Chapter 341: Chapter 341: Dead Tranny

In the afternoon, Ruby Sullivan changed clothes with Ethan Sterling ahead of time. On the way, she was still hesitating about attending, but couldn’t think of a good excuse. Moreover, Ethan was right. At today’s gathering, she just needed to use her identity as Ethan’s wife to casually chat with relevant people, and she might bring great benefits to the company.

But she really wasn’t in the mood to think about these things. Since founding Nirvana, it was the first time she didn’t want to strive for the company’s benefits.

Ethan noticed her absent-mindedness and held her hand, saying, "Don’t worry."

After he coaxed her to sleep yesterday, he stayed awake until dawn, only dozing off a bit, with his mind full of Ruby’s reactions. He could see that she didn’t want to attend the banquet, which might be because she didn’t want to see Rhonda, or perhaps L—after all, they were once master and disciple, now competitors, which was inevitably awkward. Moreover, he guessed that L held considerable weight in Ruby’s heart.

This, he could understand.

When he had pushed her into an abyss, L had given her a way out. If you really looked at it, he owed L a favor himself.

But she was resisting him too, and this worried Ethan greatly. Since the failure of the proposal, this worry had lingered in his heart, fearing she might make some decision he couldn’t accept due to overthinking on her own.

Yet Ethan knew better than anyone, in this matter, all he could do was worry. Besides keeping her in his heart and trying to treat her well, there was nothing he could do.

Ethan tilted his head to look at her, pulling her hand to his lips for a kiss, "Your task tonight is just to show affection with me; don’t think about anything else."

Ruby knew he did all of this for her, feeling grateful in her heart, "Actually, I’ve long stopped caring what others think."

"I care."

Ruby laughed, leaning against his chest, conforming to his wishes, "Alright, I’ll listen to you." Every time he looked at her so resolutely, determined to treat her well regardless of everything, her heart felt like it was blooming with flowers, warmer than the spring sunshine. Yet this warmth was quickly replaced by a gloomy cloud; it seemed in a blink, she would see his disappointment and disdain. Perhaps there would also be guilt.

At that time, her existence would become a pain he’d avoid at all costs.

Ruby sighed, her mood growing heavier.

Ethan lowered his head to look at her, unsure of how to comfort her further, only hoping time would allow her to relax completely.

Suddenly, Ruby’s phone rang.

She sat up to find the phone and froze when she saw the name on the screen.

Ethan saw the name on the screen at a glance, then turned away pretending he saw nothing.

Ruby knew hanging up at this moment would only seem more suspicious, so she braced herself and pressed answer, "Dr. L."

"Oh, now you don’t even call me Master?"

Ruby frowned.

It was she who needed him, so she couldn’t blame him for taking advantage of the situation. But if possible, she truly didn’t want to see this man again. Even just seeing his name made her feel humiliated!

Before Ruby could speak, L chuckled casually, "Good, I don’t like you calling me Master all the time either. Are you going to show up tonight?"

"What do you want?"

"I just wanted to tell you, I haven’t officially signed with The Sullivan Group yet; I can back out anytime. If you ask me, I can make Rhonda very embarrassed."

Familiar words, familiar tone, Ruby clenched her teeth to stop herself from swearing at him. She realized she was trembling and quickly hung up the phone.

Ethan sensed her body’s abnormality and quickly turned around, but saw her face pale with a sheen of sweat on her forehead, very worried, "What happened?"

Ruby shook her head.

"Did L threaten you?"

Ruby pressed her lips, unsure of how to answer.

She was indeed threatened, but she wasn’t afraid of market suppression; she was afraid of something bigger.

Ethan hugged her shoulders, gently patting to comfort, "Don’t be afraid, I’m here. Didn’t I say today’s just about showing affection? The better our relationship is, the more infuriated that damn transvestite will get."

Ruby was stunned, "Damn transvestite?"

Ethan raised his eyebrow, "Look at L, he appears feminine. Calling it gentle is nice, but bluntly, it’s just transvestite, right?"

Just a moment ago worried and scared, Ruby was interrupted by him and burst into laughter, "L’s fans hand in hand could circle the globe, if you dared say that out loud you’d be drowned by spit from his female fans."

"Come on, let this young master treat their eye condition for free." Ethan boasted.

Ruby looked at his exaggerated expression, laughing uncontrollably, "Mr. Sterling, not pursuing a career in comedy is truly a loss to the industry."

Ethan beamed with delight, "It’s all thanks to the good guidance of my wife."

Old Black, the driver, felt incredibly proud internally, because in this world, besides the madam, probably only he could witness the boss’s humorous talent.

After Ruby laughed enough, her mood relaxed considerably. While getting off the car and walking home hand in hand, she tentatively asked, "If we were to separate, what kind of wife would you want then?"

Ethan turned his head to glare at her, "Only death can separate us." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Then pretend I’m dead."

"Then I’d follow you in death." Ethan pinched her nose, "Stop daydreaming; your brain is suited only for researching perfumes, not for fantasy."

Though his face appeared relaxed and natural, his heart sank heavily because of her words. He understood Ruby well—she wouldn’t ask such outlandish questions without reason. Asking meant she was secretly planning something.

He could guarantee her plan was something he absolutely didn’t want to know.

Ethan hoped her thoughts would forever remain just plans, or else he truly wouldn’t know what he might do.

The banquet was held at a high-end member-only hotel in Ariston, formerly owned by The Finn Family, but now under Aidan Sinclair’s name.

Tonight, Aidan Sinclair was naturally on the list of invitees, and when Ruby and Ethan arrived, he was chatting with L. For two people meant to be bitter enemies, their current congenial conversation was surprisingly agreeable.

L deliberately fixed his gaze on her, seemingly to remind her of what he mentioned in the phone call.

But now Aidan Sinclair was Ethan’s partner; how could he still collaborate with L?

Ruby took a deep breath, put on a smiling mask, and walked over with Ethan, greeting politely, "Master, long time no see."

"Not too long, we just met in Caelus, didn’t we?" L raised his champagne in a toast to her, "Long time no see with him, though."

Ethan sensed Ruby’s hand on his arm tense briefly, patted her hand for reassurance, and chuckled softly, "Honestly, I don’t really want to see you."
