Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 286: So Many Fools
Before long, Mama Bennett came knocking again, her face twisted in confusion, saying, "Miss Ruby, that Gwen Yates is sitting right at our doorstep, refusing to leave no matter what we say."
Earlier, she had been pushing the stroller out to buy groceries and had finally pushed open the door after some effort. Stepping out, she saw Gwen sprawled out on the ground, presumably having been pushed over by the door as she sat there blocking the entrance.
Ruby Sullivan slowly sat up, "Let her sit."
"I’m afraid she might cause trouble." Mama Bennett was timid and had never encountered anything like this.
"Let her cause trouble then." Ruby Sullivan yawned after speaking, thought for a moment, and then said, "Tell her Ethan Sterling is on a business trip and won’t be back until next week."
Mama Bennett responded with an affirmative sound and turned to go.
Ruby Sullivan rolled her eyes. What was this young girl thinking? She felt the girl was quite inexperienced. Compared to Rhonda Sullivan, she was no threat at all. Back in the day, before coming back, she had done all kinds of investigation on Ethan Sterling. Did Gwen Yates really think this incident would let her make a grand entrance into their lives? Wasn’t that too idealistic?
Mama Bennett told the outside Gwen about what Ruby Sullivan had instructed, and sure enough, by the time she came back from buying groceries, Gwen had already left.
That evening, Ruby Sullivan sat at the bedside coaxing Honey to sleep. The little one suddenly lunged into her mother’s arms, blinking her big eyes with a pitiable look, "Mom, I was wrong."
Ruby Sullivan laughed at her daughter’s sudden display of affection, "Why didn’t Mom know about this?"
According to Mama Bennett, while Ruby had been having a drink alone in the room, Seth had dragged Honey into the room and talked to her for a long time. After that, Honey was sullen until she saw her mother come out of the room at dinnertime and finally cheered up.
So, the apology from her daughter was somewhat expected, but Ruby just wanted to hear if her daughter had wandered off track. She couldn’t blame herself for using the same tricks on her daughter because Honey seemed to find joy in causing trouble for her parents lately.
Honey snuggled in her mother’s arms, murmuring, "Honestly, I don’t quite understand, but I know I was wrong. I’ll listen to my brother from now on." She had already made a pinky promise with her brother and decided never to go back on it in this lifetime.
Alright, alright, these adult matters were indeed too complicated for her little darling. Ruby Sullivan was amused by her daughter’s "apology," "Sweetheart, you must remember, in this world, your mom, dad, and brother are the ones who love you the most. No matter what happens, our love for you won’t change because we are family."
"Family..." Honey mulled over her mother’s words, in a state of half understanding.
Ruby kissed her forehead, "Alright, sleep tight, nighty-night."
"Good night, Mom." Honey lay down but still felt a bit uneasy, "Mom isn’t mad anymore, right?"
"Rest assured, Mom hasn’t been mad for a long time." Ruby Sullivan left her daughter’s room, her smile tinged with a bit of bitterness.
Honey’s understanding of family and relatives was somewhat skewed; perhaps, deep down, she feared that this family would fall apart like before. Ruby knew that it was due to her impulsiveness when making decisions in the past, but she believed her daughter would gradually adjust.
Her daughter wouldn’t be bothered by such trifles, she comforted herself inwardly. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Gwen Yates hadn’t shown up again after leaving, and according to the lawyer, although the police had been investigating, fortunately, no one had come to the studio to trouble Ruby Sullivan, allowing her to throw herself into work fully, hoping the new perfume would succeed soon.
In a flash, it was Friday. After Claire and Tina finished work, Ruby Sullivan wanted to reorganize the recent experiment records when she suddenly heard the sound of shattering glass.
She looked up in shock, only to see a fierce-looking man at the company entrance, swinging a sledgehammer against the glass door. The tempered glass shattered into a dense web under the heavy blows.
After a moment of stunned shock, Ruby Sullivan immediately called security. Before she could finish the call, the man outside had already smashed his way through the glass door and strolled inside.
"Hey, this old lady is quite pretty." The man wielding the sledgehammer turned and joked to his team, whistled, then looked back at Ruby Sullivan, "Are you Ruby Sullivan?"
Ruby backed up until she hit the lab bench, trying to keep her composure as she stared at the five men in front of her, "What do you want?"
"Don’t be scared. I’m just here to mess up the place and vent some anger, not to hurt you," the man said, raising the hammer to swing at Ruby Sullivan.
The self-defense skills Ruby had learned were insufficient to give her the courage to face such a direct attack. Instinctively, she covered her ears and ducked down.
The next second, she heard a loud crash as the laptop beside her was deformed under the sledgehammer’s blow.
This noise seemed to signal the start of a general demolition, as the other men grabbed whatever they could and began indiscriminately smashing things. The studio, filled with glass items, rang with the continuous sounds of glass breaking.
The mixed aromas of essential oils clouded the air, making it suddenly stuffy.
Ruby Sullivan stared in shock as the place where her dream had begun got dismantled into ruins in minutes. Surprisingly, she felt no emotion.
At the door, the belated two security guards symbolically shouted "Stop," but seeing no one listen and afraid to intervene forcefully, they quickly called the police.
In such a small studio, it wouldn’t take ten minutes to destroy it thoroughly. How could they wait for the police to arrive? Neither Ruby Sullivan nor the two guards had the power to stop anyone, so they could only watch helplessly as the others strutted out after their vandalism.
The man with the sledgehammer, having walked a few steps away, suddenly turned back.
The two old, frail security guards hurriedly raised their batons but were visibly trembling.
"What are you gonna do?"
The man frowned, brushed the batons aside, and warned menacingly, "Step aside."
"You can’t do this!" The security guard tried to hold his ground, but before he could finish talking, the man grabbed him by the collar and tossed him aside.
Ruby Sullivan took a deep breath, staring coldly at him, "What do you want?"
The man smiled, "Just wanted to tell you, in this vast world, you’re not someone who can bully anyone randomly, got it?" As he spoke, he reached to touch Ruby Sullivan’s face, which she slapped away.
"Wow, you’re feisty. Let’s go, Auntie. If you were a few years younger, maybe I wouldn’t have had the heart to do this today." He chuckled and turned away a second time.
Ruby Sullivan bit her lower lip, barely restraining herself from grabbing the laptop and smashing it against the bastard’s head. Outnumbered, it would do no good to act rashly at this time.
Just then, a somewhat familiar-looking man suddenly appeared in the corridor.
He stopped in his tracks, staring at the situation in the studio, and then a murderous look surged onto his handsome face. He dropped the large bouquet of lisianthus he was holding, and as the man with the hammer passed by him, all that anger exploded.
In an instant, the hammer-wielding man only felt a tightening around his waist, and the next second, he was thrown to the ground, hammer and all.
