Chapter 297: Chapter 297: Can’t Back Down

Ethan looked at the time, "I have a few more things to handle before I can get off work. Do you need to return to the company?"

"No need to return."

"Then wait for me for half an hour, we’ll leave together." Ethan said and started working on the documents on his desk.

"I’ll go and talk to Howard about what happened just now." Ruby said and left his office. Howard was chatting with the new assistant Peach, seemingly exchanging insights.

The two went up to the rooftop and found a place to sit down. Ruby told Howard about the bet agreement.

"Did I act impulsively?" Ruby saw Howard silent and her previously built-up confidence started to fade.

Howard shook his head, "I’m just calculating the gross profit. If you account for all this, it’s basically impossible to come up with compensation without losing money, because the costs of the packaging have not been included yet."

"Don’t worry about this, I have a new plan to reduce the earlier planned capacity to 20ML, but the price will be doubled, selling at 6999 a bottle."

Howard touched his chin and smiled faintly, "As a brand from a small local studio, I can only say, this pricing is very bold."

"Fortune favors the brave, the timid starve. Stick with me, and you’ll have meat to eat." Ruby raised her eyebrows, seeming quite confident.

Initially, she was unsure how much profit could be made, but after seeing the numbers Howard estimated, she was recharged.

She didn’t understand those complicated things, but she knew increasing the price and reducing the quantity could make more money.

"That’s right, we never doubted your capabilities. As L’s apprentice, if you put some effort into marketing, it might not end badly."

Howard was secretly planning plan B, not as optimistic as he appeared.

He kept quiet, not because he feared speaking the harsh truth or wanted to be a sycophant, but he felt this was their chance to fight hard. If they succeed, the future would be bright, if not, it’s just a matter of Mr. Sterling losing a villa, and Ruby can afford that loss.

After discussing things properly, Ruby immediately sent a message to Sasha Shaw and excitedly asked Howard to take her to a restaurant, wanting to go meet her best friend.

Halfway there, she remembered Ethan asked her to wait for him to go home together, and quickly sent him a message.

Ethan’s face darkened half, set down the phone, and continued working, refraining from venting at Howard, wondering how talking about something with him made his wife leave.

Gwen went home and picked out a plain dress, swapped for canvas shoes, and deliberately removed all her makeup. She looked at herself in the mirror for a long time to ensure nothing was wrong before heading out.

Going under the guise of visiting a sick person, she didn’t buy any expensive gifts, and fruit would be too heavy, so she bought a bouquet of flowers from a flower shop.

This was her first time in the military district compound, with armed guards at the entrance. After a call to the Aldrin Family, she was let in.

Soon, Gwen received a call from Skylar, who endlessly explained his family’s location, as if she couldn’t even read an address.

Though annoyed inwardly, Gwen said nothing and just obediently agreed.

Actually, Skylar was just hoping she’d reach home sooner. Plus, isn’t it often said that girls aren’t great at finding locations? He wasn’t able to go out to meet her and didn’t want her to roam the compound needlessly.

Little did he know, his thoughtfulness and care were seen as redundant ramblings in the eyes of the opposite party?

Before long, Gwen pressed the Aldrin Family’s doorbell, and Cole answered, "Gwen?"

"Yes."

"Please come in." He coldly said, like a lifeless robot, "Follow me." He led Gwen to the second floor, opened Skylar’s room with a key, "Go ahead."

"Thank you." Gwen paused, feeling the tone was odd, like she was visiting someone in jail.

Skylar pulled her into the room as soon as he saw her, shutting the door with a bang.

Before Gwen could react, she was held tightly, the flowers in her arm getting crushed.

Skylar had been psychologically preparing himself, worried that such forwardness might be unappreciated, but seeing her, all concerns vanished. He just wanted to hug her, clutch her tightly, tell her how much he misses her.

In Skylar’s mind, she liked him too. Though they skipped the confession phase, they certainly weren’t just friends.

Happily resting his head on her shoulder, he didn’t notice Gwen’s strained expression, as she was barely containing the urge to push him away.

"I’m really happy you came to see me." Skylar previously had girlfriends too, but it was purely out of curiosity, picking someone nice-looking then switching when bored.

He was actually quite handsome and tall, generous in spending, wasn’t difficult to find a girlfriend for a relationship.

But after seeing Gwen, he realized those earlier relationships weren’t true love. True affection isn’t urgently possessing, hence, he pursued her with restraint.

Now, with her right in front of him, all restraint broke down.

"Oh dear, the flowers got squashed by you." Gwen, feeling suffocated by his embrace, could only use this as an excuse to remind him.

"Oh, oh." Skylar responded quickly, releasing her, only then noticing the bouquet she held. Apart from sunflowers, he couldn’t recognize any flowers but thought they were all wonderfully pretty, though some had been misshapen by the previous hug.

Gwen awkwardly looked at the flowers in her hand, "See, they got ruined." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"No worries, even squashed, I like them. As long as they’re from you, I like them." He took the flowers, but realizing there’s no vase, placed them on the table, "I’ll put them in later."

"Was that man outside your servant?"

"Oh, no, families like ours don’t have servants, he’s my dad’s orderly, temporarily reassigned...to take care of me for a few days." He nearly slipped up, busy covering his nervousness with a silly smile after speaking.

"Oh, well, close enough. You should ask him to put the flowers in some water, I’m afraid they’ll wilt soon."

"No way, the flowers you gave me, I have to arrange them myself." Skylar said earnestly, and he truly meant it.

Seeing him act silly, Gwen didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, "Um...where are your parents? I didn’t see anyone in the living room, should I greet them?"

Skylar pulled her to sit on the bed, "They’ve gone out, won’t be back until evening. In my room, the bed is the only place to sit, hope you don’t mind?"

Gwen glanced at the chair by the desk and said nothing else, smiling and shaking her head, "Of course, I don’t mind."
