Chapter 349: Chapter 349: Seeing Yourself

Skylar Aldrin has been lingering around the Sterling Family all afternoon and shows no intention of leaving, sitting cross-legged on the carpet below the sofa, staring blankly out the window, looking like he has some mental issues.

Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan, once they’ve calmed their child, see him meditating in their living room and exchange puzzled glances. Ethan Sterling makes a gesture as if to shoo him away, but Ruby Sullivan holds his arm and shakes her head, walking over slowly instead.

Ethan Sterling frowns, finding the kid increasingly irritating.

It’s the weekend; even if he didn’t take his wife out, he’d prefer to relax at home instead of wasting time on this silly kid.

Ruby Sullivan sits down on the sofa, "Are you here to contemplate life in my house?"

Skylar Aldrin snaps his head around at the sound, "Sorry, I didn’t hear you come over." He stands up, glancing at Ethan Sterling sitting slightly farther away, and gives a somewhat forced grin, whispering ingratiatingly, "Sister-in-law, could you put in a good word for me with Big Brother?"

Ruby Sullivan looks at Ethan Sterling. Why would she need to say anything good when he isn’t even giving a menacing look?

Skylar Aldrin cautiously continues, "Could I work at Big Brother’s company? I want to go into business."

"No." Ethan Sterling refuses bluntly.

Skylar Aldrin sighs, "I knew it..."

Ruby Sullivan sees him acting like he’s destined to be a loser and can’t help but laugh, "Don’t just act on impulse without thinking, considering your situation, joining the army might have better prospects, what business."

"I don’t want to be a soldier. I want to be rich, to become like Big Brother."

"You won’t make it." Ethan Sterling continues to discourage him.

Skylar Aldrin feels dejected, "Big Brother, please let me work at your company. I will definitely work hard and learn diligently."

"The Sterling Group has high standards, and we don’t hire fools."

Skylar Aldrin’s face falls. He doesn’t dare to retort verbally but is indignant inside. You’re the fool, your entire family’s a bunch of fools. After this grumbling, he feels bad about it, considering Honey’s cuteness, Seth’s knowledge, and his sister-in-law’s kindness. It’s too mean to demean the whole family. He ruffles his short hair in frustration.

Ruby Sullivan sits beside Ethan Sterling, "Don’t you still need an assistant?"

"That position is reserved for you, and no one else but you is suitable." Ethan Sterling states firmly, leaving no room for negotiation.

Ruby Sullivan isn’t trying to help Skylar Aldrin out of pity, but because, like last night, he reminds her more and more of her past self — living a messy life, wanting revenge but powerless, not knowing any special skills except eating.

Had it not been for Dr. L giving her a hand, she might never have ended up with Ethan Sterling, never had the chance to clear up misunderstandings. She might have spent her life in a slump, following her daughter’s end.

The worst-case script had appeared more than once in her mind.

She is a redeemed person, although L had his motives, she cannot help but feel grateful.

"If you don’t help him, I’ll take him at Nirvana to help Howard, who always needs an assistant."

Skylar Aldrin’s eyes suddenly sparkle, "Sister-in-law, are you serious?"

"No way!" Ethan Sterling is somewhat annoyed. Why does his wife always side with this silly kid?

Ruby Sullivan raises an eyebrow, "Then you choose." After speaking, she tugs at Ethan Sterling’s arm, acting coquettishly rare, even batting a few flirtatious glances, showing sincere effort.

Ethan Sterling sighs, "Let him join The Sterling Group."

He doesn’t even last thirty seconds before relenting.

He can’t withstand her coquettishness. Her slightly lowered eyelids and brief frown elicit an involuntary response, like if she said she wanted the sun, he’d try to get it for her, even knowing it could burn him to death.

"Oh my god, Brother, did I hear wrong?" Skylar Aldrin jumps up excitedly.

Ethan Sterling gives him an irritated look, "Report to my office on Monday. Now, leave my house immediately." Preferably never come back.

"Alright, I won’t bother you rest; Sister-in-law, thank you so much, I’m leaving, love you." This bumbling big guy raises both hands above his head, bending to one side, like a sunflower intoxicated by the sun.

"Take care on the road." Ruby Sullivan advises with a smile.

Ethan Sterling covers his forehead, ignoring this silly kid.

Skylar Aldrin chuckles twice and swiftly disappears from their sight.

Soon after, Owen Fulton can be heard at the entrance, "Hey, change back from those slippers."

"Ah, I was too excited and forgot." It’s Skylar Aldrin’s voice.

After hearing the door close, Ruby Sullivan looks apologetically at Ethan Sterling, "Perhaps it’s better to let him go to Nirvana. My company’s small, so even if he makes mistakes, it won’t be too disastrous... right?"

Ethan Sterling glances at her, pinches her cheek lightly and pulls it a bit, "Idiot." Nirvana being a small company makes it more susceptible to significant setbacks from a single mistake. He certainly can’t allow such a fool to stay by her side, not even as a bodyguard.

After leaving the Sterling Family, Skylar Aldrin calls his mom, saying he’ll have dinner at home and plans to tell them about working at The Sterling Group.

Unexpectedly, not long after getting in the taxi, he receives a message from Gwen Yates, wanting to meet.

His bright sunny face instantly turns cloudy, staring at the message for a long time before calling her, "What do you want to say?" He thought she made things clear enough last night.

Though reckless, he’s no fool. Honestly, last night, he wished he were a fool; if he were, at least he wouldn’t feel sad or humiliated.

He couldn’t sleep at the Sterling Family’s home, reflecting on his relationship with Gwen Yates. From the start, he was just a tool in her eyes.

Just as Ethan Sterling analyzed, if he had money, she’d keep extracting from him. Unfortunately, for now, he doesn’t offer enough value, so she promptly dumped him.

He thought girls’ first times were incredibly precious, that giving it to him signified at least a liking if not love. Unexpectedly, in her eyes, her body was merely bait to lure him.

Gwen Yates, hearing his cold tone, is quite annoyed, though managing to sound calm, "Let’s talk in person. I don’t think it’d be clear over the phone. I’ll be waiting for you at that café on Springdew Road, alright?" Her tone softens to a pleading whisper towards the end.

Skylar Aldrin, predictably, can’t refuse.

After hanging up, Gwen Yates exhales, feeling she’s accomplished what Rhonda Sullivan asked her.
