Chapter 257: Chapter 257: Honey’s Little Rebellion

Seth Sterling came out of his room and only then realized that Claire Bishop was staying for dinner. Although nothing showed on his face, once Mr. Bishop sat down next to him, he immediately started earnestly introducing the flavors of each dish, finally saying, "I like this Hakka-style eggplant the most. It goes especially well with rice."

"Then I’ll try this too." Claire looked at this chibi version of Mr. Sterling, feeling relieved from the displeasure stirred up by Honey, thinking that it would be great if this cute little one needed tutoring.

Ruby Sullivan was a bit dumbfounded as she listened. Was her son starting to show signs of flirting with girls? Seth’s face showed no expression, but it was obvious he was very nervous. Why else would he be so talkative?

Honey was not pleased with her brother’s behavior, glaring angrily at him. Didn’t he know she didn’t like this woman? 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Seth’s eyes were calm as he focused on eating without even lifting his head, seemingly unaware of his sister’s signals. But after swallowing his mouthful of rice, he reached out with his chopsticks to pick up a piece of curry chicken for Honey, "Your favorite, eat more."

Only then did Honey beam with satisfaction.

Ruby watched the two little ones sparring, feeling a mix of amusement and helplessness, and couldn’t help but glance at Mr. Sterling. Your kids, being such drama queens at such a young age, how will they turn out when they grow up?

Ethan Sterling smiled slightly, his face calm and collected. "Good genes," he said, "can’t help it."

Ruby thought about it and found it quite true, joining in his laughter.

After dinner, Ethan took the two kids to play with Legos, and Claire Bishop volunteered to have a chat with Ruby Sullivan, so they went to the study.

Claire got straight to the point, asking, "Why was Honey unhappy today? I think the more I know, the better I can teach her."

Ruby smiled, thinking to herself that even if she told her Honey liked handsome boys, it wouldn’t help because she couldn’t change her personality overnight! Since it wasn’t a problem that could be solved, she decided not to address it.

"Little girls sometimes get moody for no reason, and Honey, at this age, is just starting to have her own ideas. She might be going through a little rebellious phase."

"I see..." Claire was somewhat worried. Aren’t kids in their rebellious phase most adverse to learning? Why would the parents hire a tutor during this time? However, thinking of The Sterling Family’s generous pay, she restrained her urge to complain and could only smile, "I see, so what does she usually like?"

She likes looking at handsome boys. Ruby squinted and continued smiling, "Maybe she’s recently felt there’s a big gap between her and her brother, and she wants to catch up, so she’s eager to learn more. Did you not have much success today?"

Claire thought for a moment, realizing there was no hiding it, and confessed, "I tried to teach Honey to read through storytelling today, but she seemed completely disinterested."

"I’ll talk to her today, and I’ll get back to you tomorrow morning."

"Alright." Claire felt much more at ease seeing Ruby so agreeable. "Then I’ll head out for today, Mr. Sterling... Wenny, goodbye."

After sending Claire Bishop off, Ruby Sullivan sat on the sofa, starting to worry. She thought she had done enough to prepare her daughter mentally, but it seemed not. Could her daughter really be entering a rebellious phase?

Upon closer thought, although Honey and Seth were twins, the difference in their intelligence was quite significant. Clearly, Seth inherited Ethan’s high IQ, while Honey’s smarts were more like hers. Catching up to Seth would be quite a task, no matter what tutor they got.

Mama Bennett, seeing her sitting motionless on the sofa looking distressed, couldn’t help but be concerned, "Miss Ruby, what’s wrong?"

Ruby smiled wryly, "I just suddenly realized that my daughter being too much like me isn’t necessarily a good thing." She used to think her genes were quite alright.

Once Honey finished her nap and was fully awake, Ruby immediately began her talk with her daughter.

Honey listened and felt like Mom was just trying to persuade her not to dislike Mr. Bishop. Used to being the understanding good daughter, she felt a bit melancholy but didn’t want to make things hard for her mom, so she nodded obediently, promised to study well with Mr. Bishop tomorrow, and then went back to her room to play.

Watching her daughter’s back, Ruby still felt a bit worried, but she believed Honey just needed time to adapt to getting along with the new teacher. Once they’re familiar, they could become good friends. After all, she’s a pretty young girl, and she seems to be even better looking than Honey’s teacher at kindergarten.

The next day was the weekend, and Ethan didn’t have to go to work. Ruby originally planned to stay home and delve into that massive book, but Ethan wouldn’t hear of it. He insisted on taking her out on a date.

Considering they’d never had a proper date, Ruby was momentarily swayed. After Claire Bishop arrived at the house, the two of them left, reminding Mama Bennett to keep Mr. Bishop for dinner before going.

Ethan felt Ruby had been cooped up in the house too long, causing her to overthink, and believed that getting out to wander would surely open her mind.

Sitting in the car, Ruby felt a little nervous about the date. "Where... are we going?"

This question left Ethan at a loss.

Although he wanted to take her out, he had no clue about what to do on a date. After thinking for a while, he tentatively asked, "Do you play golf?"

Ruby shook her head.

"Tennis?"

"Squash?"

"Uh... where do you want to go?" Ethan had listed all the places he usually goes to unwind, but she liked none of them. Going to the gym probably wouldn’t be her favorite either.

Ruby’s enthusiasm cooled by Ethan’s succession of suggestions. She glared at him and complained, "Mr. Sterling, you seem to have no sincerity at all."

Ethan was embarrassed.

He was sincere, just inexperienced. Should he take her shopping, to a movie, then dinner? Those are things young people do, which might not be suitable for them.

"Forget it, let’s go with my plan." Seeing him looking so innocent, Ruby couldn’t bear to push him further, leaning forward to give the driver an address.

The place was quite unfamiliar to Ethan, but seeing Ruby so sure he’d understand when they got there, he curbed his curiosity.

Thirty minutes later, the driver parked the car on the roadside, and the two got out.

Familiar with the street, Ruby couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

Ethan looked at the bustling pedestrian street not far away and slightly raised an eyebrow, "Are you taking me there?"

"Of course, let’s go." Ruby gave a broad smile, grabbed Ethan’s arm, and ran over there.

This was a famous snack street near Ruby’s alma mater, where almost all of Ariston’s specialty snacks could be found. From afar, the aroma of barbecued and fried foods wafted over.

However, for Ethan, such a place seemed a bit... unsanitary.

Ethan’s entire demeanor spelled rejection and disdain, which thrilled Ruby and she gleefully dragged him to stand at a food stall, boldly saying, "Boss, ten skewers of stinky tofu!"

Standing in the midst of the cooking fumes, Ethan’s face turned green.
