, I don’t want to say some pretentious words to you, but I really can’t discard this dignity."

She pleaded, "So... Could you please let me go?"

Ethan Sterling was stunned, momentarily lost.

He thought she was worried he couldn’t bear it, never imagined she would be tormented equally, "If that’s the case, why did you save me?"

I love you. Saving you was because I love you, leaving you is also because I love you.

Ruby Sullivan looked at him, unable to say those words, "I’m sorry, I didn’t expect I couldn’t bear it. Taking care of you in Caelus, I felt like a walking corpse, not knowing how long this situation would last at the time. I had only one thought every day, hoping you’d wake up."

"But when you woke up, when everything returned to normal, the only thing left for me was pain. I’m sorry, other than saying sorry, I don’t know what else I can say to you."

Ethan Sterling was somewhat dazed, he furrowed his brows tightly, silent for a while, hesitantly saying, "Ruby, this is just a matter of time. I’ll be with you, waiting to get through this tough time, okay?"

Ruby Sullivan’s eyes filled with tears, but she showed a bitter smile, "Ethan Sterling, could you stop taking things for granted? You can’t feel the pain I’m in, can’t even imagine the damage it’s done to me, so what gives you the right to tell me you’ll accompany me through it?"

Ethan Sterling moved his lips, the nerves in his brain dancing unrestfully, causing him extreme pain with each jump.

Suddenly he closed his eyes, collapsing onto Ruby Sullivan.
