Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 247: You’re Welcome
Ethan Sterling gently wiped her back with a warm towel, glancing at the bandage wrapped around her waist, "Does it still hurt?"
"I might have hurried a bit too much in the hospital; it’s a little painful," Ruby Sullivan said truthfully, not considering it a big deal.
"Why didn’t you mention it then? Do you want to go to the hospital now?" Ethan Sterling furrowed his brows, his tone unconsciously growing heavier.
"It’s nothing, not that serious."
"Get dressed." Ethan Sterling suddenly ordered.
Ruby Sullivan froze, realizing he wasn’t joking, turned to look at him, "Really, it’s fine. If it needed a hospital visit, the bandage would have bled long ago. Do you see any problem with the bandage?"
He immediately checked the bandage closely, and after confirming there was no bleeding, he suspiciously asked again, "Are you sure it’s nothing?"
Ruby Sullivan listened to the uncertainty in his voice and felt warm inside, "It’s really nothing. I’ve survived death so many times, I cherish this life I got back."
Ethan Sterling paused for a moment, suppressing the sudden rush of heartache, "That’s good."
He carefully finished wiping her back, rinsed the towel, and then helped her stand up to clean her neck meticulously, which was usually inconvenient for her.
Although Ruby Sullivan’s injury was on her lower back, she had to be careful when raising her hands or walking, as any careless movement could affect the wound, severely limiting the range of motion in her arms.
Holding the shirt tightly to her chest, Ruby Sullivan couldn’t help but glance at his face. She didn’t expect Ethan Sterling to be so meticulous in caring for someone, even after spending so much time by her bedside, this moment still surprised her.
This man can indeed be wonderful, as long as he wants to be.
However, when he doesn’t want to, he can effortlessly send you tumbling into an abyss.
After cleaning, Ethan Sterling admired her neck with a serious face, as if inspecting a student’s exam paper, then smiled faintly and leaned in for a sniff.
Startled, Ruby Sullivan shrank her neck, "What are you doing?"
He laughed, "Though it’s not the sweet scent you used to have, it certainly doesn’t stink now."
Ruby Sullivan remembered what she had asked when he entered, her face flushed, and she muttered with lowered eyelids, "Yeah, this time really troubled Mr. Sterling."
Ethan Sterling cleaned the towel, "It’s my honor to serve Ms. Sullivan."
Ruby Sullivan blushed more, mentally scolding herself for picking a fight with him.
Ethan Sterling looked at her seriously and asked again, "Sure you don’t want me to help clean other parts?"
"No, you can leave. I’m going to get dressed, feeling a bit cold," Ruby Sullivan held the clothes tighter.
Although the heater was set high, after wiping her back, she still felt cold, added with her weakness, making her unable to handle even the slightest chill.
Ethan Sterling raised his hand to take down the hanging towel and draped it over her, "I’ll call Mama Bennett to help you clean other areas, she should be done washing the dishes." After speaking, he put down the towel and left.
Ruby Sullivan mentally grumbled, washing dishes or not is just a matter of your words, right? She didn’t believe Mama Bennett wasn’t coming just because she couldn’t leave the dishes.
Before long, Mama Bennett came in, smiling as she started to clean Ruby. Her strength was noticeably greater; although it didn’t hurt, it was swift. Ruby Sullivan checked herself; it was quite clean, but why didn’t it feel as comfortable as when Ethan cleaned?
Thinking of this, Ruby Sullivan blushed, quickly pulling her runaway thoughts back and swiftly putting on her clothes.
*
Recently, Ruby Sullivan had been sleeping facedown, and Ethan Sterling would massage her head every day to help her fall asleep more easily; today was no exception.
However, both had matters on their minds, making the atmosphere somewhat heavy.
Ethan Sterling spoke first, "The lawyer has received a notice from the court, if you change your mind now, tomorrow’s trial could proceed."
Earlier, they anticipated potential traps before entering the room, thus recording the entire conversation. With Lawyer Bennett willing to help, not only would the trial not be canceled, but they could counter-sue Brandon Sullivan for threats and blackmail.
But that would mean Ruby Sullivan would have to take Brandon Sullivan to court, which wasn’t an easy decision.
Ruby Sullivan closed her eyes without responding for a long time.
Her mind was filled with memories of her father from childhood to adulthood; although he was very successful in his career, he never neglected any daughter’s growth, providing more care and love than many other fathers despite not spending much time with them.
She understood her father’s guilt towards Rhonda and didn’t wish to deny the love he had for her.
She sighed, "Aren’t we taking Honey to the hospital for a follow-up tomorrow morning?"
"Yes," Ethan Sterling responded, recognizing her decision, and turned to send a message to the waiting lawyer.
Ruby Sullivan turned sideways, asking uneasily, "Does this make me despicable to you?"
"Not at all. On the contrary, I think your decision is brave. Who dares to keep a ticking bomb nearby? You dare, proving you’re not afraid of them."
Ruby Sullivan frowned slightly, feeling cornered by his logic, "I didn’t study much, don’t fool me."
Ethan Sterling raised his eyebrows and smiled without speaking.
"I can’t disregard the years of familial bonds but also don’t want to feel aggrieved. This time, The Sullivan Family and I are even, and their matters will have nothing to do with me. Well, not quite true, because I plan to take down The Sullivan Group in the future." Ruby Sullivan suddenly found resolve, seemingly making a very firm decision.
"Oh?" Ethan Sterling was amused by her determined tone, replying with meaning.
Ruby Sullivan felt embarrassed by his response. Big talk was easy, but figuring out how to execute it was entirely elusive.
"Once I recover, how about I work at The Sterling Group?" Despite the consultative tone, she tried to act as if it were a given, not wanting Ethan Sterling to sense any insecurity.
She wasn’t feeling insecure about her capability, just thinking it was too casual to come and go without considering herself an outsider.
Ethan Sterling tilted his head to look at her face, catching the flicker in her eyes and almost fully guessing her thoughts, "Would love that."
Ruby Sullivan smiled, feeling much more settled.
Ethan Sterling couldn’t help but kiss her ear tip, "You can depend on me; I’m reliable now."
Ruby Sullivan replied with an "Mm," feeling truly sweet inside. What could be more comforting than leaning on someone during times of confusion and helplessness?
"Thank you." She didn’t open her eyes, murmuring softly, although it sounded cheap, it carried all her sincerity.
Ethan Sterling ruffled her hair, "You’re welcome."
