Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 362: Not Wanting the Kids to Worry
The next morning, Honey and Seth saw the gifts placed in the living room and were extremely happy.
Honey picked up a new Barbie doll with shining eyes, "Did mom come back so soon?"
Seth looked at a set of Lego he already had and calmly said, "Dad came back."
"Dad’s back!" Honey put down the Barbie and ran towards their parents’ bedroom. She hadn’t seen her "real" dad for a while and missed him terribly!
Seth wasn’t as interested in his dad. He continued looking at other gifts, besides the Lego, there was a set of Gundam model kits. He liked them a lot and immediately unwrapped them.
On the other side, Honey twisted the doorknob and as soon as she pushed open a crack, she was choked by the smoke that came out.
"Oh no, there’s a fire!" she shouted and quickly pushed the door open, "Dad, Dad!"
"Honey." Ethan Sterling smiled slightly and called his daughter’s name, hastily extinguishing the cigarette in his hand.
Honey grabbed his arm, "Dad, let’s go quickly, there’s a fire here." The little girl said as she exerted effort, coughing the whole time.
Ethan hurriedly got up and went out with her, closing the door behind him.
Actually, the window in the room was open, but he smoked too quickly, one after another, and with the door closed, the smoke simply couldn’t disperse. He followed his daughter out, just not wanting her to stay in that poisonous room anymore.
He picked up his nervous daughter and kissed her, "Sweet girl, the house isn’t on fire, it’s just dad smoking."
Honey shrank her neck after being poked by his beard, "I thought it was on fire."
Seth, Mama Bennett, and Owen Fulton all breathed a sigh of relief after being scared by Honey.
"When did the son-in-law come back?" Mama Bennett greeted with a smile.
"Last night, at midnight."
"Then have some breakfast and quickly rest for a bit. Your complexion doesn’t look very good." Mama Bennett said and then went back to the kitchen with Owen to keep preparing breakfast.
Seth saw he looked haggard, with stubble hanging on his chin, and couldn’t help but frown, "Dad, what’s wrong with you?"
"It’s nothing." Ethan walked to the sofa and sat down, "Do you like the gifts I brought you?"
Honey wrapped her arms around her dad’s neck, tilted her head and leaned on his shoulder, "I like all the gifts dad buys."
Seth sat on a single sofa a bit further away, still very worried.
Ethan, pressured by his son’s sharp gaze, helplessly put his daughter down and patted her shoulder saying, "Go play with your brother, dad smells too much of cigarettes, if children smell too much they won’t grow tall."
"Then I’ll stay further away from dad." Honey was scared by her dad’s words, quickly covering her mouth and nose, and ran to her brother’s side.
Seth couldn’t help but ask, "Did you know mom went on a business trip?"
Ethan nodded, "Dad’s a bit tired, gonna take a shower first." He said then got up, intending to avoid his son’s questions.
He’s not in the mood to lie to a kid right now, who’s not a baby themselves?
How could Seth believe Ethan was fine? He dragged Honey into the room and took out his phone to video call Ruby Sullivan.
On the other side, Ruby was still in a daze, seeing her son’s name appear on the screen, she quickly answered, forced a smile and greeted, "Son."
Honey squeezed into the camera first, giggling and calling out "Mom."
"Hey, sweetheart." Ruby kissed the camera.
Seth said seriously, "Mom, did you know dad came back early?"
"I know, dad told me." Ruby said calmly, "Mom said she was going on a business trip, he wasn’t at ease so he came back early."
"But I feel dad has something on his mind, he came back and smoked all night, his complexion is bad too."
Smoking all night, of course, his complexion wouldn’t look good, Ruby silently cursed, continued to play along, "Dad might have some troubles at work, later I’ll call him and ask. He might be really tired now, so you take care of your sister and try not to disturb dad, let him rest well, alright?"
"Yeah, after breakfast, I’ll urge him to go sleep." Seth said with a sense of responsibility.
"Okay, thank you, son!"
"Mom, mom, I’ll help too." Honey quickly patted her chest, promising.
"Alright, thank you too, daughter." Ruby laughed so hard her eyes curved seeing Honey’s silly face.
"Then mom, you sleep some more, you look like you haven’t woken up yet. Bye, mom."
"Goodbye mom!" Honey waved vigorously at her.
"Bye Honey, Seth." Ruby sent another kiss and then hung up the call.
She thought about Ethan’s reluctant appearance last night, her heart ached for a moment.
"Ruby Sullivan, you should be happy, at least it proves he... really loves you." She chuckled and muttered, finding herself unable to go back to sleep, she got up, tidied up, and went out to buy groceries.
Last night they didn’t sleep very late, but for the show, Sasha Shaw had been exhausting herself daily, finally having time to rest, she’d definitely catch up on sleep.
The two little ones got mom’s instructions, after breakfast, seeing the smoke in the room hadn’t dispersed, they pulled Ethan into Seth’s room, sitting on either side watching him, urging him to rest immediately.
"Dad, mom said you need to rest well." Honey said earnestly.
Seth was more considerate, "Mom said after you’ve rested well, she’ll talk to you about work. Dad, don’t worry alone."
Ethan sighed, "With you watching me, I can’t sleep."
"Then we’ll head out." Seth called his sister over, holding her hand, and together they left, closing the door behind them.
Afterward, they deliberately took their toys to the study, afraid they’d accidentally make noise and disturb dad’s sleep.
But Ethan, lying on his son’s bed, had no desire to sleep. His head was numb, not thinking about anything, not wanting to think about anything, he felt he should probably get up now and go to the company to call those high-ranking officials for a meeting. Work is the best anesthetic and his only means to relieve stress.
As for that woman... she can think whatever she wants, that’s right, let her!
After sitting up, Ethan didn’t move.
He thought about the words of the two little ones just now, Seth is a very sensitive child, if he insisted on going to the company now, it would probably make them particularly worried, and getting employees to work on a Sunday would likely get him cursed, right?
He sighed and lay back on the bed.
Ruby Sullivan, what do you want from me?
In the supermarket, Ruby was choosing beef when she sneezed, thinking she might’ve caught a cold from the breeze last night, hurriedly took out a tissue to wipe her nose and felt like someone was watching her. She tilted her head, and not far away, the person watching her stood at the craft beer shelf with a heavy expression.
Ruby threw the used tissue into her shopping cart, walked over in a few steps, and slapped him, "Idiot!"
