Chapter 350: Chapter 350: Skylar Aldrin’s Internship

Skylar Aldrin lived quite far from Springdew Road, and Gwen Yates waited over thirty minutes for him to arrive.

Gwen was already impatient from waiting, but when she saw him, she managed to force a smile, "Why are you so late?"

The cafe was very close to the school, so she felt Skylar taking so long to arrive was deliberate.

"What do you want to say?" Skylar looked at her coldly, his heart feeling like it was being ground repeatedly with a blunt knife.

In his eyes, the one month they spent together was a memory tinted with filters, each frame reminiscent of the best scenes in a romantic drama. But once the beautification was turned off, reality was so unbearable. Although he had accepted this fact, he couldn’t control the discomfort within him.

Gwen bit her lower lip with a pretense of pity, then lifted her head, making an effort to perk up, asking with a light-hearted tone, "What do you want to drink? I strongly recommend the hazelnut latte here, it’s particularly delicious."

"I don’t want to waste time." Skylar stared into her eyes, trying to discern if she was acting, but he couldn’t see through her.

"I want to drink." Gwen ignored him, called the waiter, and ordered two hazelnut lattes. Before the coffee was served, she continued to stare at him.

She smiled, "I don’t know how many more times I’ll see you after today, so I definitely need to take a good look at you today and memorize your appearance." As she spoke, her eyes suddenly moistened, and a large teardrop fell out unexpectedly.

Skylar felt a sudden panic at heart. Though he said nothing, it was evident that he was somewhat moved.

"Look at me... really..." Gwen Yates fumbled nervously for a tissue, yet her tears continued to flow more fiercely at this moment.

"What’s wrong?" Skylar couldn’t hold back anymore.

Gwen shook her head.

At this point, the coffee was served, and she held the warm cup in her hands, gradually calming down.

"I was forced into being with Caleb Ford." She took a deep breath, kept her eyes on the cup of coffee in hand, "The Yates Family’s situation is very complicated. Uncles and relatives have been eyeing my father’s position. After they heard about my issues, they’ve caused trouble as well. If I don’t pull in investment for the family quickly, my father’s power will be undermined. At that time, he’ll have to wait to be forced into giving up his shares, handing over the company he worked hard to build."

"I couldn’t stand by and watch my father’s career get destroyed because of me, so I deliberately distanced myself from you because I felt guilty towards you." She choked up for a second time, steadied herself, and managed not to let the tears fall. "I know that I’m already tainted and even less worthy of you, so I hadn’t hoped for your forgiveness. But last night when I saw you, it truly hurt so much, I had to leave quickly to avoid giving myself away."

She finished speaking and lifted a face filled with affectionate tenderness, smiling yet constantly crying, "Skylar, if only I hadn’t fallen for you..."

Skylar was left stunned, and although he had imagined this as the truth, he was still inclined to believe Ethan Sterling’s analysis. Until now, hearing all her grievances being voiced, he felt himself to be a jerk.

Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan may have had their biases against her due to previous events, but the one who truly understood Gwen and was with her was him. He shouldn’t have doubted her, he should have listened and waited for her explanation.

Though she was in the wrong... she essentially had no choice; if it were him in her place, he would surely have no option but to sell himself out!

"I wish you happiness." Gwen finished speaking and stood up to leave, but as she passed Skylar, he grabbed her.

Skylar stood up, said nothing, he simply hugged her gently.

Gwen quickly wrapped her arms around his waist, crying uncontrollably in his embrace.

On Monday, Skylar Aldrin excitedly went to report to The Sterling Group.

He was in his junior year, and although a student with a sports specialty, his training results were average. He did not want to become an athlete nor a coach in the future, so he presented some gifts to the instructor and managed to get an internship application form. After getting the school’s approval and stamp, he could skip classes except for exams.

When he arrived, Ethan Sterling happened to be heading into a meeting, and he took Skylar along with him.

As a result, Skylar Aldrin fell asleep twenty minutes into the meeting. Seated at the sidelines, his falling asleep wasn’t supposed to be a major disruption, but when he began snoring loudly, it startled Snow, the secretary taking notes nearby. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

As the general manager of the subsidiary reporting, they were interrupted and looked over. Snow quickly called him awake in a low voice.

Skylar, waking up grumpy, frowned disdainfully, "What?" Only then did he realize something was amiss, scanned around, apologized with a smile, and quickly shrunk his head down.

Ethan Sterling calmly declared, "Continue."

The general manager then resumed the report.

Back in the office, Skylar apologized immediately, "Brother, I didn’t do it on purpose, it’s just that meetings are somewhat like classes, and I really couldn’t understand, not realizing when I just fell asleep."

Ethan cut off his nonsense, "If you make more than three mistakes in a month, you’ll be booted immediately. Today was the first one, also, address me as Mr. Sterling while at the company. Now go find Snow, she’ll arrange work for you."

"Yes, Mr. Sterling." Skylar exhaled deeply, relieved as long as he wasn’t immediately kicked out.

Snow always spoke with a smile, seeming very approachable. Before arranging work, she first inquired about his situation.

"Since you haven’t done anything before, let’s start by learning to record Mr. Sterling’s schedule."

"Okay, I’ll definitely study hard."

Snow was satisfied with his attitude, taking note of his attire, and couldn’t help but ask, "Do you have formal attire? Appearance is very important when you’re around Mr. Sterling."

Skylar was dressed in his usual clothes, jeans and an oversized T-shirt.

He shook his head, "I’ll buy some over the weekend."

Snow wasn’t aware of his background, although she guessed he wasn’t from a typical family, hearing he didn’t have formal attire, she decided not to push things too far, "Forget it, just wear this for now, since you’re in the internship period, you can wait until you become permanent before buying formal attire."

Good suits cost at least a few thousand, and wearing something too shabby wouldn’t look good either, not wearing one was better. Snow meant to save him some money.

"Okay, I’ll work hard to try becoming permanent soon." Skylar expressed with full confidence.

In the evening, Ruby Sullivan and Ethan Sterling went home together, unable to resist asking about Skylar’s performance at the company.

Ethan knew she felt guilty inside, so he skipped the part about him snoring in the meeting earlier that day, "Not bad."

Ruby was overjoyed, "Wow, getting a ’not bad’ from Mr. Sterling implies it should be very good, right? I guess I wasn’t wrong about that kid." She leaned against Ethan, instantly relieved, playfully fidgeting with his fingers.

"Hmm." Ethan agreed with her, thinking to himself, all just to ease your mind, while it bore no real relation to the kid’s performance.
